Five months for a chain-free purchase, then we pulled out
We instructed Fosters Lowestoft for what should have been a straightforward buy-to-let purchase—no chain, empty property, motivated seller. Five months later, we withdrew, having lost all confidence in their ability to progress the transaction.
The core issue was a drip-feed approach to requests. Rather than providing a comprehensive list of what they needed upfront, documentation requirements arrived piecemeal over months. We'd supply what was asked, hear nothing for weeks, then receive another round of requests. Each time we asked what was still outstanding, the list grew.
Communication was poor throughout. We frequently had to chase for updates ourselves. When the seller's solicitors warned that exchange needed to happen by a certain date, Fosters still couldn't confirm a clear path to completion.
When we raised concerns about the delays, we received a detailed log of every email sent—as if volume of correspondence equals progress. It doesn't. Being "ready to exchange, bar lender's consent" for over a month while additional requirements kept appearing isn't progress.
To their credit, they reduced some fees on the abortive bill. But we'd already invested five months and significant stress into a purchase that never completed.
If you're considering Fosters for anything beyond the most vanilla transaction, I'd suggest getting written confirmation of all requirements upfront before you commit. We wish we had.

When properties that are chain-free, the legal work and work required in terms of compliance are not always as straightforward as it may initially appear. As matters develop, additional requirements can arise which we are obliged to address in order to comply with lender, regulatory and legal obligations. We appreciate that this can feel like a “drip-feed” of requests.
Property transactions can take around 16 - 20 weeks on average nationally, and that timeframes can extend depending on the specific circumstances of a file and the parties involved.
Throughout the transactions we sought to progress matters and also liaised with third parties on your behalf, at no additional charge, to try to move things forward.
We are sorry that our communication did not meet your expectations. The team did respond to your concerns at the time and provided a detailed timeline of actions taken on the file to offer transparency as to the work undertaken and the steps still outstanding.
We fully recognise how disappointing it is when a transaction does not reach completion after significant time and effort. As a gesture of goodwill, and in recognition of your frustrations, we reduced our fees on the abortive bill.

I have been asked to rewrite a review regards Fosters solicitors that advised me that Id only be able to get a community law solicitor to advise me, which is what I was advised. This would be on the phone, please listen to this as it provides evidence. The issues surrounding this are sensitive and id like to take the time to say that I have contacted other solicitors that recommended to me that I seek solicitors from outside the area, which the Law Society has provided me details of. I would never slander or libel and it was basic information given which wasn't correct.
Im glad that you found my review quickly and told me that you were unhappy with my account.
I hope that my solicitors contact you soon to release you of any paperwork and files and this will be the last you hear of me personally. If you would have any concerns regards myself, please let them know. I was advised wrong information which made me feel extremely concerned and that call should be listened to as it caused me a great deal of emotional distress. I did not intentionally harm anyone, giving out advice which is incorrect is not me harming your reputation it is wrong advice which harmed me and made me feel very worried and distressed. My solicitor will give you my details and this is the last communication as often no one called me back as agreed but I do thank the family law for them saving my son welfare and I'm eternally grateful.

Good solicitor for conveyancing work
They helped me through a difficult, on-off, property sale process and were perfectly efficient. Every time there was something for them to do they got on with it nice and quickly which I haven't always found to be the case with property conveyancing in the UK. Reception were always helpful in receiving documents, calling down one or another member of the conveyancing team dealing with my matter if I happened to call by. I can't fault them. And I'm quite good at faulting things, eg the UK conveyancing system or parking in Norwich town centre. But Fosters were fine. No complaints from me and I can happily recommend them to others for property conveyancing work.

Expert help and advice beyond my expectations
I was nervous at my first contact with Fosters involving a car cycle claim.I was reassured taken through the complete process and felt confident regarding costs and the handling of the claim as a cyclist.My claim was handed to a second solicitor to pursue and I received regular updates and advice and was really grateful for referrals to medical teams all covered within the claim. The level of expertise was second to none and as with all these types of claims the work behind the claim was pursued with a genuine desire to achieve the best outcome.The claim took over a year the costs deducted from the successful claim were reasonable given the length of the claim and overall I was entirely happy If I have need for a solicitor in the future I would happily use Fosters.My claim was for an incident in June 24 and settled in Nov 25.
