I found Stone Survey through a google search and after reading the reviews I proceeded to use Steve for a survey and a drone survey. The whole process from beginning to end has been exceptional. Steve is a great communicator and his work is very professional and thorough. I would highly recommend his services.

There used to be a good expression "all fur coat and no knickers". Lovely web site, lovely online form. No real human reply at all after 11 days (and counting) even a short one to say they didn't do the sort of work I needed done (possible tree damage) which I could quite understand. So much for "ideally next working day". Best avoided?

Steve was excellent to work with and his report was very useful. We have actually used him twice. The first flat Steve uncovered a serious damp problem that led us to look for another property. The second time his survey found significant roof and gutter issues that helped us renegotiate a price. His survey report along with a follow up phone call helped us determine what was reasonable and what was not.

Steve completed the survey very quickly, it was very detailed, he iniated a call to discuss the survey which was extremely helpful as it clarified a lot of things on the survey that I didn't quite understand and helped me make a very important decision.

I would definitely use Steve again and would highly recommend his services.

Really great quality survey

Steve provided a really thorough survey report and took us through it on the phone to make sure we were clear about all the findings and his recommendations. He also suggested we could renegotiate the price of the house to reflect the findings - we took his advice and managed to achieve a lower price which will en able us to do more renovations.

The report was provided after three working days and was extremely thorough. We had a couple of questions based on the survey so had a follow up call with Steve shortly after. He was able to quickly answer our questions and recommend the next steps to take.

This was our second survey with Steve as unfortunately the survey on the first property we were trying to purchase highlighted some major issues so although it was upsetting news at the time, it saved us so much money in the long-term!

We hired Stone Survey LTD for a Level 3 Building Survey, expecting a detailed and professional inspection given their RICS accreditation. What we got was shockingly poor – not just unhelpful, but actively harmful.

Steve, who initially handled our booking, passed the job on to someone else without properly informing us. That person turned out to be utterly incompetent. When we raised concerns, Steve spent more time making excuses for their failings than actually addressing the issues.

They missed a literal fist-sized hole in one of the internal walls, which I spotted myself during a normal viewing. I had to insist they update the report to even include it – completely unacceptable.

They also missed obvious damp on a bedroom ceiling (not hidden by anything) and failed to report visibly poor brickwork on the side of the property, again in plain sight. These weren’t small oversights – they were major structural and cosmetic issues that we ended up paying thousands to fix.

When questioned, they denied using subcontractors, but that only makes things worse. If this was Stone Survey LTD’s own staff, then the lack of competence is even more worrying.

This wasn’t just a bad experience – it gave us a false sense of security and directly led to expensive repairs. I genuinely believe I would have done a better job myself.

I’m writing this review to prevent others from making the same costly mistake. Avoid Stone Survey LTD – they are not just unprofessional, they are dangerous.
