Unacceptable statement notification

I infrequently use Home Trust Visa but did use it on a recent trip. Today I got a notification that "your statement is now available to view online". Today is January 30. The statement was generated January 9. Payment due date is January 30. No prior notifications were sent about my statement being available so the first time they tell me my statement is ready is THREE WEEKS AFTER IT WAS GENERATED. Now my payment will be late, my credit rating will be decreased and Home Trust makes money on my late payment fees. My next email to Home Trust will be to cancel our card.

Here is Home Trust's reply to my complaint. No offer to assist with my late payment or anything. If they knew there was a problem WHY DIDN'T THEY NOTIFY CUSTOMERS?????????

Statement alerts should be generated when statements are ready. Home Trust is aware of the delay with the notifications this month and is prioritizing its resolution to prevent future occurrences. We extend our apologies for any frustration and inconvenience caused.

Chasing away Customers?

Went to purchase something and used Home Trust card but it was was rejected at the store. Was told to phone Home Trust to sort it out. I have always paid my Visa bills off fully for the last few years to avoid the high interest charges. I had made my last payment as usual to fully pay off the bill. But when entering payment amount I made a mistake and there was a few cents still owing. So when my next billing came for 11 cents I just ignored it and couldn't be bothered going online to pay a few pennies bill and also wondered what the Interest charges would be for the few cents still owing? Home Trust explained to me that they had blocked the card purchase of $85 and froze the account at the time of purchase until the full overdue payment of --- in this case a few cents--- was fully paid off. Was told it did not matter the amount owing just the fact that my account was flagged as being overdue. Every other credit card company that I have occasionally missed a payment to over the years was quite willing to keep charging 28% interest on the balance but obviously not Home Trust. It seems Home Trusts policy is that if I had even paid 1 cent of the recent 11 cent bill, that would have been enough to keep my account from being suspended. So if you miss a payment even by mistake it seems Home Trust will suspend your account for any amount and it does not matter what your previous history of payments has been to them. So I now charge most of my purchases using other credit cards who I have found have a more reasonable response towards suspending customers cards especially when customers are owing less than the price of a postage stamp.

Absolutely garbage in every category.

Absolutely garbage in every category. Customer service representatives are either not properly trained, incompetent or just don't care. They either takes weeks to reply to emails and voice-mails or they don't reply at all, even with email reminders.
They operate like it's 1983. They only got online service a few months ago and you can only see you mortgage information. You cannot may payments, increase your payments or anything. Every is done by phone or email or Canada Post to which they take neglect to respond to. When you do happen to talk to someone, they never have any answers. They always have to check with they superiors. Being frustrated with this mortgage company is an understatement.

Customer Service in the gutter

I don’t understand whats happened with Home trust!! they were always so good, professional customer service agents, I had just called yesterday and today and 4 out of 4 was terrible, they sounded extremely apathetic. One girl said her supervisor will return in 3days.
1/2 had incredibly poor comprehension, and listening skills, it was incredibly difficult to get anything across.

Unethical business practices

We got Home Trust's Visa card to use outside Canada, because they charge no more than Visa's fee for currency conversion. Both our income and our assests are in the top 2% to 3%, we have no debt, and we have never caused a hint of trouble when decades ago we did, yet they refused to give us a limit higher than $4000. For travelling this is often inadequate, but we could prepay some of our charges. Now, however, they are ignoring our prepayment when calculating our credit limit. They no longer tell us that we may not exceed $4000 of charges at any time, they tell us that we may not exceed $4000 throughout any month, even if the prepayment means we actually owe them nothing or they owe money to us.

This change contravenes standard commercial practice that, if it was ever announced, was announced so obscurely that a normally assiduous customer would not see it. None of this is ethical business practice. Beware!

Every Time Locked out

Every Time Locked out
I like to check my balance, payments and charges everyday. Every time I try to log in, by PC or mobile device, my password gets locked out. I cannot reset remotely as 'too many attempts" warning displays. I then have to call customer service for a manual reset.
I ask how to correct this problem and they can only offer that I call in each time. Inconvenient and Unacceptable, I am cancelling my card.

Constant alerts and payment denied issues when paying for foreign purchases. Totally defeats the purpose of no foreign exchange fees.

Great Credit Card for traveling internationally

I have been using their credit card for about 4 years now. This is not my primary card, and neither should it be yours.

Pros: no foreign exchange transaction fee. I love this. No added fees when you buy something in USD or British pounds...etc. Unlike other credits cards, they will just convert back to CAD using the latest conversion rate. This is why I use their credit card when I travel outside of Canada. Or when I'm shopping online and paying in USD. Sadly, this is their only pros

Cons:

1) Lack customer support. This is a small bank after all.

2) Oversensitive about fraud protection. I called them and told them I will be traveling to China. In China, I tried to buy a train ticket using trip.com. This was flagged as fraudulent and my card was locked. I get that Trip is a UK company and I said I was in China, but it wouldn't be out of the question that I was buying a ticket using a UK company. Not to mention I paid for my plane ticket and hotel while I was in Canada through Trip

3) Card deactivated because I was late on payment. I was late like 2 business days. This was back in 2019. I was in Halifax instead of my hometown. So I didn't get my credit bill in the mail. Nor did I check online for when my credit was due because I was on Holiday. Now I set up email billing notification to remind me when my CC bills are due soon. But it is ridiculous that they stopped my card because I was late for 2 business days.

4) Before I was getting my billing in mail. Often time I would receive it days before it is due. I use online billing now because I have to

5) No mobile phone app. I like to check my bills through mobile app. Biometric logins are so easy. If I check my hometrust billing, I have to go to their website and after a few wrong passwords your account will be locked and you will have to call them. Please make a mobile app. It will make all our lives so much easier. Not to mention if it supports biometric logins, I will never need to rememeber my password again. If you ever do this, I can see this becoming my primary card

As to your email I do remain unsatisfied and do not except this type of behaviour until we receive an apology from Karen pankratz the matter remains far from closed.
1. This has nothing to do with the declined application you and I both know it. This is just a manipulated scheme. You guys are using to cover up your employee Karen’s behavior, but I will address this because you keep bringing it up Karen declined an application that was unfinished and not completed cause she refused to help me ( proof can be provided ) so now I want an investigation to be done on this as well.

2. Karen’s inappropriate unprofessional misconduct has nothing to do with how to provide information to declined applications, if you read the email I sent, you would know why and not just tell me what your associates in crime Karen pankratz, Dave tett, Cristie Smith and Pierre Martin is telling you to say in order to keep covering this up.

3. I will need an apology from Karen in order to close this matter or I’m going to have to escalate the situation. Because you just proved my point I sent that email on August 5 2023 and you didn’t reply until today September 1 2023. Brian is this how you conduct complaints. Proves and shows how you and your staff at home trust mortgage division is inappropriately acting which we will not tolerate or except. Beside this one and only email from you almost 1 month after I sent my email I have received no communication no email saying there gonna look into this matter and get back to us or this complaint will be taken to the proper department for further review and investigation. You brian ji the complaint manager for the underwriting department which I know shouldn’t be handling this complaint due to the fact it has nothing to do with the underwriting of the mortgage but I know the reason there trying to go this avenue through your department and I will not let it happen and as you telling me to take this up with the home trust customer complaints and appeals office I have emailed them multiple time and no reply. So this will not stop until a proper investigation is conducted and we receive an apology from Karen Pankratz and parties involved!

So will wait 3 to 6 months to see how things go but still kind of weary from the reviews so if anything happens will go with CAPTIAL ONE since never had problems with them. After the 3-6 month trial period if any problems occur with the PINS NUMBER OR NON REPORTING TO THE CREDIT BRREAU will start telling people to avoid this company & try to get our security deposit back. If we run into any problem will ask our company that is handling the GF CONSUMER PROPOSAL to help

Tried to apply for a Hometrust Visa, disaster!

Tried to apply for a Hometrust Visa. Have impeccable credit and thought I might give a smaller company some business, since the big banks are , well, too big.

The amount of questions after providing a pay stub, etc to prove my credit worthiness went too far. I cancelled the application this morning. I worry now that people may be intentionally rejecting people by making things intentionally too hard, in order to steal personal information, so watch your credit scores!

Stay clear of Hometrust. Their process clearly is not designed to bring in good clients.

Something is clearly very wrong with their process and I don't recommend others take a chance with their valuable information.

Worst customer service ever

Worst customer service ever. Just cancelled my visa 10 days into my trip. I input the incorrect Pin once and followed it with the correct pin and the transaction was approved. That was the last time it worked. I finally got through to their customer service # (it didn't work first 2 times I tried) and they told me my card was locked and there was nothing they could do about it (really??). I cancelled the card. Premium exchange rate not worth the hassle. Thank God my MasterCard still worked.

Worst company ever

Worst company ever . Been with them for over 10 years . Nothing but crappy interest rates , they take advantage of the self employed people. When people are at 5 percent , these morons charge 9 percent . They want yiu to fail or to sell for all the hard work you put in to pay the high rates . Ridiculous, I’m might be done with home ownership, not worth it .

Avoid!

Long time Home toast customer. Our rate went for 4% to 8%! We called to see if we could get a better rate since we've never missed a payment and got "that's the best we can do". BS.

Horrible company the rates are…

Horrible company the rates are ridiculous. I’ve been with them for 10 years. Never missed a payment consistent of two years. Cleaned up some of my credit not all of it but most of it and I get these ridiculous rates then I get an answer. I’m sorry I can’t do anything else to help you. This is what it is so this is what you have to pay. They won’t help u , consistent payments or not we’ll just keep increasing rates so we can foreclosure house. I swear that is there an end goal

I cut up my Visa card over a year ago

I cut up my Visa card over a year ago. All of a sudden I received a statement showing several thousand in fraudulent charges. I made a number of phone calls to people who had no idea as to the process to resolve this issue they seemed to have shut the card down already but wanted to send me a new one with no info about resolving the fraud itself. Since the card did not physically exist it seems likely it was a hack, a random fraud attempt or someone was given my number in error.

After several calls I was given a fraud line where the fraudulent charges were read to me by a robot to which I agreed I had no knowledge of,

then a person who insisted on reading them to me yet again even after I told her I hadn’t had the card for over a year. I then was told to call yet another number , she had no idea what the process was to resolve the issue.
I phoned the number, was cut off and called again. I explained it again for the fourth time. He told me I should not have cut up my card until my new one arrived, just like you wouldn’t cut up a drivers licence until a new one arrived. No analogy there. I had told all of the people I talked to I do not want another card. But I don’t think they understood.

He said a package will be sent to me within 2 week to resolve the issue , but he didn’t know what that meant. None of the people I talked to listened to anything I said and kept interrupting me as if they had a script and could not vary from it.

In this situation a customer should be able to make one call to a knowledgeable individual who understands the system and processes. This is the worst experience I have had with a bank.
