Thanks for the feedback even though it is negative.
The main issue is that you did not put enough money in your safe and the project was stopped due to lack of credits.
You were only using the 30€ free credits and rendered more than 500 images for free which is still nice in my opinion.
However, when the project is automatically stopped due to insufficient funds, there are missing images.
When you submitted these missing images to render again, the scene loading time is counted for each image so it increase the price unfortunately (as the images are longer to render).
So this is better never let stop the rendering of a project and get enough credits beforehand.
This said we are working on a new system which will improve the render times of the scene loading time to reduce the price for users.
The whole project should have cost around 70€ for 1000 images according to the online cost estimator with 4 cards RTX 3090 per machine.
You paid 71 € at the end which is still reasonable even though it should have been around 40€ because you benefited from the nice 30€ free trial credits.
Eventually, we sell a lot of computers speed to our users.
If you want to keep the price as low as possible, the best remain to render on your own computer(s).
If you want to have another try later, I can exceptionally add you another 30€ free refill.

Hi,
An estimation of 8 times difference is completely impossible unless the GPU usage is extremely bad while rendering (like 10% instead of 100%) which was not the case for your projects.
Thus, it means that your estimation was incorrect somehow.
Or the scene settings has perhaps changed between your tests and the final render.
We can guide you further by e-mail at contact@ranchcomputing.com to make a correct estimation and understand where was the issue (probably the OctaneBench score set).

Nearly PERFECT Render Farm
I've used Ranch Computing for rendering for many years, and I don't think I would switch to anyone else. I use Cinema 4D and Redshift, and the powerhouse they have can scream through anything I throw at it. I haven't had any issues in the past couple years, but when I did (sometimes just user error), they were quick to help. Ranchecker and Ranchsync are a life-saver, making the uploading and downloading process pretty darn easy. My only issue is that uploading and sometimes downloading can be a little slow. I have a 1Gig internet connection with 700+mb/s upload speed, but upload speeds to the Ranch are often less than 100mb/s.

With regards to the upload/download speed, I have enabled the CloudFlare solution into your account.
It should be faster than the direct route as you are based in USA.
You can enable/disable this setting in your account in the "upload/download" section.

The good and the less good
My rating of 4 stars splits the difference between the 5 star overall product (speed of render, overall price), with the 2-3 star, less ideal, headache of getting up and running - which wasn't clear at all. Now that I know what I'm doing, though, I would likely rate future renders a 5

system with archives is bad because if I need to adjust a simple setting I need to pack and send another huge amount of data, which time consuming. Plus isn't clear how to get multiple image plains. Everything is set up in usd file but you have a separate setting for that for some reason

Could you be more specific by "adjust a simple setting"?
Because if you need to change the resolution or the frame range, you can just use our "re-use" feature from the website to avoid uploading the project again.
If something was unclear, you should have contacted us by e-mail so that we help you out.
I feel this is very though (but this is your right) to put 1 star like if it was a scam whereas you simply got difficulties and only tested with the free credits, as you did not pay anything.

The farm is great.
Fast render. Easy to install on 3dsmax and upload files to the farm very easy, good feedback on the render status. It is a good option for rendering. I recommend it.

The estimation can be tricky sometimes, especially for GPU projects.
In this case it is probably correct but as you have submitted only 11 images to render, all the nodes had to load the scene once before proceeding to the final render stage.
I have noticed that the scene loading time + one image rendered = around 3 minutes whereas when the scene is already loaded it takes only 28 seconds to render a frame.
It would represent a big difference for a complete project with several hundreds of images.
As the users are charged for the computers usage.
The shorter to render, the more cost-effective the renderings.
If you submit for example 100 frames or more: your estimation should be close to the reality!
As the scene will be loaded only once on 10 machines (=40 GPUs) with the GPULow priority. So 10 images would be a bit longer to render as they include the scene loading time, but the next 90 will be fast!
As a result it should fit the estimation :).

I understand your frustration but you should get in touch with us to understand why there is such a difference.
At first glance it seems to be related to the extreme bad GPU usage while rendering the scene. The 4 GPUs per machine are completely under used, so likely over charged.
And the cost estimator is based on a 100% GPU usage.
Perhaps Arnold in CPU mode would be much more cost-effective for this job, as you did in the past.
We can help you out with the credits.
