Standby Education is Derby's local and independent education recruitment agency, placing supply teachers, teaching assistants and support staff in Primary, Secondary and SEND schools across Derby and Derbyshire. We're not a national chain. We're a small, Derby-based team — Jo and Matt — with deep roots in the local education community. We work with a manageable number of schools and candidates so we can do things properly, not just quickly. What makes us different? We're honest. We brief our candidates thoroughly before every placement. We turn down schools that don't treat supply staff well. We match on suitability, not just availability. And when you call us, you speak to a real person who knows your name. Whether you're a teacher or TA looking for flexible work in Derby, an exam invigilator seeking seasonal school roles, or a school in need of reliable, vetted staff — we're here to help. I have had a very positive experience with Standby Education and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for opportunities within the education sector.

The team takes the time to understand your skills, experience, and career goals before recommending suitable placements. Their advice is always honest, professional, and tailored to your individual circumstances, ensuring that placements are well matched to your background and expertise.

A special mention goes to Jo, who has been absolutely wonderful throughout my journey. She is highly experienced, knowledgeable, approachable, and genuinely cares about finding the right role for each candidate. Jo has always been available to answer questions, provide guidance, and offer support whenever needed.

Excellent teaching agency

I have had a fantastic experience with Standby Education. Matt and the team are friendly, supportive, and attentive. They take the time to get to know you and are excellent at matching you with roles that suit your skills and preferences. Communication is always clear and prompt, and I feel genuinely valued and supported. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and professional supply agency.

I've had a great experience with standby education

I've had a great experience with Standby Education. The team is friendly, professional, and always supportive. They provide excellent opportunities, communicate clearly, and are reliable with payments.
