The worst choice I have ever
Made. Gave the a very accurate inventory but they underestimate cubic feet to give you a great price quote. Then they show up and tell you immediately it will cost much more. Didn’t bring a truck with enough space. Cost me at least $7k more than any other National moving company. Horrible customer service. They just unloaded last night and had damaged several pieces of furniture and one mattress was completely dirty. They lost the hardware for some furniture so they had to run to Home Depot to buy it. Just stay away. Company that moved us seemed to be Evergreen van lines but who knows for sure

TLDR:

Move from San Francisco Bay Area to Chicago. Loaded our stuff on 4/26. We were told our goods will get there around May 10th at the latest by Norther. Received our goods on 6/4. Surprise and hidden costs along the way when it’s really too late to do anything. Quote includes no liability insurance. They damaged many large item and many smaller items due to poor handling, loading, and storing. They ruined our new walls and floors while moving in. We’ve hired a lawyer. That should say it all. They tried to prevent us from writing a review by offering us $600, but we declined so we could warn others. AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Company with deceptive business practices and untrustworthy consultants, with an abysmal customer service team. Do not trust them with your life's possessions. You will most likely not see it for weeks, nor have the insurance on it, AND still be paying an equivalent amount of money that you would've otherwise paid a more trustworthy company. AND be treated like garbage by both Northern and whatever horrible 2-star BBB rated moving company they decide to contract.

Specific Details:

1. Incredibly deceptive consultants - they will low ball your estimate to get you through the door. Our consultant Dean refused to do an in-person tour or even a video tour. They put the onus on you to report every single item you have, so they can claim ignorance and raise your price at the last minute (our estimate went from $6000 to almost $14k). Your quote DOES NOT include liability protection.

2. Northern isn’t really a moving company, they’re just middlemen who contract it to a 3rd party company. We got Moveon Moving (BBB rating 2.7 out of 5) - a company who showed up with the full liability protection crossed off even though the federal law requires them to offer it; they showed up 2 hours late to do a full service pack/load of a 2000 feet home with a garage that is supposed to take 2 days to pack/load. Thank goodness we had time and had already packed 90% of goods. Instead of packing on Friday 4/23 and loading on Saturday 4/24, they packed/loaded Friday and Saturday and had to come back Monday to take the rest with a different truck.

3. After the experience with the loaders, reached out to Northern with detailed list of issues and they refused to respond. They finally got a lawyer who offered us $600 as compensation, but we had to sign a disclosure saying we weren't going to write any negative reviews. This is probably why this company has much better ratings than it should. We told them thanks but no thanks.

4. Then the fun started: our goods sat in a warehouse until END OF MAY. We lived in an empty house with a 10-month old, meaning no crib or baby gear. In late May, they finally gave us a delivery date of 6/4 . They tell us they have to charge us extra $1200 for a shuttle. We asked about the shuttle before loading, and both the Northern rep and the MoveOn said that they looked at our address on GPS and it looks like our complex should accommodate a shuttle. We emailed them when we learned this. MoveOn first said it’s their policy that big trucks don’t go in the city and then they quickly changed their story when we asked why we weren't told of this BEFORE. Now the story became oh, it’s because your complex doesn’t allow it. Our total cost went from an estimated 6k to nearly $14,000.

5. Day of the move: the driver parks about 20-30 minutes away from our residence to load a smaller truck. They driver told us he’s the only one from MoveOn, the rest of the team was hired from a Facebook group. Basically, amateurs and not professional movers – and it showed. They gouged our wall badly, put some large dings by the stairs. The wood floor was damaged due to not using any protection. They get the first load unloaded, then drive 40 minute round trip with a new load.At approximately 8pm, driver tells us that he and the hired helpers had to leave. Driver had to drive back with a different load the next day. So we learned the real reason for the shuttle: so the big rig could get loaded with a new load while our stuff got unloaded at the same time! Again, realize that this was a full service move – meaning they were suppose to unload, move boxes/furniture into the correct room, and unpack boxes if we requested. None of that happened.

6. We are exploring legal options to recover our money.

this is the worst service ever! I ended up paying twice the price and felt I had no choices because of my move deadlines. I also ended paying for the delivery and no free storage was offered! No services when I tried to call to solve my issues. NO one would answer. DO NOT USE THEM!

Using Northern Moving Systems was a terrible mistake. They assured us that they would coordinate and provide support every step of the way for our move from LA to CA, but as soon as the movers arrived, they did nothing to coordinate logistically whatsoever. We were left to work directly with their contracted moving company, leaving us wondering why exactly we were paying Northern Movers. Our assigned rep from Northern, Neil, was very difficult to get a hold of, and when we raised service concerns, customer service NEVER reached out to us.

The moving company they hired required cash or money order, but no one told us until our furniture was loaded onto the truck.

They did not deliver our stuff until nearly a week after the "promised" date. We had to work with the hired movers, not Northern to get any delivery estimate at all.

The total bill was twice the quoted price, though everything moved was included in the quote.

We never received any follow up or communication from customer service at any point.

This company is garbage. Please, for your own sake, hire anyone else.

Fast and efficient. It was a bit more expensive than I wanted, but they were upfront about all the charges and I didn't have to pull teeth to get the ultimate cost. The move itself was very fast and the movers were friendly. All in all, it was pretty reasonable and I would recommend their service again.

an absolute scam!

DO NOT use this company, I have been battling for a refund for months to no avail. I caught a customer service person using a fake image and name and he also told me I need to resolve this so he can "look good" to the company. Told me I would have to wait on a refund (that I can only get through venmo?) because he placed a food order at Chilis....this place took my money and they were going to steal my things and i've caught them in lie after lie after using a fake profile and claiming to know NOTHING about my account yet calling me on my cell phone and leaving voicemails saying this guy NEEDS his job and can he pay me off via venmo to take all my reviews down. check yelp for my pictures of their terrible correspondence.

Northern Moving Systems has scammed me $584.74 as my deposit. On December 3, 2020, my husband and myself went to Barstow, California from Montgomery,Illinois to pick up my grieving aunt who recently lost her husband to cancer. On December 4, Northern Moving Systems was scheduled to pick up my aunt stuff from Barstow, California to Montgomery, Illinois. This company never showed up! No calls, no answer to our calls, no text, no emails, no communication whatsoever. They just decided not to show up. We missed our flight back to illinois. We stayed there several days, has to call off work, stayed extra days in a hotel, hoping and waiting for some form of communication from Northern Moving Systems to no avail. We went back to Illinois on December 7. My aunt has no choice but to leave most of her sentimental belongings in Barstow because of this company’s negligence. I filed a dispute with my credit card company and filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. Northern Moving Systems is the worst moving company. If this company scammed me $584.74, how much more thousands of dollars worth of business transactions from others. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from Northern Moving Systems. I simply don’t want you to experience what we have been through with this company. Thank you.

Used Northern Moving System to move my items out. Due to COVID; we were not allowed in to pack, so we had to depend on these guys. Northern Moving System and team were absolutely amazing. They packed everything carefully; loaded it expeditiously and brought it to our home and unpacked it. Everything was in perfect order. These guys are top of my list for moving. Could not have had a better experience!

Absolutely horrible experience with this company. The moving company stole $7,000.00 worth of my jewelry out of my bathroom and also lost a box containing nearly $10,000.00 worth of my ski clothes. When I filed a police report, they contacted the movers and found out these guys were hired off of Craigslist that same day and paid cash. The company has offered no compensation and they don't even have an insurance policy in place. They have been quite unresponsive and offered no solution except that there is "no proof" that my stuff was stolen. I sent pictures, I have receipts. I don't know what more proof they need. I highly recommend against EVER hiring this company. They cannot be trusted and are not even BBB accredited.

Stay away at all costs! This company is shady and rude beyond belief. I called asking for a quote and was called back by Mike Cohen. He promised me everything under the sun - super low rates, quality control, free 30 day storage. And his price was more than half of competitors. He just needed a deposit since my "winter deal" would expire in the next 24 hours. After sensing this was just too good to be true, I did some extensive research. Most of the online reviews that are 5 star are fake. Probably employees of the company. Look at the Yelp reviews - the company is based in Tulsa and all the reviews praising this company are also in Tulsa. But then look at the 1 star reviews - they all had a nightmare experience. I'm a professional web developer and can very easily run a program to spot fake reviews.

But weren't they rated the #1 moving company in 2020? Nope. This website is just some landing page they threw up themselves. That "consumer affairs" company doesn't even exist. The domain was just bought last year. I've worked in marketing and development for 15 years and know when a company is being shady.

I called Mike to let him explain and he was fast to come up with objections to my issues with them. But I know when I am being "sold" vs being helped. Every other moving company wanted no deposit and was pretty straight forward with me. Mike was about as slick as them come. And when I brought my reservations to him he said "so what other company is so good then?" And I even calmly explained why his sales and marketing process was misleading - he just got angry and said "i have way more sales and marketing experience than you!!!'....and then hung up the phone.

Michael from the Northern Moving Systems Tulsa office quoted me a price of $7,200.00 to move my furniture from Connecticut to Missouri on 9-27-20.
They had Prudential Movers out of NJ pick up my furniture. After loading 300 cu ft. onto the truck. The mover told me that it was not all going to fit. The price of the move then jumped to $12,200.00 (or a $5,000.00 increase)!
I signed the contract under duress at that moment. Prudential off loaded my furniture to 1st National Van Lines of New York City. On 12-2-20 I paid them $11.200.00 they said they gave me a $1,000.00 discount. But that was "only" if I signed their "non intent" agreement to not turn them in anywhere which I refuse to do.
So to this day they hold my furniture as a "HOSTAGE LOAD". If you are scammed by a furniture company like I was. Be sure to turn them in here!

Now they will not even verify what city my furniture is being stored in, nor give me the key. They say that I must sign a form first saying that I received the furniture, and that I have inspected it. Neither of which I can attest to.
If you do business with this company you will be "VERY" sorry. Be forewarned. I turned them into the FMCSA today, to hopefully get my furniture back someday.

Only those who already tried to move their office, will understand how hard and complicated job it is. I was looking for professional help and after reading all reviews and feedbacks. Hired Northern Moving System to move my office. First, they have a good team, easy to work with and came right on time. Second, everything was wrapped up and moved without any damage. They even picked up staff which wasn't in the initial agreement. They made my moving experience fun and easy!

We moved from Illinois to Florida. We were going to do a uhaul, but didn't have much time to do this ourselves and get our cars down too. I called this company and spoke with a salesman and made it clear we needed our things by Sunday, which he said was fine. When I was patched to Quality at the end of the call the lady said it could be 7-21 days. I then said I needed to cancel very adamantly. She then patched me back to the salesman who proceeded to tell me that they say that because of law requirements but it will be there by Sunday.

I was so scared after that the next day that I had my fiancee call this man and confirm this. He once again proceeded to tell him the same thing he told me.
Come to find out, the 7-21 days was indeed the correct time frame. This employee lied to us for a sale. We came down to be here for delivery and now have had to spend tons of money on a hotel that accommodates our dog because we will not have our things for at least a week past what we were told. I have had to take extra vacation days from work.

This company keeps saying they don't guarentee days. We now know that, but it is not the customer's responsibility to decipher which employees you hire to represent your company are telling us the truth.

We could have done multiple other things to get our stuff here in time. This employee lied to us for a sale and has cost us over a thousand dollars in the process through this hotel stay and has caused so much stress. This has taken all the excitement of our dream move away and left us angry and exhausted.

It got even worse upon delivery. We paid for a service for them to put everything back together. They did not. They took everything apart to where it was almost unrecognizable. The boxes were ripped open and smashed. Our standing speaker had a broken leg and our expensive mattress topper is stained and ripped. It is ridiculous that I'm told to take down this formal issue with the BBB when this company has done nothing to make things right. I feel as though the company is using this as an excuse not to resolve this. They not only lied but they broke some of our things and didn't deliver their promised services. After spending thousands on a place to stay when we had nothing because of their lies and having another smack in the face by bringing our things torn up and obviously thrown around and not put back together.

We absolutely had an enjoyable experience move with Northern Moving System. They guys were punctual, rather actually early to pick up our stuff. We moved from a 4 bed home and the workers were just terrific. They took care of my belongings with as much care as they would their own. The entire job was the smoothest I have ever seen. They did more than I expected. I was super satisfied with their performance. I would recommend them and suggest their name to all for sure. So yes Northern Moving System you are a very cool company.

I had to unexpectedly move from Florida to Texas and Northern Moving Systems were an excellent choice to help me! I was so stressed at the thought of moving cross-country but they made it so easy. Their customer service exceeded my expectations. They were helpful during every part of the process and were able to answer all my questions and concerns. They were able to move everything I needed in my 3 bedroom house for only $3500. They made everything so easy for me, I barely had to lift a finger. Overall they were cost friendly, efficient and helpful. I will definitely be using them again if I need to move! I would highly recommend them to anyone needing a great moving company.

Frequent mover, I usually don't use moving companies but needed to due to a busy schedule. Northern Moving made my transition to a new home so much better. The customer service was great and they put a tremendous amount of effort into ensuring I was satisfied. The prices are very reasonable and I would 100% recommend them to anyone looking to use a moving service.

With the loss of my job , this has been a tough year so far for my family. I had to downsize from a 6 bedroom home to a 3 bedroom home. With 4 children, this was difficult. These gentlemen were kind, courteous, and professional. They were delightful to talk to and not a single item was broken. If you need professional movers, look no farther than these lovely people.

I was a bit skeptical about this company at first, and it's most likely because in the past I had a really bad experience with a moving company that had employees that decided to break and steal some of my things. However, Northern Moving Systems restored my faith that good moving companies DO exist! They were super professional and actually cared about my things (almost more than I did!) and that is such a rare find.
