Like others have said - a SCAM company run by people who have no ethics and just want to make a fast buck. Purchased a lifetime plan but barely got any use. Plan was supposed to include updates/upgrades but they covertly developed new packages for those. Recently they just decided to close out ALL lifetime deal customers without any email or notice and want people to sign up to their next unethical scam version of the same product. They won't even reply to emails. Please DO NOT subscribe to these people. Their karma is on the way!

I was on the AppSumo Lifetime Plan and they've closed it down. Only requests now to upgrade. I'd already messaged their support last month when my credits disappeared but received no reply. They've used those who invested first to build their business and then did this. Lifetime is Lifetime. Here is the email copied and pasted as proof, received the day AFTER shutdown.

What’s changing? As of June 27, 2025, the v1 model can no longer be used to generate audio. What should you do?

I've just had a cool offer from ElevenLabs so I'm moving there instead.

So far, play.ht has become one of the largest cash-grabs i've ever seen. You have to PAY to even export audio. Even worse, one of their leading features, "Voice Cloning". Can't even be used anymore, i havent found the button to create a new one even though i've used this program for around 2 years. Don't use.

Rien qu'au stade de l'inscription, c'est compliqué. Pire une fois l'apps prétend que mon adresse e-mail est déjà prise, alors je fais un reset de password, et le message: émail inconnu !
Donc cela présuppose déjà l'efficacité de l'application que je déconseille fortement pour la simple, bonne raison, que si ce qui devrait être simple est déjà compliqué...

Both in the voice clone and in the already made voiceovers, sometimes, the end of the sentence gets cut off. This means you cannot trust that it's just correct. You always have to double-check. Also, it has no app. The website is extremely confusing. Sometimes, the voiceover cannot be changed. Languages promised aren't all there. No entire documents can be done (which is limiting). Children's voices are promised on their website but not available even in the paid plans. They did refund me when I requested it, so... 2 or 3 stars, I guess.

This company is a complete scam. I paid a lot of money for a yearly subscription, and halfway through (6 months in), they completely changed my plan — reducing my credits by three quarters with no explanation and no refunds.

I’ve sent over 30 emails and never got a single proper response. I had no choice but to file a chargeback with my bank.
Avoid them at all costs.

This company is a scam, charging for 2 packages at the same time. I have contacted and emailed support many times, contacted Discord and provided the invoices that I was charged but still received no support or response. I have been charged over $500 for the yearly package, yet they continue to charge me for the monthly package. This is a scam company, with no reputation. Gen voice product often has errors, wasting users' resources, and reporting has not received any response.

Kept billing me again and again even after i clearly cancelled my plan

I’ve been using Play.ht for a while, and I’m beyond frustrated with the constant issues. Recently, I had 130,000 words remaining on my plan, and out of nowhere, it was converted to 217,815 characters—without any prior warning or consent. This change is not only confusing but also ridiculous, as I now have less than 2 characters per word, which is completely unreasonable.

What’s worse is that this wasn’t even the plan I signed up for! The switch from a word-based system to a character-based system, without any approval or notification, feels like a scam. And, quite frankly, I feel completely deceived. No one told me this would happen, and it certainly wasn’t part of the agreement I made when signing up for the plan.

On top of that, the service quality is terrible. Play.ht is down at least 5 times a week, which is incredibly frustrating when you’re trying to work. I end up having to regenerate sounds multiple times because the quality is poor and the results are unpredictable. It’s a massive waste of words, time, and energy.

I’ve paid for a service that’s supposed to work, but I’m dealing with constant downtime and poor-quality audio. The service feels like it’s in constant flux, with frequent, unwelcome changes, and no communication from Play.ht about why these issues keep happening. This is not acceptable for a paid service.

I would highly recommend looking elsewhere if you need a reliable, high-quality text-to-speech service that respects its users and delivers on its promises.

Terrible support!!!!... since 5 days the support team is not able to fix a login problem. They reply after 2-3 days and that too with not clear resolutions. I have escalated to founder, head of product but these guys do not know how to run a company. The Product itself is full of bugs.

The product offers excellent, high-quality text-to-speech functionality, but one major drawback is the lack of customer support. I have been a customer since October and have been using the product to create voice-overs for training videos. I appreciate the simplicity and quality of the service, although it does occasionally produce some interesting pronunciations.

However, I am frustrated by the absence of customer service. Recently, the console was upgraded, and now I no longer have access to the paid cloned voices that are part of my subscription package. I raised this issue on May 8th, and as of today, May 13th, I have only received one response asking for more information. This level of support is particularly disappointing.

Have been using it for a while now but their support is terrible and lately the voices have been glitching, with bad generations. Not happy with the service and have since moved to a different platform.

I gave Play.HT a try last year and it worked great. After about 3 months, I stopped using their service and forgot about it. A year later they charged me $950 as an auto renewal fee for one year. I tried contacting them by email but they ignore all my emails (which is the only way you can contact them btw). TOTAL SCAM!!!!

The best AI tool I have ever experienced, I used this for my coursework under IB program for IAs and stuff.. Really useful.. The best part was I forgot to unsub after I finished my coursework and requested a refund, they gave the refund just like that without requesting any further infos.

on their landing page, they have a sample of a real person not AI. the Arabic voices are terrible. it is a scam.

I have been doing audio work for nearly 50 years. Time is money. This product takes too much time. The voice cloning is very good. But, Nearly half the generations are for the most part worthless. Words are cut off, words are skipped, Sometimes it can generate a 15 word sentence in about 15 seconds. Other times it can take up to five minutes. Then there are times it will give an error without explanation. Each time you have to regenerate you use up more characters. While you get more characters it cost more. And it takes too much time, for generation and redoing generations. And why does it cost more characters if you regenerate? You are only repeating a failed attempt. If you don't like what it spits out, it is still a failed attempt. That cost you.

A rip off really. They woo you in with $19 trial then aggressively pursue their precious $39 a month, which is away too much for a basic subscription for a voice cloning that's all buggy and often takes 10 tries to make the voice appear human without any noise, distortions and sudden glitches. The unused credits vanish at the end of the month too.

Fantastic product and great customer support. We use Play.ht for online course creation, webinars, voice notes, anything that requires voice and that saves us time. Even the voice cloning feature is terrific

I bought the $100 plan, but the service in unusable, it always shows errors and it take a crap load of time to generate anything. They didn't give me a refund so basically I've just thrown $100 away for nothing. don't buy it, don't do my mistake
