Do Not Trust This Company
Relative connections has a 3 stage process.
1. 299 fee to begin a search
2. 499 fee when person is found
3. 499 fee to contact the person as a intermediary process.
I was searching for a family member and was told within a week they had been found, I paid for all 3 costs above and they started the contact. For 3 months I waited to hear back, anxious and sad that the relative had not responded.
After many months I found out the person handling the case (Olivia) had left the company and handed nothing over to the team. When the team looked at it they realised the wrong individual had been found, they then ran a new search for the right person, and in this search found they were adopted which meant they could not contact the person. Had this been done correctly, there would be no need to pay for the Intermediary service, instead, they took an extra £499 for contacting who bloody knows.
There was no apology, no admittance to getting it completely wrong, and the worse part being no sympathy for the distress they put me through.
Honestly if they were honest - they would realise one paid for something that was there mistake.
Do not use them and find other tracing companies.
EDITED 12 NOV: Look at their response, we charged you for a finder's fee however, we would stop when it was an adopted person, but failed to mention they made me pay for an intermediary service when they got the wrong person.
I did not even comment the fact that they did not even call after I tried ringing 4 times, everything over emails, took ages to get in touch.
Guys, own up to your mess. Say sorry and move on.

Whilst we completely appreciate your disappointment your review contains information regarding the service that is simply untrue and therefore I do need to address this.
The service you chose is, as you detailed, charged over three stages. You claim that you have paid for all three stages but this is not the case. You have made only two payments and the remaining payment is not payable since the search identified that the individual concerned was adopted.
After the initial search an individual was identified whose name was a match. As only one birth in this period was registered in the name and only one person was resident in the UK with this name and matching birth month/year we discussed that we needed to contact this person to establish if she was the relevant person. We explained that we could not be certain at this stage and therefore the final payment would not be processed We further explained that, should contact show she was not your relative, the case would go back to the team for further investigation. At no point did we tell you that the individual we had identified was the person you asked us to locate, rather that we had to speak to them to establish either way.
We have no control how long it takes a person to engage with us. We explained the contact process and we adhered to that. She did take some time to respond and for us to be able to verify that she was not the person named on the birth certificate and that she had not been born in the UK. This then verified that the birth certificate related to someone no longer using the name or who had left the country. We were further able to verify that she had been formally adopted.
We then advised you of this and that we could go no further forward with the search. Had this been identified immediately the second payment would have been payable as the research is concluded. As per the T&C’s which you agreed. Ultimately you have paid exactly what is the required payment for the service you selected.
We did not get it wrong, we explored (as any diligent researcher would) all avenues and informed you along the way.

Please do not use this company. Finding family is a very emotional and raw experience and you are willing to do anything to find them. I was desperate and spent over £1k. There was an initial fee, which I thought was fair for the research required. Communication was non-existent. I phoned and emailed so many times, with no response. When I did finally speak to someone, they started to give me someone else's information.
They then contacted me to say they had found a family connection and I would need to pay more for them to reach out on my behalf. I did, only to give up after a few months and found my half-siblings myself in 2 days using FreeBMD, a few leaps of faith, google and facebook!
It might be that my situation was complicated as my siblings had moved to the US, but they said they had colleagues over there who could investigate, though I never heard anything. This has been one of my most heart breaking experiences and would not recommend them to anyone.
Post note: I have tried phoning them a few times since they said they would review the case. Having spoken to 2 separate people, their lack of responsibility and response is astounding.

I wanted to find a non-relative
I wanted to find a non-relative, and was told it would cost £900, in three equal stages.
Stage 1. Pre-paid, non-refundable Initial Search.
Outcome:- They've got some info, .......end of.
Stage 2. Pre-paid Report, recieved birth certificate details, to confirm person's identity, and they
re-iterated the search clues I had initially provided.
Person now deceased.
Stage 3. Contact Letters.
I declined the up-front payment for them to write three Recorded Delivery letters (yes, as per their original Quotation) to relatives.
Why would I do that?
I had no evidence if they had actually done anything, or that the person was dead or still alive, that they knew if/who/where the relatives live ,or if they would have proven if/where they had sent the letters.
The whole exercise cost me £600,....... for nothing.
I was also suspicious about non-returned calls, and messages, and more than one of the contacts went absent, or a fortnight's holiday,
I could never get hold of Jake, "Do you know his surname? the receptionist asked, after she had told me RC "are only a small company?
Smacks, doesn't it.
I regret the day I contacted them.

I did not request you to contact relatives of my friend, because I thought paying you another £300, just to write three letters, was unreasonable. Up to that point, you had not yet provided me with any credible evidence, to justify me having paid the previous £600.

I am sorry to hear that you regret the day you contacted us. You asked us to locate a friend. We identified in the course of the research that he had sadly passed away and informed you of this. We would have hoped that this would have provided you with the answer you were seeking. We always discuss beforehand that this can be the outcome of any search that we conduct. We provided the sevice you requested at the cost you agreed beforehand.
I apologise if you have not received a call back. This is not indicative of our high standards and I will look into this.
I assume that you wished to speak to Jacob - your researcher? Our general manager is Jake but he has not received any message to call you. It is possible that this is why you were asked if you knew his surname so they could differentiate which staff member you wanted to speak to. Jacob has had annual leave in recent weeks but other members of staff would have been happy to look at this for you in his absence.
We are not a corporate company but staff still need, and are still entitled to, annual leave.
In relation to your report. I have looked at this. We do reiterate the infomation you provide - this is to clarify on what infomation we have based our research. The report clearly states this is client information and not our research.
The research details regarding his birth, parents, siblings, marriage and his passing.
We would not have offered the intermediary service to contact his family if we did not know where they were.
The report states that this is an option for you to consider, you were never obligated to go ahead. Some people wish to when the individual they were looking for has passed away so it is always offered as an option.
The money you have paid is exactly the fees that were explained to you before you proceeded and those which you agreed. The final fee was never processed as you did not wish to make any contact with family.

I contacted Relative Connections to try and find my son. I was told just a few hours later that he had been found, however was provided with a 2 line report which contained 3 errors, the searches had been done using incorrectly spelt name and address, which gave me little confidence in the accuracy of the findings.
I phoned and spoke to the researcher who tried to reassure me and he promised to re-do the report but instead it was never done and he went on long term leave, totally unprofessional.
After I had to chase it the 2nd report was done by a colleague, however vital information was omitted that had been discussed previously.
They apologized over and over for the errors and distress caused and promised to provide a 3rd report. At this point I had paid out almost 800 yet still didn't know if they had located the correct person.
They advertise that they give you support all the way but I needed support from Day 1 but got none.
Separately, following an online review posted by my daughter as she was extremely concerned about the way I had been treated, I received an email warning of possible legal action unless the review was taken down. I complied immediately but I feel the tone of this correspondence was unnecessarily aggressive and inappropriate especially given the sensitive personal circumstances I had already discussed with the staff.
When I started this journey to look for my son I always intended to follow it through to the intermediary service but there is no way now after the way I have been treated.

We apologised for the administrative error in your original report on multiple occasions. Our reports are written by human’s not AI and are subject to human error from time to time. The report had minimal information in it due to the restrictions on what we could share with you at that stage, what we can share was discussed with you before you went ahead with our service.We reassured you from the start that the grammatical errors had no bearing on the accuracy of our search and that your son had been identified and verified by his date of birth and other data but you advised that the spelling error in the report and our researcher taking annual leave had caused you trauma and you felt that we should do further work free of charge. We refused to do so but did offer you a discount on the Intermediary as a good will gesture.It was at this point your daughter left a review claiming that we preyed on vulnerable people and that we had committed breaches of data protection neither of which was true. We do not prey on vulnerable people. You came to us and enquired about our service. You were provided with a free no obligation quotation and a full explanation of what information we could and couldn’t share with you and all costs involved in every stage.
We never threatened legal action. We asked you to ask your daughter to remove the review and invited YOU, as our client, to leave your own honest review of the service once our work was completed. I would not agree that the tone was aggressive or inappropriate in our email raising this matter, I have copied the paragraph from our email at the end of my response in case you have misplaced the email and have forgotten how we approached the matter.
Finally, after we refused to conduct the contact stage free of charge you raised an official complaint requesting a full refund, which we refused as the work had been completed successfully, errors in the report were acknowledged, corrected and apologised for multiple times. In addition, we had offered a discount on our intermediary service.
The following is the extract from the email sent in response to a conversation with myself and where I address our concerns regarding your daughters accusations posted in a review to this platform. I will leave readers to decide if this is aggressive and/or inappropriate.
I do need to address the review left on Trustpilot which I have now seen. Whilst I appreciate your daughters frustration I would be grateful if you could consider asking your daughter to remove the review until our work with you is concluded. We would then welcome an honest review from you, as our client. However, whilst we are still working with you we would appreciate if you could allow us to conclude our work before a final judgement.
We do not prey on vulnerable people, nor have we committed any breach of data. Misinformation of this nature is quite damaging to our reputation and whilst we invite honest reviews, we do not appreciate or tolerate ones that include false accusations/information which are damaging to our business, and which are very demoralising for staff members.
We did apologise immediately when you advised us of the errors, I appreciate that the situation was further exacerbated by Jacob’s annual leave but again this was not intentional or malicious. It was human error and was corrected with an amended report being provided. We will be reporting the review to Trustpilot given the content but as Trustpilot do not get involved in litigious matters and only seek to verify that the person has engaged with a company then chances are they will leave the review online. If this is the case, then we will seek further advice regarding this.
I completely accept that it is not you who has left the review, but as you have confirmed it is a family member then I would appreciate you speaking to them regarding this.

11 years and still waiting!
I instructed Relative connections ( finder monkey) to find my fathers family. I explained the situation fully to them and they felt confident that they would find them, after all they have a 92% success rate!!!They asked for an initial down payment ( £500 I believe it was), and said that they would be requesting the remainder when they had exhausted the down payment. They sent me a DNA test kit. Then about a week later they asked for the balance ( again £500 as I recall). This did raise alarm bells as why they would need the balance when the search had just begun, but I had to remind myself that their average time to find someone is only 28 days or less, so no need to worry!!
At first I was able to contact them and get a progress report, even though each time I was told that there was nothing to report. The months rolled by and still nothing was found, they even said that every week I would get a phone call just to keep me up to date with the search, but after about 2 weeks that stopped. I would call their office but alas my " Dedicated Personal Agent"who was there to support me throughout the whole process and keep me up to date as the search progresses was on another call or that they weren't in today, either way I would have to recall them!
When I did manage to speak with someone, they said that they would have to wait for a 1st cousin DNA match, before they would look at my case again and to call them when that happens.
About 2-3 weeks ago I received a 1st cousin DNA match, not forgetting their " Our Happy Trace Guarantee"so I quickly got on the phone to give them this exciting breakthrough news. But sadly my Dedicated Personal Agent, couldn't get to the phone, but they would get back to me shortly if I left a message, but 3 weeks later i'm still waiting. So I decided to make contact with this new DNA match. I still haven't made that breakthrough to finding my dad's family, but if I had known 11 years ago what I know now I would have saved myself a whole lot of money and just bought a DNA test kit and waited for a 1st cousin match, but then I wouldn't have benefited from Relative connections unique "Happy Face Guarantee", where you can call them at any time if you are not happy with their work.

Thank you for your review. I can see that you instructed us on your case in October 2019 -, just short of 6 years ago. We did make great progress with the case and identified your paternal family. Research was performed in Ireland and discussed with you last year, we advised at that time that we had taken the case as fare as we could with the current matches that you had. We asked you to advise us when further paternal matches became available and we would be happy to reopen the case and continue with the research.
My colleague, your researcher, spoke to you yesterday and you advised that a new match is now available however you have now instructed another company to conduct research into the new match and do not require us to assist you further. We would have been happy to do so.

Clarity on Fees
Just to be clear on fees. You pay an initial £300 and are told it is another £500 when they find the person and an ‘optional’ £500 for them to facilitate the connection. We got a call within a couple of hours to say they had found our contact. We would have to pay another £500 but for that they would tell us nothing, no address or contact detail. Nor would they make any contact. So we would have to pay the second £500 fee for them to make contact. Of course we would have no proof they had even found her. Feels a lot like a scam and yes we should have understood the small print better but the terms and conditions written as a difficult to understand legal document.

Every client has a free, no obligation, consultation before commitiong to the service. The fees for the service required and how/when those are due/paid is made very clear.
Most of our services qualify for the three instalment plan. An initial no refundable fee upfront to cover research, the balance in research fee when the trace is completed successfully and an optional further fee if you require us to act as intermediary and make contact.
We make it very clear from the start that we do not/cannot provide an address without the individuals consent and that if contact is required the intermediary service will be required. The team will make contact with the located friend/relative and arrange contact between you both if they are agreeable to being in touch. This has always been the way our service has operated if you are seeking contact with an old friend/relative.
The team is always open to questions. Our service is guaranteed and so if we have advised that we have located your person then we are confident that we have. The service was excellent. My supposed sister was found in less than 24 hours. Communication and support for both parties were handled really well. Although the outcome was not quite what I had hoped for, I still highly recommend Relative Connections. I am confident they will help you find who you are looking for. Terrible, I reached out to relative connections to support me on my search and they were very keen to take the first 2 payment instalments. Since then despite chasing numerous times they have not provided me with a plan of action to take forward, short of sending 2 letters and doing some basic research it was not worth the £1200 paid.
Given the nature of this company you would expect more care and consideration on follow through, communication.
Overall I would 100% not recommend using them, and I will be requesting a refund through the necessary channels.

It is very disappointing to receive a review of this nature, particularly for an search that is still ongoing and where our researcher has been working incredibly hard, in the few short months since you instructed us, to gather information and research your familial lines.
As per the telephone conversation with your researcher on Monday this is an ongoing case which is very close to being solved. The nature of your search means that it can take several months to gather the required information in order to complete the work as there is a huge amount of genealogical research required. This was clearly outlined to you at the start. We have not processed payment in full at this stage as the work is not completed.
Regular updates have been provided by email. As you have indicated that you have not received all of these we will endeavour to reach out to you on the telephone moving forwards.
We do hope that you will consider removing this review and that you will, instead, wait until the search is concluded so you can leave a review reflecting your opinion on the service as a whole.
You are entitled to your opinion of course and we do invite and encourage honest reviews but we do ask that these are left when the service is completed.
Reviews of this nature are very demoralising to the team, especially when they are putting so much effort in to help move the search forwards.

They found my mother after 46 years
I am very happy with the service provided I was adopted at birth and this company managed to track down my birth mother and initiate contact between the two of us. It’s been two weeks now and we are arranging to meet. I have found out I have brothers and sisters I knew nothing about. I’m very happy.

Promising journey to a very happy destination.
I was very hesitant about using Relative Connections, I was probably more nervous about finding out the truth. I am so glad that I did pick up the courage to contact Relative Connections, from the first communication to the last they have been exemplary. They explained that it will take time, they make no promises but will do there very best ensuring confidentiality, excellent support, guidance and understanding along the journey. My journey took a couple of years but patience prevailed and I have arrived at a very happy destination - my new found beautiful, wonderful sister

My goodness beware
My goodness, these people are daylight robbers, lazy, uncaring, very very sparing with truth and if you dare question anything, Wow Sue goes into full flow of “you are wrong and we are right”, and finds every excuse not to carry out the work they have been paid very dearly for. They really should be legitimately investigated, I feel quite sick they have no conscience about taking my money and have FAILED 100% to find my brother, and refusing to reimburse for their failure. I feel totally hurt by their attitude.
Well here we go again. Please answer ONE question. Why do you think I say you have failed 100%. You come out with such rubbish explanations to promote yourself. You have ignored my requests. Again please answer my question.

We would like to take this opportunity to clarify the facts surrounding your case.
As you’re aware from your discussions with Dave from Joanna North Associates, this is still an active and ongoing investigation. Your search was commissioned as a UK-based search, and through our efforts, it was confirmed by family members that your brother is currently residing in Australia.
Rather than immediately recommending a costly international upgrade, we’ve taken steps — in agreement with you — to contact known relatives first, in order to avoid unnecessary costs. We've been transparent with you throughout this process and have kept you fully updated.
We successfully made contact with your cousin, who informed us that her sister — who has had contact with Martin in the past — will be visiting from Australia later this year. They have kindly agreed to share information and photos with you following that visit, which is expected to happen around September/October. This update was shared with you via email on 4th April 2025.
We have worked entirely within the scope of the service agreed upon and have acted in good faith at every stage. If at any point you wish to proceed with an Australian-based search, we are happy to explain the process and costs in full detail.
We remain committed to supporting you through this process and continuing our efforts in line with the plan currently in place.

Reunited with my Dad
After 22 years myself and my Dad have been reunited and I couldn't be happier. I looked for many years for him but they traced him in a matter of weeks and now we are making up for lost time. They didn't mind being called if I had any questions and I would highly recommend them if you are searching for loved ones.
