Shopify shut down my website on 12/5/23…
Shopify shut down my website on 12/5/23 after notifying me of potential copyright infringements. I provided the documentation immediately, as requested (invoices), showing that I had legally purchased those products and there was no copyright infringement. After six days of hearing nothing back from them they sent an email indicating that I only sent documentation for Disney and not Marvel and Harry Potter. This was a complete lie; all the files were zipped together when I sent them. The customer service is non-existent. All the support "advisors" could tell me was that my documents were being reviewed. There is no transparency at all. It is completely unacceptable to shut down a business website while they determine if there are copyright infringements. I would have gladly removed the products until they could get their act together, but that was not an option. I would not recommend Shopify for this reason. They have total control of your data, don't have enough staff to provide assistance or answers and don't care how it affects you or your lifestyle. A company of this size should have enough people reviewing the documentation so that it doesn't take more than 24 hours, and they should never shutdown a website until they know for sure that there is copyright infringement. If anyone else has had this issue with Shopify, I would like to hear about your experience. I am considering filing a class action lawsuit against them.
