Had a very stress free call this morning with Grace from powells walton solicitors she really took the time to answer my questions was willing to go above and beyond to price match and just based on her lovely personality i stated im happy to go ahead with full price even though i had cheaper quotes elsewhere there was no pressure at all to continue but i was happy either way looking forward to working with powells walton now and when i buy my next property keep it up :)

Terrible company. Responses are slow, work is sloppy, staff are evasive and unprofessional. The whole process took nearly three times as long as last time, despite being chain free both times. They also didn’t pay the estate agents in a timely manner, leading to a dispute.

As an elderly person, I was looking for a solicitor who would keep me informed and make me feel valued, and I’d definitely recommend Powells Walton Solicitors.

Warning to future clients: based on our experience, be very careful before instructing Powells Walton Solicitors.

They do not respond in time. Days pass, and sometimes a week or more passes, before they reply to even simple emails. Phone calls are almost never answered. They keep changing or moving case workers, so you are left unsure who is actually handling your file. They do not clearly explain what is going on, what stage the matter is at, what has been completed, or what exactly is preventing progress. Instead, we repeatedly received vague and ambiguous statements.

At times, it genuinely felt like the case worker did not have enough experience or confidence about what step needed to be taken next. That may sound harsh, but that is honestly how it came across to us as clients trying to complete a property sale.

Margaret and Tasleem handled parts of our matter, and in our experience the handling of the case almost ruined the transaction for us. We have now reached the point where we are considering changing solicitors because we no longer have confidence that the matter is being handled properly.

We are sellers in what should have been a relatively straightforward property sale: a cash buyer, no onward chain, and no complicated chain-related dependencies. Despite this, more than four months have passed with very little visible progress, poor communication, and no clear explanation of what exactly is holding things up.

The biggest issue has been the lack of timely and proactive communication. We repeatedly had to chase for even basic updates. Days, and sometimes a week or more, would pass before we received a reply to simple emails. Even then, the replies often did not properly answer the question or explain what was actually happening with the transaction.

The phone is almost never answered, which makes the situation even worse. When email replies are slow and phone calls are not answered, the client is left completely in the dark. For a property sale, this is extremely stressful, especially when both seller and buyer are waiting for progress.

At one point, after we had already provided replies and supporting documents to the buyer’s solicitor’s enquiries, we still had to chase Powells just to ask whether our responses and documents had even been passed on. That should be basic case handling, not something a client has to repeatedly chase.

We also had to contact the buyer directly because we were not getting meaningful updates from our own solicitors. The buyer then confirmed that they had not received updates either. Our buyers have now sent us a very harsh message saying that our solicitors are not replying and are causing delays. Unfortunately, that matches our own experience.

The responses we received were often vague and unhelpful. Instead of being told clearly what had been completed, what remained outstanding, and what exactly was preventing exchange, we were given ambiguous statements and no proper action plan. It often felt as if the file was not being actively managed.

There also appeared to be confusion within the firm about who was actually handling the matter. One person said the transaction was no longer in their list of transactions and asked not to be copied into emails because they could not update us. Another person later said they were reviewing the file after being busy with the induction of new team members. From a client’s perspective, this felt disorganised and very concerning.

We have completed property transactions before, and our experience with other solicitors has been completely different. Normally, solicitors explain what stage the transaction is at, what has been done, what remains outstanding, and what the next steps are. With Powells Walton Solicitors, we had to repeatedly chase just to get basic information.

This whole process has been unnecessarily stressful and frustrating. For a simple cash purchase with no onward chain, more than four months passing with this level of poor communication is unacceptable.

Based on our experience, I would strongly advise anyone considering Powells Walton Solicitors to think very carefully. If you need prompt communication, clear updates, answered phone calls, continuity of case handling, and confidence that your file is being actively managed, our experience suggests you may be very disappointed.

***would not use this company!!** Not sure how they actually are still going as the unprofessionalism of the staff is ridiculous. I was promised as my sale of my property was simple no chains on either side and buyer was ready we would complete at max 8-10 weeks.
I had to constantly ring and chase them on the daily; Dante was the name of the solicitor I was given and he was shocking! Even to the point I had to ask for another solicitor because he was so rude and belittling, then I was allocated another solicitor who was nearly worse, kept telling me she was busy everytime I rang would huff and puff as if it was a hassle to answer the phone to me. I’ve never known solicitors to make me feel so uncomfortable to ask for an update on my own house sale. Luckily I had the phone number for the buyer or my sale would never have been completed. I was quoted 908 pounds and ended up paying 1400. Scam artists so not use!!!!
