Good and Bad!

Great Holiday on West Coast of Ireland till storm Amy hit. Rest of holiday cancelled with just the driver to manage the situation. We arrived home a day late due to the cancellation of ferries from Ireland to Wales. Woods did look after us and keep us safe but guess what, absolutely no communication since other than £25 refund for unused entry fees.

Four River Cruise

We booked this cruise as a last minute break but things went wrong from the onset, our pick-up taxi was on time but from then on in other pick-up taxis either were late or didn't show, hence arriving at Dover two hours behind schedule, by this time we had been sat on the coach for seven hours with no break. There was a further eighty minute delay at Dover to clear passport control. Because of these accumulated delays we arrived at our overnight accommodation at half past ten instead of eight o'clock. A meal was laid on at this point but not for us at half past ten at night. Our driver was brilliant and did all he could to make up time but also he had to take his scheduled break by law.

Two pre-paid excursions we missed, one was cancelled and the other the ship sailed before the allotted time given so we were stranded on the ship. I have received refunds for both.

I contacted Woods Travel on our return and the answer was that it was 'circumstances beyond our control' end of conversation. I asked for compensation as my wife suffered from swollen ankles from lack of exercise due to the long coach trip on the outward bound journey, which took two weeks to return to normal. I believe there was a failure of Duty of Care to the customer and irrespective of who was to blame we should have received some compensation for the failures. I booked this trip with Woods Travel and they should take responsibility for any short comings. As I said to our guide and Dan the driver, this will be our first and last experience with Woods.

Just on the positive side the actual cruise was excellent, particularly the River Rhine, very scenic and very relaxing.

Call the Midwife Tour

Unfortunately we were very disappointed with this trip, altogether. Within days of receiving the brochure we chose a choice of 6 - we were unable to get one, we were informed that the priority list had first choice, last resort we were offered this one! Brochure didn't warn us of so much walking involved, after the first day a person didn't go out for 3 days! A fair few struggled with the amount of walking.
I am sorry to have to say that we were also disappointed with the driver, after having in the past very good ones, won't go into detail, but would say we were flabbergasted by one comment made.

Had an absolute nightmare with Woods…

Had an absolute nightmare with Woods Travel. And will certainly not book with them or recommend them to anyone.
My Mum unfortunately was unable to go on a holiday that she booked with them, so we had to sadly cancel.
My mum had hurt herself, and was under the doctor for investigation, we notified Woods Travel as soon as this had happened. They weren’t very helpful when I said that Mum would have to take a walking frame with her. They said that this was not booked when we booked the holiday. I explained that Mum had now hurt herself and she was unable to walk unaided. They made out that this was an inconvenience because we were having to add something to the booking. I spoke to the hotel directly about Mum having a ground floor and a walk-in shower. They were very helpful and added this to her booking. When I mentioned this to Woods Travel, they weren’t very happy…. But I will guarantee if I’d requested with them they would’ve said the rooms were all allocated. I felt as if everything was a hassle when I spoke to them. They also informed me that the coach driver would not help Mum onto the coach or help her with her luggage. She was expected to do this herself with a walking frame.
We had to cancel the holiday this week, mum basically lost all her money £585… like I said no compassion. If anything .. they were making out that we were really inconveniencing them as short notice.. not that my poor mum was in severe pain, or how was she… With cancelling this
meant Mum’s friend would be travelling on her own. She is 85 and she was a bit concerned about going on her own. So Mum and I suggested that she found another friend that could go on this holiday. Woods Travel were not very helpful again. And we had to pay £50 as an admin fee to add this person’s name to the booking. We couldn’t ask the friend to pay this … so I paid this myself because I didn’t want to upset my mum .

This company has made a fortune out of my mum. I spoke to the managing director at the beginning of the week explaining Mum’s circumstances. She tried to persuade me it wasn’t a good idea Mum going on the holiday… hence that’s why we cancelled in the end, I didn’t want the coach company or the hotel to think that my Mum was a burden…. And also she never mentioned anything about an admin fee. I was only told that the following day when we actually cancelled the booking. So please think before you book with this company. If you’re unable to travel, they will just take your money… they don’t care about you!

My mum celebrated her 80th birthday last week… this holiday was to celebrate her birthday. This is the first holiday that mum plucked up the courage to go to since we lost my dad to cancer.

They didn’t send us any terms and conditions…. But they will stick to their terms and conditions…. So make sure you read them. Or book with another company that actually Care.

Hebridean Odyssey

On the 16th September 2024 my Wife and I set off on what Woods Travel Limited called "Hebridean Odyssey" on the 20th September we were due to catch a Ferry from North Uist over to the Isle of Harris, due to Foggy conditions all three ferry crossings were cancelled, Woods found us alternative accommodation at the Benbecula House Hotel, 21st September we had a very early start,on the Coach by 5am in order to catch the 7am ferry but due to Foggy conditions all three ferry crossings were cancelled again, instead of booking us back in to the Benbecula House Hotel ( there was a note left on the table where we were asked to leave our room keys, saying if the Ferry is cancelled see you later) Woods decided to book us on a larger Ferry back to the Isle of Skye (so re tracing our steps) Woods had also booked us into the Gairloch Highland Lodge on the Scottish mainland, after leaving the Ferry we had a 4 hour none stop drive in the dark down what appeared to be country lanes with passing places finally arriving at the Gairloch Highland Lodge at approximately 10pm, after filling out forms for breakfast the following morning carrying our cases up the stairs we finally got into bed at 11:45 we had been awake for close to 20 hours. On our return home from the Holiday I sent a email to Woods Travel Limited, complaining about the choices that they had made on the 21st September, our Coach Driver was due to have had the 21st off for Legal reasons, he had had a longer day than the coach passengers most of whom were OAPs (I'm 76) , the reply I received from Woods Travel Limited was very detailed regarding all the phone calls they had made and pleading with Ferry companies etc adding that they had not done anything Illegal, I had stressed that in my opinion all our lives had been put at risk and that our Drivers licence was probably at risk, they also still owe me for the meals I paid for on the Ferry back to the Isle of Skye, I personally will never travel with Woods Travel Limited again, I don't trust their judgement when it comes to the SAFETY of their paying holiday makers at no time have said what a terrible ordeal that must have been (don't admit liability) Absolutely Disgusting.
