My experience of a 3,488-graft FUE procedure at Harley Street Hospital
I underwent a 3,488-graft FUE hair transplant at Harley Street Hospital in July 2025. The procedure was arranged through Want Hair and cost £3,194 in total.
Before treatment, I had been very clear that my principal concern was my crown. I had also specifically asked about the surgeon's involvement before booking and was reassured in writing about the surgical role.
On the day, a treatment design was produced and 3,488 grafts were recorded. During the procedure, I was told that no more grafts could be fitted into the crown and that the remaining grafts would therefore be placed further forward to create density.
Three technicians were substantially involved in carrying out the transplant. I do not recall being clearly informed beforehand that this would be the delivery model, being told who they were, or being given information about their qualifications and experience.
I have photographs taken immediately after leaving the clinic and during the following days, when the recipient sites were still clearly visible. These provide a contemporaneous record of where the transplant was actually performed.
I repeatedly raised concerns as the transplant matured and followed the advice to wait rather than judge the result prematurely. More than a year later, I remain extremely dissatisfied with the crown result.
I made a formal complaint and requested a refund or compensation. None has been offered.
I am now obtaining independent professional assessments in writing regarding the treatment planning, graft distribution and outcome. I have also referred my concerns regarding the doctor involved to the General Medical Council. I am not suggesting the GMC has reached any conclusion; I have referred the matter so that the appropriate regulator can consider it.
I have retained extensive supporting evidence, including contractual documents, WhatsApp correspondence, the treatment design/clinical record, pre-operative photographs, immediate post-operative photographs, current photographs and complaint correspondence.
My advice to anyone considering a hair transplant is to get clear written answers before treatment about who will perform each stage, whether technicians will be involved, what their qualifications are, and exactly how the grafts are intended to be distributed.
Based on my treatment, the result and the way my concerns have subsequently been handled, I would not choose Harley Street Hospital for any services of any kind in the future.
