Not what it says on the Tin
We had previously visited Smith's Bar & Grill for a Sunday brunch, which my wife enjoyed so much that she decided she wanted to celebrate her 60th birthday there with friends. Unfortunately, our return on 16th August for a 7:45 table was very disappointing.
When we arrived, menus were laid out, but instead of a warm welcome, our waiter simply said, “If anyone chooses from the tasting menu, everyone has to have the tasting menu.” Not exactly the greeting we expected for a special occasion.
We ordered drinks at 20:05, but by 20:15 nothing had arrived. I eventually had to ask the waiter to come back and take our food order. In restaurants known for quality service, I’ve always experienced staff starting with the women at the table. When the waiter looked directly at me, I politely explained that it was my wife’s birthday and asked him to begin with her. He took her order, but with a noticeably sharp tone. When my wife asked about his demeanour, he replied, “That’s how I am. If you want another waiter, I will get you one.”
Feeling uncomfortable, I asked to speak with the manager, but sadly, that conversation was of no real help. My wife’s birthday mood had completely changed—she felt embarrassed, and we decided to leave.
It was a deeply disappointing experience, and we will not be returning. I truly hope the staff at Smith’s Bar & Grill receive customer service training, as no guest—especially celebrating a milestone occasion—should be made to feel this way.
