Honest review
I really wanted to write a five star review. I genuinely did. Unfortunately Slick still has a lot of growing to do.
We moved from Ovatu. Ovatu is not perfect, but it is cheaper, faster and overall more complete than Slick right now. The main reason we switched was the split payment feature, which is genuinely good and useful for self employed stylists or chair renters. However, the are so many improvements that should be done at this price rate.
There is no app, only a browser version that is very slow and often freezes. We are heading into 2026 and the app is still “coming soon” with no timeline.
For a system built by hairdressers for hairdressers, they are missing very basic features for example chair renters cannot view their own client details without also accessing everyone else’s clients, which technically is a serious data protection.
There is no email option at all, only SMS. Messages can take minutes to appear, there are no clear notifications, and you pay credits for every single message at a premium rate. We never had issues with emails using Ovatu, which offered both email and SMS.
Receipts are another big issue. You cannot customise them in any way. No logo, no wording, not even a single sentence. With split payments, receipts should clearly show who did the service and VAT status, but this is not possible. After over a month of asking, the answer is always the same. It will come in the future. No dates, no updates.
The website booking integration doesn’t work despite several attempts with their technical team, meaning clients must use an external booking link from our website.
Promises also seem to change after signing. Migration was meant to be smooth, then suddenly we were told to do it ourselves. Eventually they moved the appointments after complaining but not holidays or days off which caused unnecessary stress and overbooking and again, after complaining this was eventually done.
Training with our “Slick salon manager” felt rushed, with two 1hour calls(1 with the salon owner and 1 with the staff). She kept remind us that we had to be quick as she had to be in other calls, leaving us with so many unanswered questions. In six years with Ovatu we contacted support maybe twice. With Slick, we have already contacted them around 20 times in one month.
There is no partial refund option without contacting support, no built in skin test forms unless you pay extra for external tools, and honestly many other basic features are missing. Everything gets pushed to the suggestions box with no real updates or timeline.
The most frustrating part is that we were were also considering Beu(thei split payments competitors) which already has many of these features. However, we got convinced to switch to Slick as they substantially reduced the fees.
I am leaving this honest review because Slick’s google reviews were a big factor in our decision and they seems to be really proud of them when you are looking to buy the software. At this price point, the software should be far more polished. The idea is good. The execution is not there yet.
