I’m a local and I shop at this location often. This morning, I came in to buy the Kombucha and juice shot drinks.
This morning was a bad experience at this Safeway location. It’s so horrible that I’m compelled to write this review.
Do better Safeway and this is specifically to the cashier guarding the self checkout this morning, date, Sunday, June 1, 2025, 9:00AM. I specified the date, and time so they can check the books who was scheduled to work the self checkout area, so that the correct is person is address.
Safeway, you all get your business for every customer that spends money in your store. It’s a give and trade , you have product, customer sees product and buys it. Customer is happy and business continues to stay in business.
I spend $22 and some change today at your store. And obviously, that’s not much compared to other customers who spend more. However, that’s not the point here, a customer is a customer, regardless of the amount they spend. That’s still money earned for the business.
Now, I came in here this morning, and like I said, bought juice shots and kombucha. I done this on many occasions spending money at your store for goods. This morning, the juice healthy drink that I picked up said, $2.99 each if you buy 3 or more. The regular price is $3.99 each if not on sale. I picked up 3 bottles, so I could get the $1.00 discount for each bottle. I bought 3 bottles. When I entered my rewards card #, the items showed $3.99.
That said, I told the cashier, “Excuse me this is not showing as $2.99, but on the tag, it clearly shows buy 3 or more, it’s $2.99, so she said, “Okay, let ask staff to do a price check.”
After, 3-5 mins pass, staff employee (not the cashier who was watching the self checkout area) comes back and tells me “Your right, it does say $2.99.” I’m like okay, I knew I wasn’t seeing it incorrectly.
After another minute or so pass by, the lady cashier comes back and tells me , “Oh, it’s for a different item”, so I said back to her, “Ahhh, okay, well, you all should remove that tag because if you look at the placement of the sale tag, it can be confusing to the customer because the item (juice shots drink) is placed above the sale tag causing the customer to read it as a sale item.”
A person who has judgement would have said something, “ Yes, you’re right, that’s our mistake and will fix it.” This cashier ignored the suggestive feedback and instead immediately, gaslighted me, the customer, and insist to me “No, it’s for a different item , we can go look together to prove to you that it’s a different item.”
In my mind, being calm (I’m chill and calm individual) I’m thinking, I understand that it’s for a different item , but what I’m saying is, “The sale tag is placed incorrectly, causing confusion to the customer thinking this is a sales item because of where the item and sale tag is placed.”
She didn’t take the feedback and instead defended herself. This whole time, I’m just watching her facial expression and body language, thinking in mind, “Are you serious, I get that it’s for a different item, but I suggest you remove that tag so that the customer isn’t confused.”
Obviously, I wasn’t speaking this out loud and just thinking in my mind. Why argue with her, she isn’t using rationality here, she gaslights the customer, instead.
I basically didn’t say anything anymore and told her “It’s okay.”
Clearly, she isn’t logic and rational person here, Safeway. And she is suppose to set an example for cashiers and represents Safeway employees , but no, she defended herself and didn’t take the constructive feedback. No sorry , no nothing from the mistake on your end at all. Wow!
Anyways, some caution and suggestions for customers who come in here, you all should take photo of all the sale items you get because they will not honor the sale tags even if it’s their mistake.
And yes, I wanted to save $3 . BUT no, this cashier will gaslight you. Mind you the staff that checked the price said, “Your right, it does say “$2.99”, but when the cashier came, “She said, no, it’s for a different item.”
And obviously I wanted to save $3 but more than anything it’s PRINCIPLE of it, Safeway. I been a shopper at this Safeway location for years providing them business and support local businesses here in Vacaville.
You all should do better with making sure the tags are place in the correct spots instead of giving false advertisement to the customers. And instead of making it correct, you all tolerate that cashier gaslighting the customer.
Not a great way to start Sunday morning!
Other groceries competitors in here in Vacaville aren’t this way. Only at Safeway did I experience a mediocre and not great shopping experience.
Bait and Switch Over and Over Again
On May 30, 2025 I went out of my way at great inconvenience to take advantage of an advertised deal on bagels. When we got there, we were told that it was an error and not being honored. There was no attempt to offer a discount, raincheck or any other amendment to address the inconvenience.
As of this posting, the ad still appears on their digital ad on their website.
This is not the first time this has happened with this store. If it’s a good deal either they run out or it’s an error.

There was this regular customer Dennis that shoped at the 75th and Evergreen Safeway. He didn't have a smart phone, and wasn't able to use the app for digital coupons. He shopped there almost everyday, and spent a lot of money. The managers all refused to give him the sale price, and would have talk about him behind his back. They didn't like him, so thats what they did. Even though he shopped there almost everyday. It was really sad to see how horrible the customer service was at that store. I told him he should stop shopping there, and go somewhere that treated him better.

The employees in this store are amazing! I have gotten numerous pick orders and have been pleasantly surprised that both girls did the best produce shopping which is always a worry doing pick up anywhere. Love this store don’t believe the bad reviews!

There is a constant shortage of goods, prices are too high, the site does not accept the order but the money was taken and is being returned for a long time
You suck safeway
Seen as you don’t have a category for Safeway in Canada I’ll write it here. Your staff’s behavior is blatantly disgusting abhorrent unacceptable and unprofessional! I was followed and harassed by both an lpo and a security guard while I was shopping in the new west store at the skytrain station so guess what I dumped all my groceries and walked out! Not before I lead these two clowns on a wild goose chase around the store for half an hour I hope someone stole a bunch of stuff because they deserve it that’s what you get for discrimination against people it’s karma. What goes around comes around. It’s no wonder so many of your stores shut down because of poor service, high theft, high employee turnover rates it’s a recipe for eventual economic collapse.
Outstanding Customer Service
I was shopping for a sandwich platter for a Mother's Day celebration at your Engleside Store on Richmond Hwy in Alexandria VA. The deli manager (Merkeb Abebe) gave superior customer service. My platter was not only delicious but prepared to perfection and completed prior to the pickup time. She greeted me with the warmest smile and willingness to go the extra mile. In addition, this is the level of service I consistently receive at this store. Safeway is fortunate to have such a deducted employee whose entire team demonstrates excellent customer service.

I stopped in @ the Cle Elum, Washington store on my way back from a family camping trip. The kids were hungry and the wifey was grumpy. I was in and out in less than 10 min. thanks to one of the nicest, most helpful customer service representatives I've ever ran into. Her name, I retrieved from her employee badge was JOYCE G. Thanks for making my day!!!
Do not use the COINSTAR machines at SAFEWAY
Do not use the COINSTAR machines that Safeway AGREED to place in their stores, and are receiving revenue for renting space for these machines.
The COINSTAR machine took $ 51.98 and gave me a receipt to bring to Starbucks and Starbucks will not accept it!! I tried at a standard Starbucks, they told me I have to take it to Safeway Starbucks with the machine. When I returned to that Safeway the Starbucks said I had to cash it in through Safeway. Meanwhile, Safeway is taking no responsibility. They owe me my cash AND compensation for time and travel, plus interest. I spoke with one cashier that would not refund my money, and TWO managers who denied any responsibility and gave no assistance. One actually accused me of being the problem, in her "24 years at Safeway". NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT from Safeway. Doesn't Safeway have an agreement with that company? Are they not profiting from those machines in their stores? STORE LOCATION: Des Moines, WA.
NY Strip Steak - POOR quality!
Who in the Sam Hill is now supplying your steaks?????????? Safeway at Arapahoe Road and Quebec. Who in the Sam Hill is now supplying your steaks?????????? I will be going to bed hungry after cooking a NY Strip on low. I like mine medium rare. I always keep a good eye on it. Well...Checked on it after a few minutes and the oil in the skillet was full of water/moisture, the steak was lookin done, and there was no blood left tho? I cooked home fries to go with it. The steak was inedible. I'd rather drive to Albertson's in Pueblo once a month to stock up on GOOD meat than waste money on your meat, which has steadily gone downhill. Wow! It's a durn shame!

The bar for Safeway is pretty low
The bar for Safeway is pretty low, but it reached a new low. I stoped by this location for the first time and it’s a freak show. Impossible to find a bag for groceries. Out of four people visible in the store, half did not comprehend the item I was referring to. None knew the location and had to find it on their phone. Everything is ridiculously overpriced and I would not go back even if was free.
Advertised prices seldom what's charged
Once again (actually it's consistently every visit) prices charged at checkout were different than advertised. I clipped digital coupons which normally work fairly well but this time again only some of them were honored. I was in a hurry and didn't notice till I was home. Safeway inevitably displays in store and online pricing far lower than what they actually charge and if you don't stand there and review your receipt after paying you will get screwed. If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd say it was intentional. It's been going on for years and I refused to shop there for years. I only use the store for sale items now and still get shafted if I don't spend the time to check the receipt after checkout. The receipts are also confusingly designed which makes it more difficult to double check their accuracy. No more, it's impossible to save any money with Safeway.

Demonstrably inflexible application of rain check
In far too many instances Safeway's rain check policy is farcical. Here's a recent example in context. Everyone knows about the continuing egg shortages. A brand I like is a dozen of Happy Egg free range, organic, brown, large eggs. At the time I sought to buy more, the shelf was empty. So I got a rain check, good for 4 dozen eggs at $ 5.49 each, the specified 30 days to use. Subsequently when in the store, and on more than one occasion, that product was still not available. By that last time, it was day 30. When later those eggs were back on the shelf at the time of another visit to the store, the rain check had expired. Most recently I emailed a complaint to the listed address of no less than three Safeway employees. Nary any replies. And that's the way Safeway demonstrates enhanced customer service, in this case for longtime, regular patrons like me?
Also, as do lots of other Safeway customers, have a considerable 'beef' with their digital coupons. Several times in the past when an especially attractive such coupon was offered, the first day of it found the item out of stock. Thereafter, that condition remained for the duration of the offer period, Wednesday though the ensuing Tuesday. Then, the following Wednesday, suddenly that item was in ample supply on the shelf. Too, Safeway compounds this problem by no longer allowing customers unable to buy the item in question due to its extended unavailability, to receive a rain check.

This place is a disaster. Shelves always half empty, prices keep going up, and the workers act like they don’t wanna be there. Self-checkout always broken, and the regular lines move slower than a snail. Used to be my go-to, but I’m done wasting my time here.

@Safeway I'm needed to talk to someone higher up Other than Dave the manger cause is the one who's letting the employee slander the customers!, I'm having an issue with an self-checkout employee named on her badge is Cathrine who works at Safeway, I actually stopped shopping there 6 months ago because the employee wouldn't stop bringing her electric bill to work and telling other employees and customers that I was sending her that to her house, so I stopped shopping there because I felt they were harassing me, today I come in second time in 7 months for soda sale, and the same employee seen me and started telling everybody very loudly that I'm sending her porn to her, and I had other employees coming up to me about this employees issue I have no idea where this crazy employee person problems are but I would like to be able shop there once in while without being harassed. Won't be back!

Way too expensive for what you get. Shelves always half empty, produce barely fresh, and the lines take forever. Self-checkout’s always acting up, and good luck finding an employee who actually helps. Used to be decent, now it’s just a rip-off.
