Less Features on Plus Plan

I've written a review before on Office Timeline (now Lucen) and again it's incredibly frustrating to find features that I use now as part of my Plus plan will no longer be available to me when I eventually update the software.

Whilst the software is useful, improvements have been made throught with improved UI etc, responsive customer service. I can't really fault these things, but the constant diminishing of features being hidden behind the most expensive plan is annoying.

First, excel refresh was taken and hidden behind the top tier and now I find other features have moved behind the most expensive tier - the project performance tracking features which overlay progress bars and I've only noticed this as it's due time for my renewal.

Please don't make this about to improve customer experience, you've noted down which features people use and have hidden them behind the top tier.

Regarding the project performance tracking features you mentioned, specifically the progress bar overlays, we'd like to take a closer look. Our understanding is that this functionality should not have moved to the Expert plan, so we'd like to investigate what you're seeing.

Pure crap

Pure crap. there is no sync between the Powerpoint plug-in and the web app, plus you can't import Powerpoint. So you have to export to excel, then import to the web version. The expert version is so slow it's completely un-useable. Unless all users are premium you get a water mark on the web app, and unfortunately even once all users are premium you can't remove it without completely rebuilding the project. Lucen obviously has put more time in to monetizing the product than making sure it remains a value added product.

Thanks for laying this out, and sorry it hasn't been the experience we want for you.
A bit of context on the sync point. The PowerPoint add-in and the Online edition are two separate products, so they don't sync directly, and neither one exports a PowerPoint file you can pull into the other. Improving how the two work together is on our roadmap, so it's something we're actively thinking about. In the meantime, both work with Excel and other project formats, and since they share the same underlying structure, timelines, milestones, start and end dates, exporting to Excel and importing into the Online edition carries everything across intact. It's an extra step, I know, but it's the reliable way to move work between them today.
On Expert, you're right, it's been sluggish lately and that's on us. The good news is we've addressed it in our latest release, version 14.8, so an update should make a real difference if you're on an older build.
The watermark you're describing doesn't sound right to me. If you wouldn't mind sending a quick note to timeline-support@lucensoftware.com mentioning this review, we'd like to be able to look into it further and get it sorted.

Office timeline expert slowed the whole program

Office timeline pro worked great, but when we upgraded to Expert the program runs so slow and sometime crashes to the point when sometimes I avoid using it.

Really slow software

Really slow software. Not user-friendly. Making changes to the timelines is too manual - tasks need to be more automated.

pretty good

It s a pretty handy tool, however I struggle sometimes to fit the timeline I ve created in a PPT slide for example...We often have to cxreate a screenshot of the schedule prior to insert it in a PPT page.

An excellent tool for visually compelling timelines and plans

Office Timeline is an excellent tool for producing visually compelling timelines and plans. The presentation capabilities are the strongest suit of this PowerPoint Add-On. It is a valuable tool but does take some time to learn how to operate in order to generate the display qualities that you desire.
One major limitation which should be understood is the page sizing which is restricted by the MS PowerPoint page orientation / parameters.

Great experience

Once you get used to it, it is quite easy to use. it looks great for HL timelines. Only downfall is the amount of info that you can fit on a slide, which is a PowerPoint issue, not a timeline issue. Very happy over all.

Great point on the slide space — while PowerPoint slides do have their limits, resizing the slide dimensions natively in PowerPoint can provide a lot more room to work with and fit more content. The templates are not user friendly

The templates are not user friendly. Also I find it difficult to move the plan towards the top once it's completed. I would just like to move the whole thing around without having to re-do the boxes and everything else. It quite time consuming.

Download and setup was simple.

I used Office Timeline at my previous job and have gotten use to the differences between editing an Office Timeline slide and a regular PowerPoint slide. Once you are comfortable with that it is a breeze to setup and maintain. I love the new features, with actual vs. planned and the timeline edit is much improved over a couple of years ago. Also, so many new templates to choose from. My co-workers at my new job are very impressed with the professional timelines I am able to produce.

Mac Compatibility

We'd like to shed some light on the compatibility side — we do support Mac, however the add-in is built for Windows only, so the Online version would be the right fit for you.

We also noticed you've been trying the Online version and ran into an issue — we're already working on getting that sorted so you can get back on track.

The Edit timeline feature is actually…

The Edit timeline feature is actually so good. you drag things around and the dates just... update. dependencies follow along, you can see planned vs actual, critical path is right there. And you can add a new swimlane project directly on the timeline which sounds small but saves me every single day. not much else to say, it just works.

Smartsheet works great with Office Timeline

I've mainly used the Smartsheet for tracking items/initiatives and the Office Timeline for the presentation part. Having them connected simplifies things and makes sense. I just pull it in and with a bit of time, tweaking the colors, formatting, and voilà the slides look right an ready to go.

It's one of those things you don't really think about once it's set-up, saving you time throughout the day.
