DO NOT BUY FROM MANSFIELD MOTOR HOMES…
DO NOT BUY FROM MANSFIELD MOTOR HOMES LTD!
We were really excited to buy our first motorhome, a 6 berth one, from this company. It was a bit old, from 2005, but we thought we could fix it up and make it nice.
The person who sold it to us, Neil, said it needed some work but was in good condition overall.
We had checked the MOT history online and saw some things that needed to be fixed, so we got him to lower the price.
We were happy with the deal and drove home, looking forward to all the fun adventures we would have.
We know little about motorhomes but did what we thought were pretty thorough checks. We noticed some damp in the bathroom which we expected and a few other faults that we were happy to accept due to the age of it.
But on the way home, it started raining really hard. We could hardly see out of the windscreen.
We didn't think it was a big deal until we stopped.
That's when we noticed the water started running in from above the front part of the motorhome. We went to check in the top cabin behind a load of cushions that had been put up there to cover it all and found a terrible mess inside. It was all wet, mouldy, and disgusting. We felt so stupid that we hadn't noticed it before.
The wallpaper was peeling off, and the wood frame was rotten because of the long term water damage. He had painted over the mould to cover it up and make it look nice.
We took pictures of the state of it right away and sent them to Neil, telling him that the motorhome was not fit for purpose, and we wanted to return it.
But Neil didn't care. Unbelievably, he tried to say that we caused the damage by taking off the wallpaper, so it was down to us and that it was sold as seen and therefore it was tough.
We were devastated. We spoke to trading standards and citizens who told us that it was irrelevant what was written on the invoice, under the consumers rights act of 2015, any vehicle had to be fit for purpose and as this clearly wasn't then you were within your legal rights to request your money back in full.
We felt so disappointed and fooled. He lists himself as a motorhome restorer and knows full well the issues with that van and also knows he is in the wrong. We trusted him at his word when he told us it was a great van for the money and would do us well for a few years.
Now we realise he is a liar and just wants to cause us as much distress and hassle as he can.
Well he will see that we will not take this lying down. We have already started the legal proceedings and sent him the relevant paperwork necessary to begin our claim.
We have been advised to get a full written report and habitation check which will help our case. We will also be suing him for full costs including the price for the van, time off work, stress and the habitation report.
The worst thing is he knows we have a young family and how much this meant to us
He knows that he sold us a piece of crap and refuses to do anything about it.
We can't use the motorhome because it's too damp and unsafe. The bed is not even safe for our three children. It's a big mess. Later, we had an expert look at the motorhome, and they said the mould had been painted over to hide the real problems. It made us even more upset.
If you are thinking of buying anything from Mansfield Motors - think again he is a liar and a con artist, and we fell for it, unfortunately. Don't do the same as we did.
