My situation:
With the re-election of Donald Trump as president in the United States, my partner and I worried what that would mean for our safety, especially considering I am transgender and have chronic conditions that need medical care. As time went on, our fears became increasingly concrete: early in March of 2025, my partner lost his civil society job as a result of actions carried out by the Trump administration. All the while, multiple states began passing laws that either restricted, or outright banned access to healthcare for transgender individuals. As well as numerous laws being passed or debated that are drastically negatively impacting the safety of so many people (of all genders and orientations, nationalities, and backgrounds). That is when we decided to move to a country where our human rights are not in question.
