Wrong School Policy! Frustrating.
I had a very negative and poor experience with the Lento Law Firm (now LLF National Law Firm, which manages StudentDisciplineDefense.com). I retained and paid the Lento Law Firm/LLF National Law Firm a total of $15,000 for their services in a University disciplinary matter in Washington DC. They charge flat, non-refundable fees, which is not allowed under the DC Rules of Professional Conduct. I was assigned an attorney who was never licensed to practice law in DC. All his emails he sent me and to my school were all referring to a law firm and how he was designated "Esquire." This attorney did not deliver any results for me other than advising me to not do anything and to refuse to participate in any interviews. He was also advising me under my school's Title IX policy. Turns out, from the very beginning, my matters never even fell under that policy, so I'm not sure why he kept referring me to an inapplicable policy.
Some things I wish I could have done differently during this process is conduct better research on who I retain for legal services, such as seeing which states attorneys are barred in, and if they have any current and/or previous disciplinary history with their State Bar. I never knew that StudentDisciplineDefense.com did not have any attorneys licensed to practice in the District of Columbia, otherwise I would have hired someone else. StudentDisciplineDefense.com also refused to refund me my $15,000 payment.
