We were invited to a family wedding at Clearwell Castle on the 17/05/2025. The wedding was very enjoyable on the Saturday so we thought it best to stay over and booked a room at the Clearwell Castle. Are room was called the Russel suite!! It should have been called the Russel Cupboard. No room to get by the bed. No phone, No tv. Only 2 tea bags and 2 coffee sachets. then you had to put the kettle on the floor to be near the electric plug. Very expensive for a very basic room. It would have been a lot cheaper to have booked a taxi back home later on Saturday Night. So please check before you BOOK A ROOM.

I understand T&C’s are there for a reason, but when someone gives substantial notice to cancel an event due to circumstances out of their control, and the venue will easily re book the day, considering the amount of money lost by the individual, it would have been nice for the venue to show some sympathy given the circumstances and offered some sort of compensation or partial refund.

If i could give a zero rating I would. This company has no sympathy or empathy. An unfortunate event meant that my daughter had to cancel her wedding 11 months before the event after putting down a substantial amount of money as a deposit. Repeated attempts to persuade Clearwell castle to give a refund, was met with the usual "please read our T&C's" Even though 11 months notice has been given, there was not the slightest but of support or sympathy. Clearwell castle were able to profit twice out of my daughters situation by 1. Keeping the deposit and 2. Re selling her wedding day slot.
Moral of this story. Look elsewhere!!

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Like the previous review, if you have to cancel the wedding (even if it’s with ample time and nearly a year in advance) they won’t refund you a penny. The customer service is also cold afterwards and they don’t even do a kind gesture of goodwill and refund even a small amount. When you have saved up money with your hard work and for it to be gone due to reasons out of your control, I would definitely not recommend this venue.

Fabulous venue. Food amazing. Rooms lovely, we had the best time at my Daughters wedding. Hard working staff. Perfect!

Please read before you think to book your special day with this scam of a venue,
This place does not deserve to be in business and I really hope they go under.

I booked my wedding with them I’m 2020 Paying my £750 deposit followed by £5000 a few months later. Wedding was moved due to covid and rebooked for 2023. The company then asked £5750 to secure the date. I asked in October 2021 to cancel the wedding which they were more than happy to do but would not refund a penny. So I’ve continued to keep the date. Since then me and my partner split up. I’ve been fighting to try and get some money back and all they after is it’s all non refundable and non transferable. I’ve been on with solicitors and in there terms and conditions the cancellation policy stated if wedding cancelled you have to pay 85% of the wedding. Please note I’ve paid £11,500 which is the Minimum wedding package in full so legally entitled to 25% of my money back. Yet again all I get is it’s non refundable, non transferable. So this company now have £11,500 of my money and will resell the date next year for the same price.

I’ve asked about a good will gesture all I get in response is that the effect of covid bla bla bla. We are all struggling and these people just scamming your money.

Even when trying to cancel in 2021 with over a year and half to resell the date would not give a penny back.

The terms and conditions aren’t worth the paper it’s written on!

The venue is a really nice place but the staff are very rude. Happy to take your money but the minute there is as issue it’s like talking to robots you get the same message over and over.

I have also seen I’m not the only person that this has happened to I know of people that have paid some money and they just give the same petty reasons over and over.

There is some wonderful venues around the Cotswolds and Gloucestershire area please look else where. I really hope they don’t do this to anyone else. It’s heartbreaking and stressful to loose £11,500. All the hard work and effort gone into that money and it’s been taken and gone. I hope company goes into debt and bankrupt and all the staff feel ashamed and have sleepless nights like I have over the last few months. AWFUL SERVICE.

Me and my partner booked this place for our wedding. All seamed lovely we then attended a dinner date offered by the venue after we booked so we could get a taste of there menu of course this was at a cost of almost £100 but we thought it’s a night out so why not. When we attended the food was not good at all the beef was dry and had a pepper crust on that was not advised on the menu and the flavour of that tainted the rest of the food. The roast potatoes that was served on the day was chewy and tasted frozen.
After complaining about the meal we was offered a wedding tasting session free of charge to try our exact wedding menu and have a chat to chef about the menu and the food. We thought that was a nice offer so agreed. When we had our second meal the roast potatoes was missing and the pork was bone dry. When speaking to the chef he said he knew the pork was dry due to being busy with a wedding that was on at the same time but knowing the food was not up to standards he served it anyway.
After that we had no confidence in the food at all and when your going to be paying £135 per person for food it needs to be good. We said that due to the 2 poor attempts at the food we felt they could not offer the high standards they advertised so requested to cancel our wedding giving the reasons and also almost a year and a half’s notice and we requested a refund of the money we had paid for the wedding. They offered us a third attempt to get it right but we refused this as did not want to waste anymore or our time as we have a young family and the venue was not local to us it was difficult to arrange sitters for the kids so we said no we want to cancel and want a refund. They point blank refused to refund any money paid saying it’s in there t&x’s I explained that they can not provide a service there offering so that voids any t&c but they refused again. I then asked to see a signed copy of the contract with the t&c’s as I no there was not one but they said because I paid then that’s me accepting them so basically a verbal contract. I decided to leave a negative review on there Facebook page about my experience and I received a email stating if I continue to leave negative reviews than they would take legal action against me so now threatening me for leaving a honest review. Please people save yourself a lot of stress disappointment and money and do not book this place
