I really wanted to love these dresses and had high hopes when I ordered three dresses priced at £94 each. Unfortunately, I was disappointed from the moment they arrived. Each dress had been tightly folded into an individual plastic bag only slightly larger than A4 and was extremely creased. I appreciate that rayon crepe is prone to creasing, but I don’t think a customer should have to steam or iron a brand-new £94 dress simply to try it on properly and see how it hangs.

I was also surprised by the sizing. I am comfortably a size 10, but all three dresses were very snug, with virtually no room for movement. Based on my experience, I would certainly recommend considering sizing up.

The designs themselves are genuinely lovely and the fabric felt fine, which made the quality of the finishing particularly disappointing. On closer inspection I found loose and untidy threads around a fastening, and the placement of the polka-dot fabric across prominent seams and details looked careless. The covered buttons down the front of one dress looked particularly haphazard but noticeable of all was the navy spot Dolores which has a seam running straight down the centre front of the dress, yet no attempt appears to have been made to match the polka-dot pattern across it. The result is extremely obvious and, to my eye, makes what should be a beautiful dress look poorly finished. At £94 per dress, I expected considerably better quality and that along with the skimpy sizing meant they were all returned.

To add to the disappointment, I paid £10 to return the dresses using an appropriately tracked and insured service because of the value of the parcel, so I am now out of pocket simply for having tried them.

Purchased using their size guide on their website, chose a size 10 as seemed to nearest my size.

Dress arrived in about a week, in a packet - similar to what you receive if you purchase from mass produced fashion and outer packaging was a brown envelope. For a £90 ish dress i was disappointed.

On opening the dress is hugely creased and smells, doesnt sit right due to creases. Fabric feels cheap and apparently if you wash you may need to reshape...Definately not able to wear straight away. Dress fits snugly, no wiggle room at all. Please bear this in mind if choosing which size to go for. I reached out to customer services on email as no telephone number avaialble. They did respond on first email saying yes i could purhcase another size (a 12 would allow me for some movement in the dress) and they would refund which ever I returned. I replied aand asked to check stock as the 12 is not showing on the website.

Washed dress in cold water, did have to stretch gently to reshape, hoping once ironed it looks ok. And still no response to email askign about size 12.

I have been buying clothing from The Seamstress of Bloomsbury since 2014 and I can say hand on heart this brand is AMAZING ! The quality is excellent - I still have clothes from when I first found them - the cut is so flattering and they last. When I opened my little boutique in SW France last year I just HAD to spread the joy by opening a brand partnership, and my customers can’t get enough of these beautiful clothes. Most recently I needed an express delivery to France for a vintage festival and the service has been just brilliant. The Seamstress of Bloomsbury team are exceptional, the clothing is dreamy and I can’t recommend them highly enough. Bravo !!!

Exceptional customer service. I have nothing but praise for the help and prompt response to my queries. I bought a Cindy blouse in black mayflower which I fell in love with at first sight at a shop in Lyme Regis. When got home I realised it was too small so contact the company and they organised an exchange which exceeded my expectation of their professionalism and speed of response. The quality of the blouse is marvellous and I love the design and fabric. It makes me feel very special. I have bought original 1930s/1940s clothes before and this item is a faithful rework of the time. I would definitely buy from this company again.

Wonderful company with friendly and helpful staff. Their garments are beautifully made, superb quality, a joy to wear and authentic in every detail for that 1940s look. Stylish, chic and perfect for any occasion. My No1 all time favourite ❤️

I now have two pairs of the amazing vintage inspired trousers. I was looking for ages to find something that was vintage but still very wearable with some of my modern clothing. The cut of these trousers is perfect and they are very flattering on.

I have ordered several times from S of B and never been disappointed. Most recently I ordered my second pair of marilyn jeans and they are really comfortable.
One thing I would say is that if you have muscle, consider sizing up on the jeans as I've found there's not much give in the fabric.

Wearing my Seamstress of Bloomsbury clothes makes me feel very beautiful and confident. They are so thoughtfully designed and of a high quality and last for years and years. Staff have always helped me, either on social media, email or by phone if I have any queries about sizing or care of my clothes. Customer service is excellent. I highly recommend this amazing company.

Also confused about some of the reviews. I have been buying from here for 5+ years. I have loved absolutely everything. My weight and shape have flucuated over the years after 4 kids, so I have been a regular repeat customer and own pants, coats, multiple dresses, skirts, slips, petticoats, and a LOT of blouses. I've never had trouble with the quality of any garments. I get compliments every time I wear Seamstress, and think pricing is extremely reasonable, especially when compared to other vintage inspired brands. Its a bit of an addiction for me, but just wish I had more places to wear my outfits!

I love their men’s high waisted trousers. I now own 4 different colours and they fit me like they were bespoke.

I have several pieces from The Seamstress and they are all good quality and unique, I get loads of comments when I am wearing an outfit from them.
I recently bought a playsuit and had an issue.
I was contacted within a few hours to sort out a replacement and was delighted with the support I received.
I now have some accessories to compliment my outfit which I love, I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for beautifully made couture

The quality is appalling. Trousers button keeps popping off, threads are hanging, fabric quality is poor. It’s a shame because the clothes looked so nice on the website.

I don't normally write reviews but the poor ones for The Seamstress of Bloomsbury are the complete opposite of my experience! I own two dresses, two blouses, a skirt, a Fair Isle slipover, and a cardigan. Each item was carefully described on the website including sizing and fabric used. My email queries were answered quickly, thoroughly, and thoughtfully. Parcels from the UK arrived as expected and were packaged nicely. I sew and can attest to the good finish on these vintage-style pieces. My Dolores dress especially gets me tons of compliments.

If you are happy with a vintage looking piece that is extremely poor quality for around 80 to 90 then these products will be perfect for you. I was super shocked when my cute dress arrived extremely see through the belt was so thin it was laughable and there where strings hanging of it, i find the false marketing of this brand really disrespectful so if you truly want a good quality garment then dont shop here.

Received my dress. My expectations were high for the price. I’ve purchased SHEIN and Rihoas dresses before, I would say it’s the same quality of fabric. Feels plasticky, see through! Beautiful pattern but the quality isn’t there. I’ll take the LOSs, but will never order again. For SHEIN quality, SHEIN is cheaper.

My parcel was delivered the day after I ordered the dresses which was amazing. Unfortunately, the Ava dress was a very strange shape and neither the size 14 (my usual size) or 16 fitted me. The waist was tight, and the arms were very long and completely covered my hands (I am 5ft 5.5 in tall). Be aware that returns are not free.

I own a good handful of pieces from the seamstress of bloomsbury and I adore them all. I especially love their rayon fabric that they use, it makes it feel more authentic, and it sits lovely on me - everything they make is very flattering to the body :)! These dresses are just like my true vintage dresses from the 40s and I love it. My only issue is that on two dresses that I have purchased - the hem is very uneven (swoops down randomly at the side) but it is not a hard fix if you know how to sew

The most beautifully made dresses I own! The fabric is a gorgeous crepe de chine (which in my experience I’ve never found anywhere else, absolutely beautiful!). I now have three dresses and counting.. they are all so flattering and well made. Lovely colours and classic vintage design that’s very hard to find anywhere else! Customer service is amazing too, although I forgot to request the free beret, when I contacted Seamstress of Bloomsbury they were so kind and posted it out separately. So happy I discovered them :) x

I ordered two dresses from The Seamstress of Bloomsbury as options to wear for a vintage inspired dance performance I was doing. And I follow one of their models on instagram which is how I discovered the company.

Admittedly I was in a hurry when I ordered the dresses - as I had been let down by my original costume plan - and I ordered one of the dresses in the wrong size! Whoops!

The dresses were sent out quickly and arrived the next day which was wonderful, and they were both gorgeously vibrant colours and beautifully cut.

Naturally I had to go with the Red Polka Peggy dress for my performance, as it was the one I ordered in the right size! The fit is really nice, and with the dress being wrap in style I found it sat really nicely around the neck and bust line, whilst the wrap part of the skirt comes over really well.

The dress moved beautifully during my dance performance too, and I can vouch for how comfortable it was during the performance too, so I knew it would be a dress I could easily wear all day on future occasions. The length was perfect - which as a taller lady is refreshing!

My plan was to send back whichever dress I did not use, however when I saw the Cindy, even though it was not in my size (my aforementioned error in ordering) I knew I had to exchange the dress for the correct size because it was also so lovely.

I did get the correct size Cindy dress, and as soon as I put it on I wanted to frolic...that's the only way I can describe it. The skirt is beautiful and flows so elegantly, whilst the neckline is incredibly vintage in style but oh so flattering, and again the fit is just spot on.

The other thing I would like to note here is the customer service I received. When I did the exchange I needed it sent to a different address than I had the original sent to. And the team at The Seamstress of Bloomsbury were just so lovely and accommodating and really went above and beyond to ensure that I got the dress, and was happy with everything.
I was made to feel so valued as a customer and I really appreciate how they responded and corresponded with me through the process.

I am so pleased with my purchases from The Seamstress of Bloomsbury, and will definitely be a repeat customer.
