Almost finished with The Makeup Artistry Course and it has been a great experience. The course is challenging in the best way and has helped me grow my skills and confidence. I’m very grateful for everything I’ve learned and for the helpful feedback and guidance throughout.

I learned alot in this 5 Modules. They explained everything so good,and is easy to learn because of the way the Website is organised. My Tutor gives a good feedback and is quick with my results. I am very passionate and excited to complete my course and to achieve my goal. And becoming a good make up artist.

Great learning experience. Dor an online course there is so much details. A lot of details and easy explanations. The videos are also well presented.
There is always online support Which is great.

As I live in a region with no in-person makeup courses available, online learning was the only way to go. I had the option of a few but I’m glad I chose IMUA. The enrolment process was easy, the course materials were detailed and beautifully presented, and the online platform was easy to navigate and use.
I also appreciated the affiliation with industry providers such as MAC for Student and Pro membership, and Designer Makeup Tools for providing a pre-built kit to get you going with the course requirements. The brush set especially was great, it has everything you need to start out.
Each module assignment is well thought out, and goes beyond the obvious basics. E.g. you aren’t just expected to apply a basic period makeup and be done, you’re expected to think further, be able to adapt it, and understand and explain the differences and nuances which is fantastic preparation for real-life work. Each module comes with a detailed PDF document covering different aspects of the topic including history, evolution of the look, particular influences including people, events, and products, and a breakdown of how to do several looks with products included. These are accompanied by a series of videos of the makeup being applied on models.

My only minor gripe is the videos. They are filmed beautifully in high definition and have a voiceover talking through the application steps. However, I did find myself wanting more. There are long gaps of silence in between each step, and no further explanation to fill in the time. E.g. she will say to apply something with a certain brush, but not why that brush was selected or the process behind it. The videos are still helpful, but just don’t expect a full-on detailed masterclass on each look. More like a minimal demo.

Overall, I would (and already have) recommend IMUA to people wanting a comprehensive course on Makeup Artistry. You will benefit from tutors with real professional industry experience and gain confidence across a wide range of makeup styles and applications from Beauty & Bridal to High Fashion, Film & TV, Theatre, Fantasy, Special Effects, Prosthetics and more.

I always look forward to the feedback after submitting assignments. The feedback is always so thorough and guides you with tips and point out ehat you can do to improve. I love the personal touch it adds to the course. I enjoy that there are videos showing exactly how to apply the different styles and the modules explains everything in detail.

This course offers a great combination of quality and flexibility for anyone looking to upskill their makeup artistry

I am almost done with my Diploma course. It was a fun and interesting journey. I learned so much in these few months.

The videos are great, and each module comes with a study guide. This study guide is packed with information on each topic, it tells the MUA what is expected on site - is it theatre, fashions shows, photo shoots, or at a film set.

My tutor is Rachel da Santos who is always willing to give me advise. She always give constructive feedback on my assignments. She is a very positive person.

I also subscribed to the Advanced Bridal and Airbrush module. This module build on the makeup done in the Diploma course. But while the Diploma course works with powder makeup, this module focusses on more bling. It teaches how to use liquid and cream eyeshadow, blush, bronzer, and contouring. It also teaches in the videos how to use the Temptu Airpod Pro system, instead of traditional airbrushing.

The courses include reading lists, and all these recommemded books are superb. Beautiful reading.

The theatre, SFX makeup and prosthetics sections were fun, and we could design our own characters.

Before the course, I noticed makeup at makeup stores, and had no idea how to use it. We weren't required to buy everything for our assignments, but techniques how to use all these makeup items like sparkles, liquid highlighters, false eyelashes, cream bronzers, contour powder, cream eyeshadow, eye crayons and more were demonstrated in these two courses.

I did a makeup course previously at an ITEC accredited school, but I haven't received such an indepth training. Most tutors there just finished their own training with only two years of experience. Here we learned from seasoned tutors who have years of experience in different makeup fields.

I think the only down side to this course is the fact that one only have access to the videos until a diploma is issued in 12 months time. I wish I had lifelong access to these videos after graduation because one learns something new each time one watch the videos again. I would be grateful if access can be granted even after graduation.

Apart from that, it is the best course ever.

I have really appreciated the encouragement of my tutor, Nolene. I have been transitioning from another career to makeup artistry and have struggled alot with confidence.
Nolene really helped with that and shared how she also felt the same way when she was starting.
Her suggestions on how to improve and her feedback from assignments were also amazing.

I am very pleased to be part of the IMUA journey. I learned more about myself with this course than I ever expected! Working with different models helped to better my techniques. The guidelines given in each module makes my experience easier. I learned a great deal with each module and the information given is very insightful.
They made each one unique to better my skills.
Never knew that I would love doing SFX makeup so much!!! To create a different character each time is very interesting and fun.

A fantastic reasonably priced course. And supportive staff

I like the fact fact that we could progress through the course at our own pace.

However, there are times where I feel really overwhelmed with the amount of assignments (theory/practical) that I find to be really excessive, and the fact that there's no arranged group / one-on-one help session is making it difficult to complete the course.

This course has been outstanding in every way. I decided to pursue a career change while working full-time in a high-pressure job and juggling the demands of single parenting. The fully online, self-paced format has been a perfect fit for my lifestyle. I’ve learned so much already and have felt genuinely supported throughout the journey. Any questions or concerns I’ve had have been answered promptly and thoughtfully.

Now at the halfway point, I can honestly say I can’t fault the course. The videos and materials are both engaging and informative, and I already feel well-equipped to take on this exciting—if slightly daunting—new path. I also really value that the Diploma provides a strong foundation across all areas of the industry, giving me the flexibility to shape my future in any direction I choose.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this course to anyone considering a career in the field.

Through this course I have learnt lots of new skills that are easy to understand and very effective in helping me create beautiful makeup looks. The feedback given by the tutors after each assignment is constructive and helpful. I would recommend this course to people who have an interest and passion for makeup!

Amazing course with hands on experience on a variety of models.

This course is wonderful, it gives you a foundation for makeup and allows you to be creative.

Instructors are flexible and will allow you to model for assignments if necessary but will require you to have models besides yourself available, and to be successful in this industry you need to be able to have practice on multiple types of canvases.

This is a self paced course, so be prepared for that but also be prepared to have support when you need it. For a general interest course, or to supplement your photography portfolio of just get the basics this course is wonderful building block to get your foot in the door as a MUA.

If you're looking for something more comprehensive, check out a local school with a co-op placement but for someone looking to create, influence, or work on your own - this course ticks all the boxes! :)

This course has been great and very helpful in my journey to learn more about makeup. Some photo demonstrations in the booklet are a little hard to follow and would benefit from having videos for all of them, but otherwise everything has been amazing!
