The national guide we had for Grand tour of China Addison sun made all the difference to our trip. Funny,informative and caring made all the difference on the long days. I highly recommend Wendy Wu China experience particularly if you have the guide I believe is number 1 Addison Sun.

this was our first guided holiday and we couldn't have asked for a better introduction. There was nothing that Addison didn't do/take care of - way more than could be reasonably expected, truly exceptional and a real credit to both Wendy Wu and China in general.

Our tour guide through the Grand Tour was Addison and we couldn't have asked for a better guide than Addison. He was friendly and approachable and nothing was too much trouble. Always smiling and patient and looked after everyone extremely well.

When some people were tired of the Chinese food, Addison offered to get us all Kentucky Fried Chicken and Chips! It was hoped that the robot at the hotel would deliver this food, but it wasn't possible and Addison personally delivered the food to everyone in the group (28 of us), with a smile on his face.

Addison's organisation of our itinerary was exemplary and we felt looked after and safe throughout the trip. The trip involved three bullet trains and three internal flights, which was quite stressful as the Chinese are very strict about security and items which cannot be taken in carry on luggage. Several people had their luggage inspected and items confiscated, together with the delays that this level of security entailed. Throughout it all, Addison was there for support and advice.

Everywhere you go, you need to show your passport as ID and Addison took care of this for us.

We had local guides show us the sights in each stop on our tour. All were informative with good English and made the tours enjoyable, even when many of the sightseeing stops were very busy with many tourists.

We didn't always get enough time at the stops, but with a packed itinerary, the time had to be managed. We wouldn't have been able to manage many of these stops without the guidance of the local guides and Addison.

We added on a couple of days in Hong Kong before our return to the UK. This included a trip by tram to Victoria Peak, going on the escalators, an evening cruise in Victoria harbour and visiting the century-old Man Mo Temple before enjoying a dim sum feast at the world-renowned Tim Ho Wan. Our local guide here was Ricky, who was also very good.

Having just returned from our 26 day Grand Tour of China we have nothing but positive things to say about our experience with Wendy Wu Tours! From our initial contact we felt assured we would be taking 'a trip of a lifetime' - we were certainly not disappointed! Addison has to be 'China's very best tour guide'. Being part of 'his family' we always felt in extremely safe hands and genuinely cared for - our entire group of 28 thought the absolute world of him and really appreciated the amount of hard work he put in (including behind the scenes) to make our visit so enjoyable and memorable - the beautiful video he produced for us all documenting our amazing holiday was simply 'the icing on the cake'. Addison is truly a credit to Wendy Wu Tours and we would certainly love to take another holiday with him as our guide - his genuine love and enthusiasm for his country and its people is infectious! The tour itself was 'full on' - there were early starts and long days but this all made complete sense when we somehow managed to avoid huge crowds at The Great Wall and arrived at the exact moment to see the pandas being fed (so much more of an emotional experience than we were expecting) all thanks to Addison and our local guides. Only now we have arrived home and settled back into daily life can we start to fully appreciate all we saw and experienced during such a relatively short space of time in China - it was a truly fabulous holiday with memories to last a lifetime!

25 day Grand Tour of China.

What an experience. Was very impressed with Wendy Wu as a tour company. Everything pre holiday, from the booking process to the visa application system was smooth and easy. The tour itself was very well organised and was exactly as described.

This type of tour is entirely dependant on the national guide you get, and we could not have got a better guide than Addison. from the first day he made us feel welcome in China, his passion for teaching and showing visitors his country was amazing. He could not have done more for the group. The level of organisation, time, effort and care that he puts into taking care of the group and ensuring you have the best experience of China was second to none.
The local or City guides were all great as well. very knowledgable and patient with great local insights.

Addison our main guide was excellent; professional, funny and managed the group with a smile on his face throughout. We became Addisons family ! The itinerary was amazing. We learned so much and got an insight into much of China’s history and customs…. Too many highlights to list.

Going to China was motivated by my love of history and from the Chinese dramas I had watched. It took me two years to save for it but it was worth every penny. As a mature single female touring in a group can present a number of issues but our wonderful guide Addison had everything covered (including looking after me through an upset tummy and a sprained ankle). It was a holiday of lifetime and I am back saving to go again. I have so many amazing memories that my phone is now full of pictures and videos. If I were to sum everything up then China and its people are amazing and it is nothing like the propaganda we here. Be aware it is a place with lots of people, steps and squatting toilets but it has so much more. Thank you Addison, our local guides and Wendy Wo for an experience that will last a lifetime 😀

We have just completed the 25-day Grand Tour of China and it has been a fabulous experience! Our national guide, Addison, was an absolute star, making the trip stress-free (for us) and smooth-running. We had a full-on itinerary that included 3 bullet train journeys, 3 internal flights and 3 coach transfers, but Addison ensured that we had free-time whenever possible and really went out of his way to guarantee our comfort. All the local guides we met were knowledgeable and friendly, there was a good mix of cultural and fun experiences and the food was good. We were a little jaded with Chinese food towards the end of the tour, but Addison had warned us that this would happen and tried his hardest to give us the occasional Western-style meal, which was very welcome and much appreciated by everyone. We have taken advantage of the optional add-on stays at the end of the tour and have spent two nights in Hong Kong. We had a half-day tour included with this, which we enjoyed. The accommodation throughout has been excellent and the hotels chosen by Wendy Wu have been well-placed to enable us to venture out and explore or to buy a few souvenirs. Looking back over the many, many photos of the places we have visited, I am amazed at how much we have packed into those 25 days. It really has been a fabulous trip and Addison certainly played a huge part in making the tour so successful. Would highly recommend.

CHINA & TIBET DISCOVERY - Hong Kong

This was our first trip with Wendy Wu — and it certainly won’t be our last! It was an excellent, action-packed tour filled with standout experiences from start to finish. The programme was extremely well organised by a company that clearly knows the region inside out, choosing the best times to visit each site.

The hotels were very good, the food was lovely, and everything ran smoothly throughout. Our tour escort, Andy Zhao, was exceptional — efficient, personable, caring, helpful, knowledgeable, and incredibly hard-working. He went above and beyond to ensure everyone’s needs were met, from offering advice on altitude sickness to keeping a watchful eye on us while in Tibet.

You really couldn’t ask for more from a tour or a tour escort. Highly recommended!

Excellent tour, very busy and saw and experienced a great deal. Very well organised programme, very good hotels, lovely food. Our National escort, Amanda, was superb - efficient, personable, caring, helpful, knowledgeable and hard working. Looked after us very well indeed.

I went on the Wendy Wu China Delights Tour. It was abolutely wonderful. There were so many highlights to this tour it is hard to single out just one. Every day was amazing - the most notable highlights to me were, the Karst mountains in GuIlin, the Terracotta Warriors in Xian, Climbing the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City in Bejing and of course the modern skyline of Shanghai. China was not what I expected, the cities were modern and high tech and the countryside was beautiful. Amanda our national tour guide was extremely helpful and caring. Nothing was too much trouble for her. If we needed anything she would order it online and we would receive the item within the day or the next day. She would assist our tour members who were a bit slower and made sure no-one was left behind. She would take note of any dietary needs to make sure we enjoyed our meals - which were delicious. Also, the other members of the tour were wonderful. They were friendly, caring and helpful.

What a marvellous experience we've had with Wendy Wu China Delights.
Almost everything was different to what we are used to. We travelled from Shanghi to Beijing taking in the most amazing sights, scenery and experiences. Using internal flights, bullet trains and coaches. We stepped in to the Chinese history, exploring, museums, jade and silk manufacturing, to Budda monuments and temples. River cruise on the Li, climbing the Great Wall of China and walking in Tiananmen Square. The trip was fully inclusive of all travel, accommodation and delicious
food. The journey was made extra special by our full time guide Amanda who's knowlege surpassed everything I'd read. She is a passionate advocate from her country and ensuring her fellow travellers were well informed.
Amanda went above and beyond her role, helping and caring for group. Ensuring they had medical treatment, going to the pharmacist for medication.
I would not hesitate to book another hoilday with Wendy Wu.

My recent holiday to China was, simply put, an amazing, bucket-list experience from start to finish. The country's scale, history, and vibrant culture surpassed every expectation. We were constantly awed, whether standing atop the majestic Great Wall, exploring the ancient mysteries of the Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an, or navigating the bustling, neon-lit streets of Shanghai. The food was sensational, and the sheer diversity of landscapes and experiences packed into the itinerary was expertly managed.
However, the true star of the trip was our tour guide, Amanda. Her knowledge was amazing —she didn't just recite facts, they brought the history and context of every site to life with genuine passion and engaging stories. More importantly, they were incredibly professional, attentive, and flexible, constantly ensuring our group felt comfortable, informed, and cared for. They handled all logistics seamlessly, turning potential travel stress into pure enjoyment. Having such a brilliant guide made all the difference; they were truly fantastic!
If you are considering a trip to China, I wholeheartedly recommend it. And if you are lucky enough to get Amanda as your guide, you are in for a truly world-class, seamless, and unforgettable adventure.

It was a good itinerary which was very well executed. We had an excellent Tour Leader (Yang) who was knowledgeable, managed a diverse group very well and provided guidance over and above the itinerary which made a big difference to the overall experience.

China & Tibet have been bucket list destinations for some time and after reading the brochure and the itinary we took the plunge and booked. It is a physically demanding tour but we are a fit and healthy eldery couple and looked forward to the challenge and discovering the mystical Tibet and the magnificent aura of China. The entire tour lasts for 17 days and is excellent value for money. Everything is included in the price. International flights, transfers, delicious meals, excursions, domestic flights, bullet train travel and a fabulous 4 day cruise on the mighty Yangstze river aboard the majestic Victoria Jenna. All this was orchestrated by Wendy Wu's representive in China. The highly professional National Escort Andy and his team of local guides who provided our group of 22 people with an informative, interesting and at times humourous insight into the people, the history and the culture of the Chinese and Tibetans. We were fortunate to be part of a friendly like minded group of people who gelled from day one.
The tour exceeded our expectations on every level and we highly recommend Wendy Wu tours but if you are lucky enough to have Andy as your designated National Escort you will be very lucky indeed.

We had a great 21 days on the Classic China tour, our guide Yang was fabulous, sharing his culture and showing us the best of China. He was very organised, helpful and also made the trip fun. There was a great variety in the places we stayed and the local guides were also very knowledgeable. A special mention to Cherry in Chengdu who kept us amused with her Jokes.
The food was very good at most of the restaurants and Yang worked hard to get us many local specialties to try.
Hotels were good, particularly the one in Lijiang.

We travelled to China with Wendy Wu and had the time of our lives! From the beginning, the organisation was impecable. Plenty of information before travel and access to agents to discuss needs available and timely. Visa application can be protracted and difficult though, and agents at the visa centre not so amiable!
We arrived in Shanghai and were greeted by lovely guide Dawn and our driver Mr Wan, who were ours for the duration of our time in the city.
Our guides in each of our visits were exemplary. Knowledgable and amiable, answering questions and enquiries with depth and accommodating requests with ease.
Dawn was exemplary in preparing us for our long train ride to Yichang to join our river cruise. We really missed her!
In Chengdu, Julie made our explorations easy and informative . In X’ian. Lucky was absolutely delightful and very knowledgable. In Beijing Lily shared her humour and wisdom readily and we gained so much from her expertise.
It did however, sometimes feel as though we were hurried along to fit everything in. I understand that the daily dynamics of life in China for its people is very focused and different to western lifestyles. Perhaps this is what people mean by feeling ‘rushed’ .
Travelling from place to place on trains and cruise ships was Impressively efficient, and at each station.we were guided fully to our platforms, train carriage reservations and destinations. Absolutely 1st class. We only had one guide who left us to fend for ourselves after our river cruise.
Our drivers were also exceptional. Gentlemen with perfect manners! Rallying us around from place to place and looking after us with a smile and a bottle of water!
The hotels were widely varied. In Shanghai the hotel was beautiful. Food passable too. The Yangtze River cruise cabin was very comfortable, but the food was absolutely dreadful! I have a shellfish allergy, and while Wendy Wu assured us there would be a mix of Chinese and western cuisine, that wasn’t entirely correct. I didn’t eat very much at all!
The Holiday Inn at Chengdu was okay. Standard and a passable breakfast. Well situated for investigating the area around it.
The Hilton Garden Inn at X’ian was perfectly situated and we loved the area, but the hotel staff were sullen, rude and unhelpful. We had an issue with the air conditioning that remained unresolved through poor assistance from the staff, but Wendy Wu made a great gesture by giving us free tickets for the following stay in Beijing to visit an acrobat show which went a little way to compensating for two horrendous, sleepless nights while we were overheated, having to have the window open to alleviate it only to be constantly disturbed by street noise and car horns.
Our Novotel Peace Hotel in Beijing was beautiful, and very international, but breakfast was just a farce. No plates, food limited for westerners and a distinct lack of operating coffee machines sadly.
In all, we had a truly amazing experience and met some wonderful people along the way, but there are a few things that Wendy Wu needs to consider appraising. Not least local temperatures in different parts. We were advised to pack ‘layers’. On our river cruise, the temperatures reached a melting 33-34 degrees! We were completely unprepared for the level of heat and humidity in the first half of our journey. We should have packed much more summer wear.
Would we travel with Wendy Wu again? Absolutely! We loved it (mostly)💖we visited world heritage sites and saw things we’d only read about or seen on tv. An amazing journey.

Just a word of warning about WW China by land Japan by Sea itinerary — during our recent tour, we were asked to pay around £75 each in tips, which seemed excessive given there were 22 of us in the group. That adds up to £137.50 per day for the guide to use — and that’s excluding the cruise portion!

When we questioned it, we were told the tips also covered the week onboard the Spectrum, even though we weren’t with the guide then. The explanation? They “still had to pay people” while we were away — reducing it to £87 per day.

After returning home, I raised this with WW, but their response was vague and dismissive. I followed up again, only to be told — in so many words — to drop it.

I don’t think it’s right that travellers are expected to pay tips for a week when they’re not even there, on top of tips already paid on the ship. We all deserve transparency and fairness when we travel. ✈️💬
