I’m really disappointed with my experience of First Class Learning in Lewisham. My daughter attended sessions there, and unfortunately the environment did not feel supportive or encouraging for young children.
The tutor came across as quite rude and did not provide the level of guidance or reassurance that children need to build confidence. Instead of feeling supported, my daughter often left feeling discouraged and less confident in her abilities.
What was particularly concerning was the lack of consistent engagement. Communication and attention towards my child seemed to increase only towards the end of the month, which gave the impression that the focus was more on payments than on the child’s learning and development.
A learning environment should nurture confidence, patience, and growth, especially for young learners. Sadly, this was not our experience.
Horrible experience with no learning.
Asima was a pain to be taught by. Constantly moving on to the next topic even though my daughter would not be clear on it at all. Thankfully I made her quit in December 2025. My daughter has her GCSEs coming up in a month time and luckily I moved her to Kumon where she could be taught without feeling dumb when she would not understand. Useless homework that does not help anyone. DO NOT COME HERE.

Jillian was brilliant
Jillian was brilliant. I was torn about what the best approach would be for my son in regards to extra lessons for him, as we had discovered he is neurodivergent. Speaking with Jillian and learning about the approach she had was brilliant. It wasn't forced and was tailored to my son's needs.
He's grown so much in confidence, and his work has been much better, as well as his understanding of the individual tasks at hand. I will be recommending Jillian in the future to anyone who asks.
FCL Blackburn - Dr Samim Isaap
I am a parent of two children who attended tuition with Dr Samim Issap (FCL Blackburn) several years ago.
Nearly four years after the tuition ended, I unexpectedly began receiving demands for payment (2024).
The amount claimed changed repeatedly — initially a higher figure, then another, and eventually settling at £470. Despite requesting clarification and invoices, I was never provided with a clear or consistent breakdown of the alleged debt.
Rather than contacting me to resolve the matter, it was referred directly to a solicitor with over 20 years’ experience. Their pre-action correspondence demanded not only the £470 but also additional legal fees of almost the same amount. As a parent, I found this approach extremely pressurising and wholly disproportionate, particularly given how historic the claim was and the complete lack of supporting evidence.
I defended the claim on the basis that all tuition fees for both of my children had been paid in full and were up to date when tuition ended. I represented myself throughout the process. After 10 months of court proceedings — and despite multiple invitations for Dr Issap (FCL Blackburn) to discontinue the claim — the Court ultimately dismissed the case in its entirety at trial.
This experience highlighted serious issues, including poor communication, inconsistent figures, inadequate record-keeping, and an unnecessarily heavy-handed approach towards families.
If you ever receive debt demands or legal threats for money you do not owe — especially years later — do not panic or feel pressured into paying simply to avoid stress. Keep your records, request evidence, and stand firm. Facts matter, and justice does prevail.
DR SHAMIM PRESTON CENTRE - Extremely Disappointing Experience – Waste of Money
I am extremely unhappy with my experience at this Preston tuition centre and would not recommend it to any parent.
My son attended only three lessons, during which he learned absolutely nothing. It quickly became clear that this tuition was a complete waste of money and did not support my child academically in any meaningful way.
When I informed the centre that I wanted to withdraw my son, I was suddenly told that I would be required to pay an additional full month’s fee. This was never explained to me verbally. I was rushed into signing a contract, told staff were busy with students, and instructed to “just sign and fill in my details.” At no point did any member of staff clearly explain this so-called notice fee. It felt deliberately hidden.
They were very quick to take payment and openly discussed money when signing me up, but somehow failed to mention these “terms” until I tried to leave. That alone says a lot.
What followed was completely unprofessional. I was pressured nonstop to pay, even though I still had a full week left before the payment was due. I was chased through emails and messages for 2–4 hours straight, which felt like harassment rather than professional communication.
Dr Shamim’s behaviour was especially concerning. While claiming she was “with a student and teaching,” she was continuously messaging me during lesson time. This raises serious concerns about how much attention is actually being given to the children. If she had time to argue with me for hours, how focused was she on teaching?
Instead of addressing the issue calmly, she was rude, defensive, and dismissive, repeatedly accusing me of being rude and even saying she felt “threatened,” which was completely untrue. I was simply asking for clarity about charges that were never properly explained.
The centre took a large amount of money, provided almost no educational value, refused to accept any responsibility, and relied on pressure tactics rather than professionalism. There was no accountability, no apology, and no concern for my child’s learning—only money.
This place feels like a money-grabbing operation, not an educational environment. Parents beware: read every word, ask every question, and don’t be rushed—because once they have your money, their attitude changes completely.
literally js don't go to downham
ive been here 1.4 years since Aug 2024 and it's been horrible this place is literally a trauma farm. theres also this one teacher always being condescending and just treating me and my lil sis differently compared to others. all of the other teachers are actually nicer to me and just better in general. At home it's worse im constantly having to stay up rlly late(1 am) and then this same teacher gets mad for my quality/quantity of work being bad. what do you even expect?! I'm so tired of this. And it's so expensive and just a waste of my parents money but they just won't listen to me🤬 I also wait so long just to get my work marked. Overall it's just really bad I wouldn't recommend going here just avoid this one this isn't a fake review by the way it's my real life story but I'm probably going to get ignored
Wonderful tuition services and teaching by Dr Samim
Wonderful tuition services provided by Dr Samim in Bolton. She is so knowledgeable in the industry and has so much experience which you can just see through everything she does with my daughters. They love attending which I found surprising because before that they didn’t seem to gel with any other tutors!
My eldest is now working towards her GCSEs and any areas she is stuck on she asks without nerves and gets all the help and clarification she needs. As a mum, I just know she’s in the safest hands.
My youngest is working towards her 11+ entrance exam and the amount that Dr Samim puts into that programme is second to none. The school she wants to go to is so competitive so early prep for us was a necessity. I’m so grateful I was recommended by my family in Blackburn who also go to her tuition centre there. Worth every second! I’d recommend without any hesitation.

Complaint about First Class Learning Rothley
We first joined during Covid, when the centre was owned by the lovely Debbie. Back then it was well-run, supportive, and genuinely focused on the children. Sadly, since the change of ownership it has gone downhill and slowly become unrecognisable.
The environment now feels disorganised and not at all what it used to be. On top of that, I was spoken to like a piece of rubbish, told what’s good and what isn’t for my daughter, as if my role as her parent didn’t matter. That kind of attitude is unacceptable.
The first five years under Debbie’s ownership were fantastic — my daughter consistently excelled in her exams and was always at the top of her class thanks to the structure and support she received. What was once a brilliant and nurturing place has sadly become a total disappointment. Parents should be respected and supported, not dismissed or belittled.

AVOID THE LEWISHAM BRANCH
The most unprofessional place I have ever seen. Considering they are working with children. I am in shock. The Lewisham first class learning lure you in with these expectations for your child’s learning which seem great. My son went to his first lesson which was an assessment. At the end of the lesson, I was told by the women (Shash) that she didn’t have time to mark it but she will by the next lesson. The following lesson she still didn’t mark it but gave my son homework and said it would be marked. My son came out that lesson telling me all the adults did was shout and he sat waiting to be taught. The following lesson I told Shash he was not returning as I don’t think it’s the right environment for him. Shash then told me if he leaves then his price will go up if he wants to come back. She then told me I had to pay an extra £100 because he was leaving. I was shocked but had family matters to deal with and therefore didn’t have time to reply. To my shock, I was greeted by a text say ‘you need to pay now and I don’t like to be ignored’. I had to remind Shash that I was not a child and she would receive payment when I had it. I would not advice anyone to send their children to the lewisham branch. Terrible
I enrolled my daughter at FCL Preston…
I enrolled my daughter at FCL Preston with Shamim, and if a zero-star rating were possible, I would have given it.
One of the main issues I encountered was with the accuracy of her work. I recently reviewed one of her worksheets and noticed that incorrect answers were marked as correct, accompanied by explanations justifying the wrong answers.
When I brought this to Shamim’s attention, it was dismissed as a "human error." However, for a paid tutoring service, I don’t believe it’s acceptable for such mistakes to occur—especially when it forces parents to double-check the work themselves.
Another ongoing concern was the lack of transparency around payments. Despite multiple requests, I was never provided with any invoices. I was told that the system generates them and will be issued soon, but even after waiting for seven months, I have yet to receive a single one. As a paying customer, I have the right to receive proper documentation, and it’s disappointing that even handwritten receipts were not offered. This is not just a one-off experience. You can ask other parents or students attending the lessons to confirm this.
Lastly, I was told that the person who marked this paper was distracted due to personal reasons. I would expect a responsible employer to provide leave or time off when an employee/ volunteer if she/ he is affected by personal issues.
As I mentioned, I randomly selected a paper from the sessions she attended so far, for review —how could someone claim that the employee was distracted on that "specific teaching day", with certainty , which I find very odd.
Other issue was poor communication, such as not being notified about no lessons on February 22nd—leaving us waiting outside and relying on WhatsApp messages for clarification.
Additionally, we were charged for “two sessions,” although the second session only began in February, even though we had been paying since December. We were told there would be two sessions, but when the second began, we were asked to collect my daughter early from her Saturday class to accommodate the new Sunday session.
Dr Samim @Blackburn , @Preston and @Bolton
The quality of teaching, accessibility of the centre, and level of customer service at FCL are truly outstanding. My children have been attending since 2017; Dr Samim and her exceptionally qualified expansively (internally and externally the centre) team have supported us from 11+ each step of the way to A-levels , and the experience has been nothing short of excellent. Academically, my daughter has developing strong and consistent study habits, and as a mother, I couldn’t be more pleased with the support we’ve received.
As mentioned, the customer service at FCL is exceptional—reliable, professional, and always responsive. They have genuinely exceeded my expectations.
I highly recommend First Class Learning to any parent looking to provide their child with a solid academic foundation . I wholeheartedly believe my children’s educational journey would not be where it is without Dr Samim’s guidance, support and adroit expertise.
Dr Samim is a real pro in all aspects and levels, how you teach my children , crystal clear and and helping them become laser focused I am ecstatic and greatful to have an amazing mentor in our lives 🙏💖
Thank you to the entire team for your continued support and dedication! Overall couldn’t recommend enough !!!! 🙌🏼

Winnersh Branch
Winnersh Branch - Afshan Sohail
I was very disappointed with this company/tutor and removed my daughter after 7 months.
The tutor provided the services in their own home, once per week.
My child was asked to complete works from a book, left to her own devices for short periods at a time and it transpired that the tutor was praying for intermittent periods.
If my child was assigned homework, questions she skipped were not addressed or discussed, neither was the correct answer provided.
Closer to Christmas, we were offered Christmas Eve and Boxing Day as alternatives to our usual day.
As soon as my child explained, she was often praying throughout the tutor time, I pulled her out. I fully understand religion and time for contemplation however it's not appropriate when you should be tutoring my child and checking her work.
I do not recommend First Class Learning - Winnersh. Based from her home on Silverdale Road, Earley.
Unprofessional Experience at First Class Education Centre
This is an updated version of a previous review. I fixed some details since a case was opened against me.
I had a disappointing experience with this tuition company in Preston, whom I put my daughter in for some Year 9 Maths tutoring.
I was assured over the phone that my daughter would be personally taught by the owner, however, she was instead placed with college students whilst the owner taught the younger kids. As a result, my daughter learned nothing from the tuition courses.
Upon signing a paper that describes how the tuition would work, I had admittedly missed the detail that a one-month notice is required if I wanted to take my daughter out of the tuition, which is my own fault. However, there was still a lack of transparency in reiterating this important piece of information to me, and it wasn’t handled well when I eventually did want to take my daughter out, which felt quite unfair and unprofessional.
There was also a £40 assessment fee that was not mentioned initially, and I felt misled. A random person was even sent to my house to deliver a bill, completely unsolicited and unprofessional. Following that, I received threatening emails stating that bailiffs would be involved to recover £90 (plus £75 late fees) for services that were neither attended nor agreed upon.
This whole ordeal was stressful and I wouldn’t recommend this centre to anyone seeking quality education or professional conduct.
Learning improvement but very disappointing management
My daughter has been attending to maths tuition at first class learning for a year and she has made some improvement. However, it is extremely disappointing that they refuse to register with the government tax free scheme that only takes 10 minutes to do and can make the whole difference economically to parents. It is the only child activity that refuses to join the scheme, even after asking them to do it for the last year. Simply unacceptable management.
