Holly Cottage, Buxton: A Good Clean Would Not Go Amiss!!
Pretty unsatisfactory. We stayed in Holly Cottage, Buxton...the photos made the place look cosy and inviting, and it could have been with some TLC and pride.
Whilst I appreciate that the cottage is small, there is no closet or drawers for clothes in the small bedroom, and the room is so tiny there is no room for the suitcase either! The stairs are an accident waiting to happen, in that there is no landing at all, so you're on the stairs as soon as you open either of the bedroom doors! As the bathroom is downstairs, it's best to keep the light on if you need to get up for the loo in the middle of the night!
My biggest gripes though concern the facilities, all of which left a lot to be desired. In the kitchen, there was no proper frying pan, only a very large saute pan, and a rather dirty grill pan (neither suitable for frying or scrambling eggs), and some pretty dirty-looking oven trays. There were 2 obviously unwashed mugs at the back of the cupboard..disgusting! Only one tea towel was provided. The washing machine is in a cupboard...great idea in a small kitchen, but the cupboard door sticks on the floor and can't be fully opened.
In the bathroom there was an extractor fan which was absolutely full of greasy dust, and a mirror that hadn't seen a cloth for ages. The window had no blind (the fixings were there, but no blind). The loo roll holder had an almost finished loo roll - there was only one spare roll.
Finally, in the front room, the 6 lamp light fitting had only one working bulb, and none of the wall lights worked at all.
We had booked for a week, but stayed only one night...what a big disappointment after looking forward to our holiday in Derbyshire.
