I am happy to recommend Prime Solar Solutions to anyone looking to install solar panels and the associated equipment on their house.

We had been thinking of investing in solar panels for a while. We don’t usually respond to companies who introduce themselves on the doorstep, but we made an appointment for Steve to call, and we’re glad we did.

Steve already had a schematic of our house roof and knew where the panels would be best mounted, how many we could accommodate, the direction they would be facing, the amount of sunlight that will hit them throughout the year, and the amount of electricity the system will produce. He also explained about inverters and batteries.

We made the decision to go ahead, and the team installed the system a few days later. The bulk of the installation of 19 panels was completed in a single day with just a bit of finishing off the next day. The team were quick, professional, knowledgeable and pleasant to have around.

At the time of writing, we’re still waiting for the necessary certification to permit us to export electricity to the grid, but we can already see the positive impact the solar panels are having on our electricity bill.

We’re glad we had the system installed when we did. The price of power looks set to go up significantly because of the war in the middle east, but we’ve taken a big step closer to self-sufficiency in electricity.

I decided to have solar and booked an appointment with Steve Nolson of prime solar solutions. I was very impressed with the care and consideration given both during the installation and afterwards.

I was approached by Steve from Prime Solar Solutions at my door, but even though I had a bad experience previously with solar salespeople, I was still interested, especially after having gotten an EV. Steve put me at ease by getting straight to the point and diving into details I was actually interested in rather than a sales pitch. Even though I had done no research, I felt it made sense. Installation was a few weeks after quotation, and completed within a few days (including scaffolding, though the main work only took a full day). Having had the system since October 2025, I can say I am really pleased overall and have no regrets in using Prime Solar Solutions.

What's really stood out to me is that Steve recommended me a very good system that I wouldn't have discovered myself, and it is only after having had it installed and getting to grips with it that I appreciate how much better this is than what I had been quoted before. Despite being a 3 bedroom semi-detached townhouse, I now have 19x 460W Longi panels, all black (they look amazing compared to most solar panels you see), where developers of the same model of my new-build house are putting just 2 (presumably lower-end) panels on! I should also mention I was initially quoted for 17 (5 more than from another company), and got the extra 2 for free. This setup isn't bottlenecked by the inverter nor the battery: 6kw Hanchu hybrid inverter and 9.4 (8.93 usable) kWh LFP Blade battery, both installed outside, and despite th ehorrendous weather we've had this winter, the system has been flawless, come rain, snow or sunshine. Hanchu may not be the most well-known brand, but what I love about Prime Solar is how this isn't seen as a weakness. I have been given a system based on quality and performance, not brand image. 8.7 kWp of panels + 6kw inverter is very well optimised (6kw is the biggest one they do), whereas lesser companies who want an easy win would quote an inferior low-end system with a 3.68kw inverter to make their life easier.

In terms of performance, I've seen a peak of 3.2kw in October, on an east-west setup, so I have no doubt that in the summer I will be getting closer to the 6kw limit. Peak daily generation so far is hard to judge, but based on the quoted numbers, I'm matching or exceeding what has been quoted, which is remarkably accurate in aggregate, especially given the variability of our weather. Peak of 16 kWh in October and 6.6 in January, the lowest I've had is 0.3, on the darkest, cloudiest day where indoor lighting is required at all times.

Savings? Well, on Octopus Intelligent Go, the 9kWh battery is enough to get me through dark winter days, charging at night (23:30-05:30) at 7p/kWh and exporting excess solar to the grid for 15p/kWh. On Savings Sessions, this effectively rises to 27p/kWh when factoring in Octopoints. Compared to January 2025, with this tarrif I have used twice as much electricity and it has cost me half; a 4x saving mainly due to tarrif optimisation. And that's not even factoring in the ~£7 worth of export in January alone (despite it being the cloudiest January in recent memory), and the fact that much of the cost is fixed (standing charge), so this saving is greater if your usage is higher. Having been through the worst part of the year under the worst possible conditions and cold weather (not ideal for outdoor installations), I'm amazed how well everything is working.

The main room for improvement is in the admin and paperwork, though admittedly some of this is due to DNOs being difficult to deal with. There isn't really a standard procedure for handover not only with regards to documents but also system demonstration and configuration to optimise the inverter settings based on the tarrif, usage patterns and for longevity, so I can imagine some customers will be leaving everything on default which may not be optimal. For example, it would be wise to cap the charge rate & max SoC, disable discharge (that setting is a little misleading), and set the charge times manually. On the flipside, the benefit of this is that the company is very easy to deal with, no layers of bureaucracy or automated phone lines. They are really friendly and approachable, not rogue traders.

Overall, I'm pleased with my system and I'm so glad Steve showed up at my door with a solar solution that I wouldn't have considered or come up with myself due to lack of familiarity. I'm now really immersed with fine tuning my setup. As someone that generally prefers to do a lot of research before committing to something, I did this on a hunch. In retrospect, that turned out to be a wise decision. Thus, in conclusion I would recommend Prime Solar Solutions if you're looking for a quality system to maximise the value you can get out of solar whilst avoiding the overly optimistic sales pitches.

Prime Solar Solutions gave us all the help we needed to demystify the process of installing a solar panel system. Within three weeks of our initial enquiry we had the whole system installed. The instal team had to make a few unexpected adjustments on site but did a great job with no delays. I would recommend this company to anybody looking at benefitting from these systems.

The installation of the panels and battery system was smooth and the installers themselves were very friendly and approachable! We're already seeing results from our system and can't wait to see how it performs in the summer months.

GREAT EXPERIENCE….
I’d been thinking of Solar Panels for a couple of years now and wanted to invest to ultimately reduce my energy bill going forward…
I arranged an appointment with Steve (from PSS) and one of his colleagues/partners came out to see me.
We sat down and he went through everything i needed to know and he was happy to answer any questions.
I gave him my energy usage and he showed me the system size I could potentially have installed.
The Proposal, Preparation, Installation & Aftercare has been top notch; and we are happy with our system. The guys installing were great and helpful and the scaffolding was up, used and back down within 3days. The installation was one full day. I would recommend them to anyone thinking to get solar panels installed.

From initial contact to completion was well managed and explained. After getting several quotes I went with Prime solar solutions and I was pleased that I did, whilst other installers seemed happy to base thier sales criticising others Prime explained thier product and the benefits of it.
The system has been installed for over a week now and performs exactly as I was told it would.
The lads who installed were great they started as soon as they got here and didn't stop until the job was done and tidies up.

The company was very helpful and have been very supportive and helpful to me throughout the process and continue to help me along. The installation team were excellent and completed the installation in a day. It is performing extremely well. And I’m very impressed and pleased with my system .
