DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! My friend and I rented a car from their Queenstown location in November 2023 and 4 months later still haven’t gotten our $1000 bond back…we have called and enquired probably 30 times at this point and the men who work there refuse to help us. They have essentially stolen our money and are refusing to give it back. No one who works there speaks English properly which makes it hard and they are extremely rude and unempathetic. This is the most frustrating customer service experience we have ever had!! Apparently this has happened to other people as well so hopefully this review can stop more people from making the same mistake….😡😡😡

Car was smelly and dirty and old. Blamed a stone chip on the windscreen on us without being able to provide proof. Looks like a trick they use regularly as other customers also reported the same thing. Deposit is held for weeks and weeks. Avoid at all cost.

Great experience from go to whoa. Can't fault them! Late arrival in Auckland, went to the airport info desk where the helpful staff called Discount's after hours line. Prompt pick up from airport stop just a short walk from terminal. Lovely staff arranged SIM card for my phone and directed me to my car and Airbnb. Terrific little car, well presented, no mechanical problems, economical. Return was just as easy with prompt transfer to airport. Definitely recommend their service.

You get what you pay for. We rented a people mover from Queenstown for three weeks. Paid about half what other rental companies were charging. The car was older and had a few dents and a few stains on the seats and carpets, but that was perfect for the hiking and traveling we did. Car went well, no issues at all. We always got a fast response when calling or emailing. The airport pick up and drop off was smooth. We did not have to make any changes or request anything unusual so did not have to test the limits of customer service. Would use them again if I needed a car for a long hire in Queenstown.

Stay away from this company!! Car was absolutely filthy, car seat for my son I requested hadn’t been cleaned for a very long time and was so unhygienic!! GPS didn’t even work and was charged for it and never refunded despite multiple calls and emails!! Took $1000 off my credit card as a purchase instead of a pre authorisation for the bond and took ages to refund it!!
No one cares or replies to calls or emails and zero care factor when anything goes wrong!! Would rather walk or catch public transport than use this company ever again!!

Picked the car up from and returned to their compound. Staff were pleasant and helpfull, car well used but reliable and suited our purpose perfectly. No crazy deposit required on creditcard either. Would use again.

Although cheap, avoid. Very old and worn out car. And another time (feb 2023) left me stranded despite having booked !! Did not reply on phone (and answer phone full !!). They Do not respond to mail. Never apologised or followed up even after leaving me stranded on arrivals ! Very poor

Terrible. The car was dirty, looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for a year. It smelt bad, service from staff very un helpful . Paid a premium for a car that shouldn’t be a rental car. Brakes unsafe.

NZ Discount Car Rentals is unreliable & not to be trusted. 4+ months after rental, they sent a nonsensical invoice & took money out of my account! Communication has been unprofessional & unhelpful.

Car in bad shape. Was ripped off with the insurance that I brought from the booking site which is used to advertise them. Had to pay twice on insurance. Scuff marks everywhere and the car hadn’t been vacuumed. Pictures to prove

Overall great experience. Was concerned having read other reviews but took a punt. They seem to have partnered with other companies which is a good thing.. We had a out of hours pick up but got collected by van that also went to the long term car park (so frequent) where our car was waiting. The car wasn't brand new but drove well and completely met our needs. I was able to easily add myself as a driver texting the contact person. And dropping off the car I called someone who arrived straight away and drove straight to the airport.. No waiting around. Highly recommend

I had to cancel due to my flight from Australia being canceled due to Covid. I booked with this company as it clearly stated on the website that if canceled more than 72 hours prior to collection, they will refund the money, minus an approximate 5% admin fee.
I emailed the company and advised of the cancelation to which I received an email stating “Sorry to hear that , as our current policy , we could not process refund from our branch, but we keep credit under your name NZD -$336.81. You are welcome to redeem out the amount for future booking.”
I replied and said “Your policy states that you CAN receive a refund if cancelled within 72 hours (attached). I do not want the credit on the account as my flights to NZ are cancelled.”
I received no reply despite sending several emails.
I then called the Christchurch branch and they asked how I got the number?! (From my confirmation email). I asked why I was not being given my refund and why after several emails I’d been refused a reply. I was told that “I spoke to head office and they said we were not able to provide the refund.” I didn’t bother continuing.
I called the Auckland office and asked the same thing. I was met by a very rude man who refused to help after I said I’d send him my confirmation email with the terms and conditions. I also mentioned what was written on the website right in front of me.
I would like to mention that the woman from the Christchurch office was polite.
I then decided to take this to the Facebook chat and said “Why are you refusing a refund when your website CLEARLY states i am eligible? I'll be contacting ombudsman and leaving reviews if this is not finalised this week,” whilst attaching a picture of the terms and conditions from my email.
I was asked to email their booking email to fix this up. I advised I had done that and they’re not helping.
The following day in the chat they asked for my booking number and email address and later that evening a refund had been given.
I then proceeded to say thank you to whoever had helped me to which they replied “Pls give me a good review instead of bad one. It suffers everyone in the COVID.”
I said “I just want to know why everyone refused my refund even though it clearly states I was entitled to one.” I never received a response. I then asked the same via email twice and have been refused any answer.
Edit: Also got a Facebook message from them calling me miserable, etc after posting the review.

The car was ok but the problem is that we rent the car and pay for the insurance online, when we arrived there the guy from the reception asked us to pay for a different insurance but he never explained why, was difficult to understand and he kept saying that we needed to pay. Finally we pay because we didn't want to keep loosing our time and he said that we can call to the online service where we book and ask for the money of the insurance back. We never understand why, I can't complaint for the car or anything else but there is a problem in the communication and the guy asking for more money was not a great start for our trip.

Do not use this company under any circumstances. So good to deal with when we made our booking we paid in full rather than just a deposit. All down hill from that point. Covid-19 meant our flight was cancelled. I rang during lockdown to cancel the booking.
I spoke to owner Cooper Li personally who said no problem and my payment would refunded within a couple of days. That was more than 7 weeks ago. No payment and the run around from his staff. I spoke to Cooper Li today and he informs me that no refund will be coming but I can have a credit. This is in contradiction to his word and the terms and conditions on my rental agreement. I have placed the matter in the hands of my lawyer today. You have been warned. Need a rental car? Look elsewhere.

Very friendly Staff like a family business. Being with the company for over 4 years now and always find easy to deal with. quick response and pick up from airport. Absolutely the best value rental car in terms of rates and services.

Car and service was great. 10mins from the airport in a van. Prompt pickup at airport.

Rented a car from Christchurch but due to a family bereavement had to return home early to Ireland so asked could we return the car early to Queenstown airport. Absolutely got zero help or understanding from the car company and was told it would between 600 and 1000 dollars to return car early. Appalling customer service in the circumstances
