I returned an item to Modern Shop because the quality was extremely disappointing, particularly given the very high price. Not only did I follow everything required for the return, they made me pay the return shipping costs myself — and then still refused to refund my money.

The customer service has been exceptionally poor. Overpriced products, disappointing quality, and an unacceptable approach to returns and refunds.

Based on my experience, I absolutely cannot recommend Modern Shop. Businesses that treat customers this way shouldn’t be surprised when customers don’t come back.

Awful experience.. ordered an item which was out of stock and was sent an automative reply saying that it would be sent 4-8 weeks later possibly even 16 weeks to arrive ! I wanted to cancel my order knowing that this would be way too late since it was a gift . I sent many texts which were answered DAYS later where again an automative reply said I’d be answered in 72 hours which was never the case . I even called the shop , left messages and was NEVER called back . Once I received the item it was defective ! That added to my frustration and was then passed onto a manager . I was refunded 40% but the texting back and forth took a long time . My purchase made in May was received end of July and the whole resolution process for a refund ended end of August ! Horrible communication, ignored phone messages and if an item ordered is out of stock it will take MONTHS! Be aware they have horrible customer support and service !

If I could give no stars, I would. I ordered 3 Rosti mixing bowls which were on sale as well as 2 lids. When I placed the order, the 3 bowls and one lid disappeared from the Paypal charges and only one lid showed. Order couldn't be cancelled so I paid $30 (website said $20) and the lid went from $5 to $8 so I suspect this is an American company pretending to be a Canadian company. I complained and the e-mail I received said I never ordered all those products, which was a lie. When I said that I thought they were U.S. based, I never heard back. So basically I purchased a plastic lid ($40+) for a bowl that I never received.

Ordered 2 Untitled Table and Wall Lamp Nemo Ark on Nov 19 2025 with 4 to 8 week delivery. It is now 15 weeks and no sign of them.

I ordered from the company because they're Canadian. I'd forgotten Canada's reputation for call centre penny mining stock scams and seniors frauds of 30 years ago. I see we're back at it in a different format.

At 7 weeks I wrote asking where they were and was told the factory had closed for Christmas. I told them to cancel the order. They said they couldn't as they were in production.

They just lied. Either the lamps had not started, they were being built, or had been built.

If they were being built, they would not take more than a day to finish - they were just being retired for North American wiring. They were built which leads to the last option - they were built.

if They were built or in production, it has taken 8 weeks to ship them from Europe to Toronto - and they still aren't here.

I leave this weeks for 8 weeks and no one will be here to accept delivery. The Modern Shop says it's not their problem.

customer Service just lies and says they're on their way. Dont believe them. The company is a scam or it's insolvent. They take your money and don't deliver.

I'll be more careful and check Trust Pilot in the future before ordering again.
