BEWARE: Misleading & deceptive conduct!
My husband and I entered into the purchase of our wedding rings from the owner of Me & Audrey, Rikke in December 2015 which was to include a personal engraving on both rings. We initially paid a negotiated deposit, with final payment due at final collection of both rings. At this time we were in no rush for the rings to be made as our wedding is in May 2016, however we later required them to be completed by January 2016. At the conclusion of the transaction, when I attended Rikke's shop to collect my finished ring, Rikke requested that we pay an additional 500 kroner in addition to what was agreed to which she says was for:
1. The cost of engraving our rings especially since the engraving was done on my engagement ring and not my wedding ring we purchased from her jewellery shop; and
2. The additional cost involved in many of her employees and/or contractors rushing to prepare the engraving and finalisation of the rings earlier than expected.
A wedding ring purchase is a special event in one's life. I paid the additional 500 kroner and at the time of collecting my ring, because I was too shocked and upset to do anything else. I had anticipated that the collection of my wedding ring would be a happy occasion, not one where I was made to feel cheated and taken advantage of.
At the time of entering into the transaction, Rikke advised us that there was normally an additional cost of engraving, however this would be included in the total cost of rings (part of the total deal and a token of goodwill). We all decided that my wedding ring was too narrow and so the engraving should be done on my engagement ring which was purchased elsewhere. At this time Rikke did not advise that there would be an additional cost for engraving another jeweller's ring. Therefore, at no time did Rikke advise us of any additional cost for engraving.
Towards the end of December 2015, we asked Rikke if it was possible to complete the rings sooner than expected due to the fact that we would be legally married in early January 2016. I delivered my engagement ring that day for engraving. At that time, Rikke advised us that she could make no promises or guarantees about the rings being ready on time due to the public holidays around the Christmas/New Year period. However, at no time did Rikke advise us of any additional costs for completing the rings earlier.
If we had been advised us of any additional cost we wouldn’t have asked Rikke to prepare the rings earlier, instead we would have been happy to wait until they were ordinarily ready.
Given the above, I feel that Rikke and Me & Audrey has not acted in good faith with us in the purchase of our rings. At no time did Rikke advise us (the customer) of any additional cost. I don’t think it is fair to add additional costs to a transaction that the customer is not aware of. Consumer laws in Denmark and most other countries state that the price of a product or service cannot change unless the customer is made aware of it and has agreed in advance to this additional cost.
500 kroner might might not seem like a lot of money to most, but it is to us. Besides that, it is the principle of the matter. I encourage you to boycott this jewellery shop in your future jewellery purchases, otherwise you may also be taken advantage of as we were.
