Their dyes only work well on freshly beached porous hair, otherwise will fade very quickly even if your hair was a lighter shade. not worth the money for the upkeep of recoloring every 2-3 weeks.

Their subscription program doesn't send out a reminder so you can make changes in time, instead you're stuck paying for return shipping costs. Within minutes of receiving an email that I had an order "created" I tried to chat with CS but no one ever responds (wasn't the first time) and it goes to their email. by the time they reply it's "ooops, your order is too far in the shipping process and we can't do anything for you". really? either send out reminders OR have someone on chat 24/7.

The dye didn't work for me, it was more dull brown than red and just darkened hair. The consistency is also difficult to apply. What really could be improved is actual instructions instead of a few steps. Most home dye kits include lots of guidance and tips for different situations.

I had this at my house for a couple of months now, the color is way too bright in person on the box. I sent in a request for return the second I opened it an NO REPSONSE

A solid 3-star experience. I used overtone's Black Velvet depositing treatment mask on and off for about a year. I noticed in late 2024, early 2025, the formula changed and it's way less pigmented than it was which is disappointing. It works for fun semi-permanent color, but for lasting color, look elsewhere. It does condition well and does actually have a moisture-rich formula. It smells of chemicals and if you have a sensitive scalp, definitely do a strand test before using. Also it has terrible gray/white hair coverage. I think it's only function is really for vibrant colors you want to wear for like 2-3 weeks. Although, I haven't tried it on freshly bleached hair so it may last longer depending on the hair color base/wash schedule, not sure. Way too expensive for the sizes. Like c'mon, less pigment, smaller tubs, more money? We know the economy's trash but like have your consumer in mind. We all want good products that can go the distance in terms of bang for our buck. Speaking of, a tub is only enough for 1 round of dye for like a lob/bob hair length, if you have longer hair, you'll need to buy 2 or 3, maybe even 4 depending on how long/how pigmented you want to keep it.

I have used Overtone colors a lot. I like the various shades of silver to give my grey hair life and shininess. I’ve used purple to support my Baltimore Ravens. I just tried the cherry chestnut, hoping it would turn my greys into a shiny brown with cherry highlights. It didn’t. My hair came our purple! Just a warning to other silver vixens that this color on grey hair will result in purple.

I've been shopping with Overtone for a couple years now, and they've been my go-to for keeping my color vibrant between visits to my stylist, and first to recommend to friends.

However, this recent order had a couple problems:

- First off, the majority of the items that I initially ordered did not get shipped, resulting in me only receiving 1 of 6 items that had been ordered. I reached out to customer service and they were extremely quick to remedy this and sent me the missing items immediately. Excellent customer service, I am satisfied with this side of the transaction, minus the delays in receiving my product while it was resolved.

- Secondly, and this is the big one for me: it appears the formula for the coloring conditioner has been changed. I used to order the "Extreme Blue" color, which has since been replaced with "Cosmic Cobalt". No big deal, I thought, its just a name change, so long as its the same product its fine! However, I discovered upon opening the bottle of conditioner, that more had been changed to the formula: It now contains large amounts of menthol! This is stated nowhere on the product, not even the usual buzzwords that hygiene products typically use to indicate menthol ("cooling", "soothing", etc). Just an extremely vague warning that it "could contain irritants, test on a small area before using".

As I recall, there used to be very small amounts of menthol in it before, but only enough for a vague aroma and not much more than that. This new formula, however is *packed* with the stuff, and as the pungent smell assaulted my nose I realized I was in trouble. You see, I'm allergic to menthol. Trace amounts are not a problem for me, its a mild irritant in those kinds of quantities at best, makes my skin red and itch a little bit and could be mitigated by taking allergy medication prior to using it, but the amount present in the new formula left my entire scalp in hives, as menthol quickly absorbs into the skin and lingers even with extensive rinsing.

Now, I realize this is partially on me, the label *does* say to test a small spot before using due to the possibility of irritants, but I had been using this product for a couple *years* without issue, and am *very* unhappy to discover that I now have to take the time to experiment with other brands.

TLDR: if menthol is a concern to you, this product may not be for you.

My items came more quickly than I had anticipated. Good quality as always.

Great products

Overtone color dye. 👍🏾🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.
But when I used the Depositing conditioner there was no change, I will leave it on longer next time.

I haven't used the color I just received yet, but I have used different ones over the years, and I love that it freshens my color and I look like I just went to the salon. I have hot pink hair, and it is a great product!

Color turned out as expected - which it always does. I'm never disappointed with the performance of oVertone Color!

Always get amazing colors that stay in my hair for longer than regular semi permanent dyes. Plus, my hair is hydrated when I use the mask

Love this product! The color is rich, it fades at just the right pace so I have some control over how purple I am, and the product is affordable and gets to me quickly.

Love my new Overtones leave in conditoner, brush and shampoo!

great service, great product

The service is fine but the Vibrant Purple color is worthless. The Extreme Purple was a GREAT product that was no longer available. My hair is naturally silver and the Vibrant purple barely shows. Very disappointed.

I have yet to receive my product.

Does not work did not color my hair only skin. Website is difficult to navigate for a refund.
