Recommend this school to anyone serious about Yoga

My 300-hour YTTC at Rishikesh Vinyasa Yoga School was a transformative journey. The curriculum was well-structured covering ashtanga vinyasa primary series and intermediate series alignment with naveen ji, Vinyasa Flow with Rajesh ji, philosophy and meditation with jk ji, Anatomy with Opi ji and satkarma n pranayama with chirag ji . The teachers were experienced and gave personal attention to every student. special thanks to mukesh ji, pragya ji and vinod ji....The environment in Rishikesh made the experience even more special peaceful, spiritual, and perfect for learning yoga. I gained confidence in teaching and a deeper understanding of yoga beyond just physical practice.
I would definitely recommend this school to anyone serious about yoga.

Poor quality of 300hrs training, serious hygiene issues

I left the 300-hour YTTC end of November 2025 feeling misled and very disappointed about the quality of the training. Although the school advertises an advanced and transformative program, the reality does not reflect a true 300-hour curriculum (in fact only 200 contact hours are given, thereof only 155 hours truly on a 300-hour-level as they combine classes with 200-hour batch). I did not feel spiritually or personally guided in any meaningful way, rather it was an „Instagram Yoga School“ focusing on creating marketing content. On top of that, there are serious issues with the cleanliness and hygiene of the facilities (rooms, dining area, yoga hall). What was advertised as „Situated in the Majestic Environment…Instituted in the green and calm valley of Rishikesh“ turned out to be a trashy construction site. For sure not a calm and peaceful environment for yoga practitioners.

Not a Real 300-Hour Program:
Many classes for the 300-hour students were simply merged with the 200-hour course, especially Philosophy, Pranayama and Shatkarma. This resulted in repetitive content, not advanced teachings, which was boring and I felt, I was wasting my precious time here. There was no clear progression, no depth, and no differentiation for more experienced students. The spiritual aspect, which is often the heart of a 300h YTT, was missing entirely.

Major Discrepancy in Contact Hours (Only 200 Hours Instead of 300):
The actual number of contact hours (hours with teacher) was far below what is required for a legitimate 300-training according to Yoga Alliance guidelines.
Based on daily schedule, there were 8.75 teaching hours per day over 23 training days, which equals 200 hours in total - not accounting for delays and canceled classes. This does not meet the Yoga Alliance standards for a 300-hour program and is a major misrepresentation of what students are paying for.

Frequent Delays and Lack of Professionalism:
Teachers arrived 10–15 minutes late consistently for 60-90 minute classes. Lost time was never compensated, leading to a significant reduction of actual learning hours. Also several hours were not giving because of illnesses of teachers which of course I fully understand. But the management of the school was not able to organize an alternative or provide an extra classes another time. Also the schedule of the training did not take into account short breaks between classes and our 300-hour batch had to move constantly between yoga halls as several classes were combined with the 200-course. This was another reason why classes started a bit chaotic.

Accommodation: Mold, Dirt, and Unhygienic Conditions.
The accommodation quality (I stayed in a private room, cottage No 103) was unacceptable. It was my 2nd time in India and I travelled before 2 full month through North India. This was one of the worst places I have stayed.
Problems included: Mold on the bedroom and bathroom walls. Dirty, unhygienic yoga mats, never cleaned after classes. Mold also present in the yoga hall. Rats running through the dining hall (see video!). This created an atmosphere that felt unsafe and unhygienic. I personally had to stay for 4 week in this moldy room, because the management was not able to provide me with an alternative (fully booked, no other room available). I several times had respiratory issues during the night and slept with all windows open, to improve air circulation although it’s getting pretty cold in November (even for my German taste).

Positive Aspects
To be fair, asana practice (Ashtanga) and alignment classes with Naveen Ji were excellent and well-taught. Also anatomy with O.P. was great! These teachers were the one strong point. They also teach in other schools in Rishikesh ;)

Poor Management: neither open to feedback nor supportive. My request for a partial refund was immediately rejected, and afterward I was simply ignored. They suggested that I keep „quiet“ and „calm“ until the end of the training, because I’ll need their support for the Yoga Alliance Registration.

I wish there were an option to give…

I wish there were an option to give minus stars! I wonder how this place has so many good reviews, which makes me think that they are all paid reviews!

I was part of the July 2025 batch, and from my experience with other schools, I would say this is the worst school in Rishikesh! There is no commitment, no integrity in this place.

To begin with, yoga should be done in a clean, hygienic environment, and this place is filthy to begin with. There are overflowing bins and cockroaches everywhere. The yoga mats are all ancient, have lost all grip, making them prone to injury from slipping on them. The yoga hall does not have a safety door to keep the stray dogs out. July being monsoon season, we often had stray dogs full of mud, coming in and lying on our mats, licking our faces while we sat for meditation!! For all the students and staff, there is one washing machine which is broken and does not have a permanent water connection, which means if you want to wash your clothes, you need to stand there the whole time! The dryer is broken as well and works only if you hold it in a particular way!

After seeing all these, I decided to leave the school just after two days. Another classmate left as well (you will see his review)!

I didn't even mind all the above problems if the teaching itself was good, but no luck there as well! The fees are equivalent to other schools, but the quality is not on par! The pranyama teacher basically is also the facility manager with no skill in English whatsoever! The first two days' sessions that I attended, he basically used sign language to explain the techniques! I understand that English is not our first language in India (I am an Indian as well!), but if you are catering to so many foreigners, you need to have teachers who speak basic English!

When I requested for refund because they failed to deliver on basic commitments like cleanliness and good teaching, Mr. Mukesh, the manager, went back and forth many times. He even asked me to come to the school, but then left early without letting me know! When the only time, I could speak to him face-to-face in his office, he could not even look me in the eye and kept staring at the CCTV cameras.

Taking time off from your career and doing this was like once in a lifetime opportunity for me, but overall, this has been a very upsetting experience!! The worst was the attitude of the people who are running this place. They have no understanding of yoga principles, and the place is run like a money-making business!!

I definitely can not recommend this…

I definitely can not recommend this place, but lets start with the good things:
Food was okay and apart from one teacher, who seemed a bit inexperienced, you can get good lessons and probably deepen your Ashtanga practice at this place.
I did not get to experience that. I stayed for three nights but had to share my room and bed with several cockroaches. Even buying cleaning equipment from a local market and laying out traps did not help it. When i woke up in the morning with a big cockroach under my blanket i could not have it anymore and left. I can only explain the roach infestation with the cleanliness conditions in the whole place. Trash cans were standing around unemptied, the cleaning in the rooms was not done sincerely and also rooms and facilities were pretty run-down. Other participants had termites in their room, water dripping from the roof and the roaches seemed to be a common problem at the facilities.
After leaving it was a week-long hassle to get some money back. Luckily i had not signed the "Code of conduct" they gave us in the beginning of the course, in which it said (rather hidden!) that no money is refundable. After being ignored on whatsapp, going to the school for an arranged meeting and then seeing, that management had left already and a lot of discussions they returned a part of the money. All this process did not feel professional at all and rather fraudulent from their side.

My conclusion is, that this place can offer some nice yoga, if you can arrange yourself with questionable cleanliness conditions. At the same time my impression was that yogic values were not upheld by the management. Rather they focused on making money with the least effort possible. In this sense not an authentic place at all. As i had a wonderful time at a different yoga school afterwards, i can confidently say that this is not the standard in Rishikesh.
I wish all readers good luck with their decision making - Aum Shanti.

200 h yoga teacher training

I did a 200 h hour teacher training at Rishikesh Vinyasa Yoga School and I hope to come back here for 300 h training! Teachers are amazing and very knowledgable. The food was simple and healthy, vegetarian and mostly vegan, as many students were vegan. What I appreciate the most is that the owners of the school constantly try to improve and ask for suggestions on how to make the student experience better.
