We stayed at Porpoise Watch in Corolla. Looking at the pictures the house looks absolutely beautiful and everything looked clean. However upon arrival the first day I saw a huge cockroach running across the kitchen floor. Later that night we were sitting out on the deck and we seen a couple more crawling around on the deck. I called Twiddy and they did send pesticide control out and they sprayed the next day. I then found crickets on the second floor. We must have killed about 15 of them in the middle room where my husband and I were staying. I called Twiddy again and pesticide came out and sprayed but we continued to find them the rest of the week. When we arrived home I looked up reviews and there was a review for this exact house back in early August saying something about crickets and they were still not taken care of. There obviously must be a nest in the house on the second floor, probably in the bedroom, it was disgusting. They were actually hopping on the bed like little frogs. Needless to say it was not a very relaxing vacation because I was waking in the middle of the night turning the light on to see if I found more. I could actually hear the chirping in the middle of the night when I was sleeping. I had to keep our suitcases and bags closed because I was afraid of taking something home with me. The house was not clean and I see people coming in cleaning these houses and they are gone within a couple of hours. So Obviously they are not doing thorough cleaning. . The kitchen was not stocked with any good pans or bowls. I think the pictures that you view when trying to pick a rental have all been taken when the house was brand new years ago. One of the cleaners told me that they only have a little over an hour to get in and out of these houses. I don’t know if that’s true all’s I do know is Twiddy needs to keep a better watch on these houses to know what is going on. Of course they didn’t let me know that people had already called about a bug problem in August and they said they would see what they can do about the crickets. I guarantee those crickets are still in the house today and will be weeks from now.

Truly saddened to be writing this review but feel it is so necessary. From the minute we arrived at our rental Ponytails Carolla this week, it was a mess. We were so excited about this trip and although we had to make the best of our week with wonderful friends; we will not be recommending their rental company to anyone. We literally walked into over 20 issues throughout the property that should have never had the house opened to us if it wasn't rent worthy. Let start with the Pool which of course was one of the reasons we rented this home, the last family must have brought a dog because the pool was BEING(IN PROCESS) repaired for a rip liner and being refilled with freezing water from the hose. We made due.. but were very disappointed of course.(not their fault but basically all we got was sorry..." I would be angry too" but did not offer a change or resolve. In the house we found.. Stove doesn't light, two of four bar stools used for sitting at the breakfast bar broken and unusable (one my husband found by almost hitting the floor.. two broken coffee pots, broken blender, cabinet door front laminates falling off, dirty sinks, Master Advertized Soaking tub with removed Plug to force to make unusable, Trash in closets, filthy pool bar area covered in trash from other tenants,Never cleaned under living room area as the where cashew nuts all over the living room couch area and floors as well as under couches, broken outdoor deck chairs and baby gates left scattered all over font top floor deck! This was from a quick walk through. By Day 2 our guests found most of the shower sliding doors only were stuck, windows when tried to open for listening to the ocean and cross breeze almost fell out of the house(we closed quickly) 2nd floor! lights don't work all over the house, sinks don't drain, open broken switches, on and on and on.. We were so sad.. Our party did contact Twiddy shortly after arrival and I was very nice about the Pool and Major issues explaining although highly disappointed, I just would appreciate things addressed asap or we find a resolve.. they brought me 2 twenty dollar coffee pots and called it a Day. The Maintenance person when arrived and I tried to talk to him about some of the issues stated and I QUOTE!!!!! "Are you the Owner? Then your not out anything! I was authorized for coffee pots. This is end of season and that's part of that." Amazingly we actually thought customer service respect was important! Our group have dhours of time to release the house, it was far from used wisely.

6 days before we were to arrive for our vacation at Windune in Duck, rented thru Twiddy, we were called and told the owner had decided to do maintenance on the house and our vacation rental was now unavailable. We were offered completely unacceptable alternatives. After visiting the Outer Banks for 28 years we finally found a disreputable realtor. Buyer beware if you deal with Twiddy!
Tangled Up in DIRT
We rented Tangled Up in Blue and to say the house was disgusting was an understatement. There was dust everywhere, I would venture to say no one has ever cleaned the ceiling fans in the house. None of the bathrooms had been cleaned. There were dead bugs in every window. There were fingernail clippings on the floor behind the night stand. It looked like the only thing that was done was the bed linens were changed.
The house listed a "game room" however, all the pool cues were broken without chalk. The extra refrigerator in the basement was broken. The outdoor grill was broken and wouldn't heat up or stay lit.
This was our first time renting with Twiddy and it will most likely be our last time.
Comforters had stains, blinds were broken in several rooms, curtains had stains, mold and mildew in bathrooms. I would not recommend this house to anyone without an update and/or proof of a floor to ceiling cleaning on the entire house.
We called as soon as we got in the house and they did send another crew (Sea Glass) who were fabulous, however since we were already in, they were limited with what they could do.
Also, the pictures posted on the website are outdated, along with the house.
Dirty house, poor service-Pine Island OBX
Pine Island- Compass Rose. We walked in to a weird smell on the bottom floor (we later took the huge rug outside and the smell was gone). Turned on all the lights and a new smell appeared, like something burning. We found a hat on fire inside of one of the light sconces on the top floor! We could have walked to the beach and returned to a vacation home in flames. @twiddyobx sent a wine & cheese basket to apologize but 4 days in still refuses to come fix the rest of the house.
There are nails sticking out of my headboard which I wrap in a washcloth while we sleep. We bought a drain snake so that I could finally shower indoors after I pulled about a years worth of other people's hair out of my shower drain (where there is also mold on the shower curtain liner). They claim they're cleaning extra because of covid but the air filter is so disgusting I doubt it's been changed since we stayed here 2 years ago. The missing crib was delivered the day we arrived after our first complaint, and a cleaning lady came day 3 to scrub some mold from a shower but didn't have the tools to clean the clogged drain. Twiddy sent a headboard for another room that the last renters requested so congrats to whoever stays here next week! We changed the air filter for you and put the rug that smells like cat pee on the back deck!
Disgustingly disappointed
When we arrived at the home, the house was appallingly dirty. I think that the bathroom showers, toilets and sinks had been wiped down. And maybe the kitchen counters and sink. Other than that, the entire rest of the house was untouched. The house was clearly not vacuumed as there were crumbs/ chunks of food all over the living room floor/kitchen floor and there was sand throughout the house. If it wasn’t vacuumed, clearly it wasn’t mopped either. There were piles of hair and dirt on the bathroom floors next to the toilets. There wasn’t one piece of sit-down furniture that was not horribly stained. My brother tried to nap and woke up with ants crawling on him- we opened the couch cushions to find crackers, and who knows what else all inside of the couch. The tables all had crumbs and sticky stuff all over them. There were blood stains on one of the pillows and the beds has crumbs and hair in them. The original vacuum supplied in the home did not work and the people there before us didn’t take out the trash so when we contacted twiddy they sent someone who asked my brother in law to just “put it by the side of road” for them. The doors in the bedroom and the living area had large leaks when it rained.. The floor is rotting in those areas and we had puddles in the home. The walls had who knows what smeared on them- looked like blood? It was awful. My sister and I spent the first TWO hours of our vacation cleaning. Without a doubt, we left that home cleaner than we arrived. Feeling uncomfortable your entire vacation because the home you rented is so dirty is not what we imagined. Needless to say, this was frustrating to begin with but, during a pandemic? I was shocked that the home was not clean, especially after the information twiddy sent out about their precautions for Covid-19.

DON'T RENT SEA BLESSINGS ON THE 4X4 OBX BEACH
Stayed 18-25 July 2020. I am not one to complain about things unnecessarily but this house is in desperate need of a good cleaning and it's deck poses many safety issues, especially for renters with young kids (which was us).
-we pulled dirty pans and kitchen utensil out of drawers and cupboards
-many of the light/electric sockets didn't work
-rusty nails coming out of the deck made it dangerous to walk on
-deck spindles were not nailed in properly and created a falling hazard for young kids
-picnic table is so unstable and is a nail and splinter hazard, just needs to be thrown away
-3 of the 4 plastic Adirondack deck chairs had cracks in them and felt like they were going to break when you sat in them (looks like they tried to glue them back together, unsuccessfully, at one point)
-vacuum cleaner not emptied out
-house blankets had dog hair on them
-dog hair clumps in corners of rooms, under beds
-downstairs storage room is moldy
-grill is the charcoal picnic area kind (tiny) and that was not made clear beforehand (we were not told to bring charcoal). Created a lot of heartache having to cook for everyone on a tiny 'grill'
-dishwasher has obviously had never been cleaned. I swiped paper towel after paper towel on the bottom and they were covered in that black dirt/grime that is created when, surprise, surprise, you never clean the dishwasher!
Don't recommend. Beach was of course great, just find another house to stay in.
Don't rent Poseidon of Whalehead J10899
Recently rented Poseidon of Whalehead J10899 with a group of 22. The only good thing I can say about this expensive property is that it is directly on the beach. Beautiful spot, nice decks, horrible house.
When we arrived bagged trash (4 bags?) was out in front of house on street. I guess it was from the previous tenants or cleaning crew? In any event it wasn't pleasant to drive up to our $23,000 rental and see trash.
The pictures of the Poseidon on the Twiddy site are deceiving in that they are old, some furniture pictured wasn't in house, hot tub in a different place than picture shows, outdoor wetbar non existent, indoor furniture needs updating.
Twiddy, please update your house photos so prospective renters can see exactly what they are getting for their money which isn't much besides ocean front!
House was not clean let alone covid clean. Front of stainless fridge and dishwashers were very streaky - looked like they hadn't been cleaned and if they were it was just a poor job. Home was dusty, dirty, bathroom mirrors streaky, molding where tile floor met dining area floor broken, furniture is old, rugs are gross, not a steak knife to be had, old double toaster - one side didn't work, 2nd floor washer/dryer doesn't work well, disgusting outdoor grill - God only knows when it was cleaned prior to our arrival - just disgusting. Beach chairs old and rusty.
Ripped screen on lower level flapping in the breeze, pieces of discarded trash from previous renters around the outside of back of house, bottom level - very musty and moldy, dirty, mice, a cockroach, horrible king bed mattress.
Two stars for oceanfront. That's it. Would like to think that more pride would be taken by your cleaning crew and owners of this home. But I guess if you continue to get the $23,000/week with all of the above, why bother.
Poor turnover eventually made right by Twiddy office employees
Although the rental home had not been cleaned properly (vomit in one bedroom, bathrooms with soap on the showers, residue in toilets, dining room table dirty, hair brush in pantry, toothpaste residue in sink, large amounts of sand on the carpet), Twiddy employees sent out a crew to clean the carpet and make amends for the poor turnover. Unfortunately the cleaning crew was not in PPV so we had to leave the home during the cleaning and wait additional time before entering the home safely. We understand a small fee will be reimbursed to us for the inconvenience. We were not cleared to enter the home until 4:30 PM so it should have been cleaned and inspected properly.
2 Twiddy Homes
After the pandemic ended our summer travel plans, we decided to follow the path many other Americans took and rent a house. This was our first time staying in OBX and renting any sort of house. Research took me to Twiddy and while I was nervous, everything faded away when we stepped into our home for the week. We stayed at Amaze of Grace and loved every minute. The Corolla neighborhood was quiet and secluded and the exact opposite of where we live in nyc. The house was lovely..a little older and could use some new furniture but we just loved the space and the proximity to the beach. It was very clean and comfortable and the kids had the time of their lives. At the end of the week, we just couldn’t bring ourselves to leave. We reached out to Twiddy to see if there were any last minute rentals. There was 1! Totally out of our price range..oceanfront in KDH. Considering we were only using 5 of the 7 bedrooms in Corolla, the 10 bedrooms this house was offering was way more than we needed...but we really didn’t want to go home. Twiddy brokered a deal for us at less than 50% off and we were able to extend our trip another week. Totally living a dream now. In the 2 weeks here, our only issue was a low bbq propane tank (1st world problems I know), Twiddy had that remedied within an hour. Communication from start to finish has been prompt and beyond courteous. When the owner approved our offer for the 2nd house, I felt like the agents at twiddy were as excited as we were! Twiddy not only salvaged our summer but helped us make it one for the books!

I don’t even want to give this rental…Vacation ruined
I don’t even want to give this rental company one star for the service they didn’t give us. We rented Margaritaville J20934 and were basically baited and switched. The house was so completed dilapidated and in horrible disrepair. The refrigerator was broken upon move in, screens were ripped, house was dirty beach chairs were rusted and unusable, hot tub that was promised was not usable. We saved for our vacation and got a horrible house. When we called the rental company to address the unacceptable issues, the only thing they said was that they were so sorry, but there was nothing they could do. Do not rent Margaritaville and do not rent through Twiddy rental company.

Twiddy has always maintained its reputation as reliable and easy to work with. I book everything online and know our house is ready when we get there. Houses we stay in are always clean and if we ever have to call they are courteous and prompt. Love going through them!! We stayed at Monarch by the Sea on the 4x4 beach and the house was perfect! The homeowners left lots of extras that we would have never thought of!! Very clean and spacious, pictures do not do it justice. I do wish they had a bigger grill or even propane grill. We actually went and bought another charcoal grill and we left it there for new guests to use as well:) we loved it here, the horses were out everyday and a short walk down the nice walkway.
Responsive to issues
We ran into a few issues with our rental property this week. One was simple- the keyless entry had malfunctioned. We called, spoke to someone within seconds and they sent someone to fix the problem within an hour or so. It needed to be replaced- the gentleman- I believe his name was Cade left us a note that he would be back to replace the keyless entry system. And sure enough he came back and finished the job. The second issue was that the 3rd floor AC unit stopped working on the 5th day. Noticed this at night and it was cool enough to wait until the next day. When we called, I spoke to an operator right away. They asked a few general questions and sent someone out as soon as they could- it happened to be Cade again. He looked into the problem, realized he couldn’t fix the problem and called a HVAC vendor - which we never saw but assume they serviced the AC unit for the next renters. My wife received a text from Twiddy- this was after they left a voicemail- we couldn’t answer when they called- telling us to try a few more things, which didn’t work. It was getting pretty warm on the third floor so they offered to bring fans and window AC units to help until the HVAC vendor could get there. The units didn’t work very well but both my wife and I were very pleased with Twiddy’s response to the situation. They seemed genuinely concerned about us and did what they they could do in this situation. I would definitely recommend Twiddy. We used them last year as well and had zero problems with the property we rented last year.
We arrived for and paid for "early…
We arrived for and paid for "early check-in." Unfortunately, we were not aware of the traffic that occurs in the area so while we were there early, we didn't actually make it to the house until regular check-in time. After talking with the staff, they offered to extend an early check-in for the following year at no additional charge. We appreciated this and are looking forward to returning in 43 days!

I want to ditto the previous two reviews. Prior to arrival it took Twiddy 48 hours to respond to any email or text because you can't call them - only leave messages. We paid for early arrival and when we arrived the pool was not ready and the hot tub was absolutely disgusting. The stove did not work and was dirty, nor did the first floor AC unit work. It took 3 days for issues to be resolved. In meantime, it was raining for 2-3 days and the 3 window ac units held in by PAINTERS TAPE were leaking all over the floor and down the wall. We had to put towels down repeatedly. Also rain coming in the sliding glass door in bedroom. They never did anything about this. We have rented beach houses before and never even remotely had any experience like this. I would NEVER EVER rent from TWIDDY again...
This is probably the worst run rental…
This is probably the worst run rental realtor I have every experienced. We rented a house, on the beach, 10k for the week. Arrive, there are window air conditioners in the windows because the main units are not working. The house is 80 degrees, the theatre room is 85 degrees and unusable, 2 of the 5 bedrooms are in excess of 80 degrees and unusable. Yesterday, 2 guys show up to remove the window units (we are in COVID and have CHILDREN IN THE HOUSE, they enter without MASKS!!) and claim the main units have been repaired, they have not, we sent them packing. For 2.5 days we have been trying to get someone from TWIDDY REAL ESTATE to return our calls, 3 text messages, 2 actual voice calls for a manager, zero response from anyone. We staying at Ohana Cabana and can assure you that if you are planning on staying in Duck, 1. don't stay here and 2. FOR SURE DON'T USE TWIDDY!!!!. We've rented beach houses for years, this is positively the absolute worst experience ever. Today is day 3, still no functioning AC....ridiculous.
