The course folder had no structure without a proper reading list or any indication of when to read the books. Finding items later on was not easy either as there is no index. Grouping the folder into lessons is of no use to the student. My tutor often seemed to have a different folder to the one I was using. Also as far as I'm concerned I haven't finished the course-my exam is in June. I realise this is my error for not checking the course support but clearly there is no support for helping with past papers and practice. An online resource would be useful to get students together on the same course to discuss the subject matter.

I did GCSE maths and science via the Oxford Open Learning Trust, and I loved every moment of my study. Teachers were very supportive and flexible, you can arrange your tutorial any time suited for you. Also the materials provided are effective and helpful to prepare for not only passing the exam, but to score higher grade. Go for it !! Good luck.

Great. Freedom to learn at own pace with assistance when needed. Recognised qualification got me on to the access course I needed to progress to veterinary science at uni! At 25 I'm a mature student and this was definitely the right choice for me. Only reason it's four and not five is that one of my tutors, an older gentleman, preferred telephone not email. Although, through my own admission I never questioned this

Recently retired, I decided to redo my French A level. I studied for both components in one academic year and passed with an A. I was delighted with the course and can really think of no criticisms.
The course material was interesting. I used it in conjunction with another recommended textbook, which was valuable in consolidating my learning. I liked doing the online exercises.
My tutor was helpful and encouraging. I was in contact by email and phone. I followed the advice in terms of time tabling, which was necessary to keep me on track.
The exam arrangements worked fine.
I would recommend this way of learning.

Helpful oversight from personal tutor. Good course out line and material. I'd study though these again no problem.

Still waiting on feedback to 2 assignments I submitted back in March 2015, tutor confirmed receiving but never heard a thing. A previous assignment was marked incorrectly and I had to contest this 3 times.

Went ahead and did the exam by myself and gained a decent result

I succesfully completed an A level in History and gained a grade B. Overall I was satisfied with my course, in particular my tutor Nigel Bushnell was very good. The four topics were adequately covered by the course material, although they varied in depth and detail. Module three Aspects of international relations I found to be a little thin on detail. My tutor however pointed me in the right direction with regards additional reading.

Highly recommend the course. I had a great tutor who marked my work quickly and gave very good feedback. I couldn't believe it when I got an A*.

To be able to study from your own home and in your own time is a bonus. You always have your assigned tutor on the end of a phone or by email. I was able to pass which allowed me to go on to university to become a adult nurse.

Great value for money and a great support package. I have used them twice with excellent results. Very efficient sevice with everything you need for success!

The written course was excellent and well organised, the oral aspect was much more haphazard despite my excellent tutor. I suppose working full time inc weekend and night rotas doesn't help. My only improvement would be a more fixed oral component with better practice for the exam. Thank you

I did igcse English, I have always been scared of having poor English skills so was teriffed of doing a gcse. My tutor Ann was really supportive, she got back to me quickly and helped me achieve an A! I have studied with ics and the tutor support was poor, spending a little more was well worth it.

I needed to get extra G.C.S.E. grades at C or above,especially maths. I am a busy Mum and decided the best way to do this was home study. O.O.L. were easy to deal with,explaining exactly what they required and in return what I would receive. The course was well set out and easy to follow and I passed at grade C last year.I was so impressed that I'm doing a History I.G.C.S.E. at the moment with them.The payment plan made things easier too. I'm tempted to try an English A'level with them next!!

I've successfully completed both an AS level Maths and an A level English Language with OOL. I was very impressed with the initial contact, administration, structure of the course and the tutorial support provided. I have already recommended them to several other people and will continue to do so.

When I first started the IGCSEs with Oxford Open Learning, I was not only nervous about going back into academia, as it had been some time since I had been in education, but also, perhaps even moreso, I was anxious about the idea of 'distance learning'. Also, due to the nature of the courses that I took, which were French and Spanish, I was concerned that such limited interaction would produce a less-than-desirable result. However, this was not so. As I went through the course, I quickly found my feet, as it were, and with the help of some excellent teachers, completed the syllabus with time to spare.

With regards to the content of the courses, I found that the lessons were very informative, extremely well written and forever interesting due to the variety of exercises within. The only thing with which I have ever really had a problem is many of the hyperlinks within the lessons seem to be broken. But, that being said, the content to which the hyperlinks lead can usually be found elsewhere.

Anyway, I will end with how I did!

When results day came round, naturally, I was very worried. But I can happily say that I completed the course with flying colours; achieving a grade A in Spanish and a grade B in French, and this whilst working part time as well!

when i first was enrolling i was abit weary about the level of support i would have as the subject i was going to study is not one for the light hearted and need proper dedication. But the level of support i receieved was fantastic, had my tutor to aid me and the online resource portal twig. it was really an experience and i have not long recieved my results which was an A!, well pleased and would like thank OOL :) highly recommend them.

Generally the course material was good (although errors were evident as explained below) but the tutor support is limited and not suitable for purpose.

I did one of the practice tests which was marked by my tutor. I found that one of the answers I had given was marked as incorrect when in fact it was correct. The tutor said this wasn't the case but the answer sheet she was using was wrong. Having an error occur is one thing but she then explained why my answer was wrong by essentially making something up - something that does not fit in with the scientific theory that the question related to! Either the tutor lacks the requires intelligence or required subject knowledge to hold that role or there is a distinct lack or effort and/or enthusiasm. Neither of which are acceptable. For this reason alone I would not use this service again.
