Warning: this company is operating an insurance scam. Having paid for their “insurance”, when the crew damaged an expensive piece of furniture and the physical fabric of my property I felt comfortable that the insurance I’d paid them for would resolve it. I’m now told that it doesn’t cover damage to my property (and Gentleman & A Van couldn’t care less), and not only does it not cover the furniture but Gentleman & A Van’s own insurers say that they have no more right to be handling insurance than I would if I were involved in a motor accident. Advised that my only option is to report the company to the Financial Conduct Authority as a scam.

We had an awful experience with this company on 1st and 2nd August 2022. They charged us £4,288.00 for door to door removal and packing, with additional goods in transit insurance. To detail all the issues, would be an awfully long story, but the edited 'highlights' are that 'the crew' damaged our new build property, which after a delay, Gentleman & A Van's insurance have settled, at a cost of £1,700.00 to repair and redecorate our entire stairwell and halls (three floor property). We have also been reimbursed by Gentleman & A Van in the sum of £1,287.00 for the 15 breakages causes by the 'packing crew'. All breakages had to be reported within 7 days, which is impossible to do when you have a large move, and the insurance is not old for new, so if you want to replace any of the broken items you have to contribute at least 50% of the cost from your own pocket. Gentleman & A Van did refund us £384.00, by way of an apology. I would hate anyone to go through this experience, so please, please use another company. The distress this company caused, during the move and subsequently, can not be compensated for in any insurance claim or reimbursement. There are good removal companies out there, but Gentleman & A Van are not one of them.

I would never recommend. This moving company seemed very nice at the quote stage - professional and responsive. Then on the moving they sent people who seemed to have never moved a house before. Items were broken, scratched, packed without protection, without being labelled, breakables put in the same box as metal pans, furniture put back together incorrectly, nearly every piece of furniture moved damages (chests of drawers scraped, sideboard chipped, bed metal Fram scratched, and each time I pointed out that they shouldn't, for example, lean something metal against the freshly painted wall, they dismissed me and said the insurance would take care of it. I pointed out that I would rather things not be damaged than have to make an insurance claim and then deal with repairing, repairing, replacing, etc, and, worst of all, the insurance didn't cover any of it. If you don't submit your claim within 7 days, they don't cover it. Top add to this, it took 3 weeks to get them to come back to collect boxes, one of the movers (the team leader) was strangely resentful of having to "serve" us as he called it and threatened to walk off the job, and both moving out and moving in days took much longer than they had estimated, I think because they didn't know what they were doing. And they sent the wrong size lorry the first day (too small so the move couldn't be finished in a day). I was so disappointed in this company and would never recommend them or use them again. The only reason I didn't give one star is that the other guys (who weren't the leader) were very nice and polite. But it was a disaster from the first moment they arrived until they left.

(At least one) driver is terrible. Overtook me as we came up to a roundabout with only a tiny space in front because I was 'only' going 5mph over the speed limit forcing me in to a heavy brake, and then tried to undertake someone whilst going around the next roundabout. Definitely wouldn't want my stuff in the back of there. Avoid the driver of the van with reg number AY20 BYP

Friends of mine have recently used this company and things have gone badly wrong. I'll update to see how they sort it out
