It's gone very downhill. There are like no software updates anymore and it's not open source despite seeming like it. I had a better experience with CasaOS, or you can just run your own server with dockge and debian
I had been searching for a product like this for some time. I decided to buy the Umbrel Pro after researching extensively the various NAS products available. I love the clean interface, the available apps and the speed of the ssd based system.
However, several days after purchasing the Umbrel Pro I began getting notifications that there was an issue with an installed ssd not being recognised. The system was reporting the ssd as missing. As the ssd was new it was of some concern.
I contacted support and they were impressive in their immediate response.
After many email exchanges they were able to identify the issue and rewrite code to ensure that the problem did not persist. At all times they kept me informed of the steps they were taking to remedy the issue.
All round great product with excellent support.
I’m very happy with my Umbrel. I originally bought it mainly to run as my dedicated Bitcoin node, and the node interface on both Core and Knots is stunning.
The Umbrel team was quick to release an OpenClaw app for Umbrel users, which got me pretty excited. Once I got OpenClaw up and running, I did come across a couple of bugs, which is to be expected with new tech like this. That said, I found the dedicated Umbrel AI support to be one of the best support experiences I’ve had.
Once the AI support identified one of the OpenClaw bugs, it raised a ticket with the main support team. The ticket did need a push a few days later, but once I followed it up, the Umbrel team was all over it and incredibly supportive in helping me get OpenClaw sorted.
I’ve now been running OpenClaw for about four weeks and have even built websites entirely within the Umbrel hub, despite having no real background in coding or backend systems. It’s all been a great learning experience.
OpenClaw runs really well within the Umbrel container. It does have a few limitations and gremlins, but that’s really only noticeable if you’re trying to get super technical with it
Insanely quick customer support, great setup and unboxing experience (i‘m a sucker for those), feels so smooth and great to host a gazillion apps and the cpu just shrugs it off. i love ombrelos what can i say, and with the Umbrel Pro you have a combo thats barely achievable if you build your own NAS/ server unless you invest months.
Umbrel Pro is amazing. Was using Umbrel Home for 2+ years and decided to upgrade recently to migrate off of Google Drive, the user experience is like if Apple made a NAS. Also dealt with support for a clarifying question regarding static IPs once I got the device, got back within 30 minutes with a detailed response. Makes me confident.
The dashboard is beautiful, the backup is easy to use, however, some of the apps do not work or have not been updated in some time. Inexperienced users may not understand that apps which are outdated are a security risk.
Apps should be removed if they are not being regularly updated to the latest version. There is not even a "last updated" date to warn users.
It seems their focus is on creating an impressive frontend, but little focus on the apps.
No response when assistance was needed.
Purchased the 2TB version on December 19th, received 1TB, they have no phone # for support, only email which is an AI response.
Sent 4 emails (and submitted support request via their poorly functioning AI chat) total over 10+ days and 0 reply from customer support. Their lack of response forced me to file a chargeback with my bank.
Product overall looks to be good quality and function, but their horrible customer support negates any desire to do any business with them. Any returns, errors, warranty issues, you're on your own!
P.S. I see they don't even care to respond to any of the reviews on this site either, another red flag.
I purchased an Umbrel Home during Black Friday. The company provided a delivery date that was not respected, later claiming the item was out of stock. Since then, they have repeatedly postoned the delivery date with no proactive communication. Customer service has been unresponsive, which I find unprofessional and unreliable. I regret trusting this company.
I ordered my Umbrel Node during the Black Friday “deal” in November. Both the website and the invoice stated that it would be shipped “immediately.” Now it’s almost the end of December — and without manually tracking the parcel myself, I wouldn’t have even known where it is.
The worst part: zero proactive communication. No status email, no transparent update, no proper explanation — just radio silence. At the time of purchase, it looked like there was plenty of stock available. About a week after ordering, they then “gently” hinted that the item was actually no longer in stock. To me, that’s misleading and in hindsight feels like a classic bait-and-switch.
Bottom line: a terrible customer experience, opaque shipping, and no reliable communication. I could have sourced a Raspberry Pi 5 with accessories much faster myself — I wanted to support Umbrel, but after this: never again.
I ordered a Umbrel Home and a couple of days later there was the Black Friday sale. I asked if I could participate even after placing the order and I got a e-mail response in a couple of minutes saying they wil refund the difference to me. They were very understanding and polite.
