Visually noticeable 1 oz Gold Buffalo uneven rim thickness.
There is a noticeable rim thickness variation in the received 1 oz American Gold Buffalo coins. The rim should be 2.95 mm, but measurements range from 2.51 mm (near the bison’s back legs) to 3.13 mm (near the top of the Indian’s head), aligned consistently across coins, causing visible tilt when stacked. The variation is most apparent when rims are compared side-by-side. Despite this, all coins passed resonance tests and weigh exactly 1 troy ounce.
SchiffGold stated such variation is normal, that the coins came from the mint, and referred me to the U.S. Mint for further information, without providing order or contact details. They also present themselves as direct mint dealers, which appears misleading.
The pronounced and consistent rim irregularity raises concerns about whether the coins were minted by the U.S. Mint or potentially contain alterations (e.g., tungsten inserts).
