I applied for a Visa in October 2024

I applied for a Visa in October 2024. The first thing you have to do is set up an account. The application form has to be filled in on line, I started using Safari on my MacBook but like many foreign visa applications it works much better using google chrome. The form took me about 4 hours to complete and double check. The most difficult parts were uploading a picture, there are very exacting requirements and also ensuring I had all the correct information on provinces being visited. Once complete you print it. There is a separate top sheet you have to sign and then the many body of the application which is difficult to read. You need to sign it in several places.
I travelled to the London Visa office, easy to reach via Banks underground station. The office opened at 9am , I was there at 8.30 but about 25 people ahead of me. The doors opened just before 9am. We were herded in and put in a queue where we filed pass one official who checked we had our passport and we had signed the form in the correct places, even he missed one signature. You then get a ticket and a screen puts up your ticket number and tells you which counter to go to. An administrator goes through your form very efficiently and asks a few questions. They took my passport, checked flight details and returned them, studied my invite letter and kept a copy. They also wanted a payment form in case a refund was needed, luckily I had found that on the website and filled it in before going to London. They also wanted and kept a colour passport photo even though I had uploaded my picture successfully onto the application form. The next bit was a shock, as I don't live in London, over 3 hours by train I had brought a pre paid envelope with next day delivery and expected to have my passport returned within a week to 10 days as the process of getting a visa is only a few days. However, I was told the post office collect from the visa office 3 times a week but it could be 2 - 3 weeks until your passport is returned to you even with Special next day delivery. The two to three days turn around is only if you go back and collect the passport with the visa in it. Although I thought I had read all the information I did not know that it could take so long which is to do with Royal Mail not the visa office apparently.I had three weeks before travelling, but only just, so I was in a dilemma, should I come back and collect. I decided to trust the administrator who said I had time to get it back. She was right , I went to the visa office on Monday and my passport came back to me the next Saturday having taken only five day, what a relief.
Before I left the visa office I was given a bill and went to the payment department which is downstairs. The whole process took less that 40 minutes so I was out just after 9.30. It is quite pressured and you absolutely need to have all your paperwork in order as you enter the building. On Thursday I was able to go into my account( I couldn't get to my application on safari only google chrome )and see my passport had been through the process and posted, so was then able to track it (Having taken a photo of the envelope) via Royal Mail and was delighted it arrived in good time. The visa office did an efficient job.

Be prepared for queues - try later in the week

This is a review of the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre which handles visa applications for the Chinese Embassy. I have been applying for visas for over 10 years and now the centre well! My last visit was July 2023 and that was horrendous, 3 hours queuing under an appointment system. This time, there was no appointment system. Simply turn up and join the queue. Naturally, I was concerned! I arrived at about 1000 on a Monday, was given a ticket and was not seen until 70 minutes later, being 38th in the queue. I was processed within 10 minutes then had to go downstairs to pay. This time I was 13th in the queue and waited about 25 minutes. I returned on the Thursday to collect my passport, 3 days later, and was seen within 1 minute. The queue to submit applications was much shorter than on Monday so it is possibly better to choose a day later in the week to avoid long queues. It would be good if they displayed on their website when it is usually quiet.

The service as always is polite. Be very careful to read the visa documentation requirements carefully. They vary according to the type of visa. Printers are available if you have forgotten some documentation. Common problems are not having a photocopy of your passport, or previous visa, if applicable. Also, depending on your visa type, you might have to show printed copies of your flight tickets and hotel booking. Don't forget the invitation letter if needed! I was on a F visa.

Improve your system Chinese embassy

I was in Chinese embassy to process an online visa application. The passport number on the application is just lacking the last letter B, but i bring the actual passport. The incharge said that I need to repeat the online application and put the lmissing last lettervthere. I said, why can't I he just write the last letter there and I can just write signature on it. He said I need to do it online all over again.
I came from Saikung, and travelled for 1.5 hours going to the place , plus it took me some time to find the place with very hot temperature. I also spend a 60 dollar travelling expenses plus I need to take lunch in the city. I need to go back again to the place just because of a single letter. Wake up guys! Improve your system. Why cantbyou be like the immigration department in Wanchai. They are very high tec and very efficient. I processed my working visa there purely online. Please improve your system!

Visa nightmare

2pm appointment and a que of 100+ people. We thought we had done everything we needed but they then said we needed proof that are names were on the flights booked for our 2 week holiday having already submitted an invitation letter from the Chinese travel company saying where we we staying every day of our holiday. Do they actually want anyone to go on holiday to China. Too much hassle for a simple holiday - far more places in the world to go on holiday to. And the visa was £170 each!!!

You can't get any help

You can't get any help

Tried calling their number which does not work at all. Also ever since i applied for a chinese visa, i have been receiving countless of scam calls from different numbers but with the same message saying i have a document to collect. Tried contacting the embassy but no response. May also add that i'm not the only getting these scam calls. I know many others who have been getting harassed by these callers since applying for a chinese visa. The chinese embassy needs to look into the security setting on their website as im pretty sure someones hacked into it and is just there freely obtaining personal data. Chinese embassy is not very helpful, they don't seem care the slightest.
