Having had them recommended to us we engaged 'Family Law Cafe' to handle my daughters divorce, in particular the financial settlement. Which turned out to be a long and unnecessarily complex process caused by her husbands non compliance with court instructions.

Throughout it all FLC were professional and made sure we were informed at all stages. They listened patiently to all our concerns and guided us through what was relevant, from the start to the court hearing.

As a consequence my daughter and myself left the court feeling satisfied with both the result and the ability for her to have her say as far as the law allowed. Full marks to FLC and their system of a fee decided upon before commencing action. It took away the worry of unknown costs mounting up through a legal journey that most people are unfamiliar with.

Their on line approach works so well, with all the documents available to us at all times, as did the ‘zoom type’ consultations. So much better than innumerable expensive appointments, letters etc. Which we had at the previous solicitors and who appeared to achieve nothing other than sending letters.

Their only remains a small amount of formal paperwork which I am confident they will deal with in a similar professional manner.

From beginning to end using the Family Law Cafe has been a very positive and empowering experience. It has made a very difficult time far more bearable.

I particularly found the fact I could get legal advice without a Solicitor being on record (until the final stage), and communicating with my now ex-husband myself made things simpler, quicker and less combative.

Regular meetings with Almira (Expediter) and Joanna (Barrister) were very useful, and kept the momentum going. The case space really helped me organise all the evidence and paperwork I had to collect and it was very easy to use and communicate through. FLC were always quick to respond to all my many questions. The work they did to put together the Financial Discloser was invaluable.

I would highly recommend their services to anyone who wants to be proactive, supported and advised throughout the divorce process.

After recommendation, sadly the consultation was not a helpful experience. I found Shepsi’s line of questioning very direct and accusatory with personal opinion. He did not capture the points and sensitive history especially regarding safeguarding. I think his position would be better placed to obtain the clients position through a strict line of questioning approved by a legal professional. Allowing him free rein with language was not appropriate on this Occasion. Maybe direct accordingly based on the written context I provided rather than give his ‘personal opinion’ on the context provided. He did not come across professional. He appeared very hyper with his language and forceful and lacked any type of empathy or structure to his questioning. In trying to obtain which direction it needed to be directed it was a simple safeguarding referral and to speak with a solicitor regarding a current child arrangement order. He asked for my partners name and said they had a recent similar case so needed to avoid conflict of interest. Such a shame as heard positive regarding legal advice from someone called ‘Joanna’ . I believe the person I spoke to is a customer service advisor or trained ‘actor’ so I don’t think they should be the front line of consultation especially asking such personal and in depth questions like a robot without any legal expertise. Awful experience. Would not recommend.

Joanna Toch, has been, and is still tirelessly, in good faith, focus on my evidence based narrative, being trauma informed. Joanna appreciates that this is about a family that have experienced trauma. All the correct processes have been adhered to, establishing the truth, with no breaches of processes.
In spite of all of this, unfortunately, my case is still going on due to deliberate mishandling by the other side, misrepresentation of my evidence, including to Judges, etc. We are hoping one day to address this so no other family needs to go through this, being re- traumatized.

I contacted Joanna in 2017 and she guided and represented me in court for my divorce and financial outcome in which I came out rightfully favourable.

So January 2026 another legal matter arose regarding my spousal maintenance, I did not hesitate to reach out to Joanna for her expertise and knowledge in family law.

Highly efficient, understanding and very helpful

Terrible experience. I honestly do not think it could have been worse.

The firm lost every significant point we pursued, all of which were strategies they themselves had advised. Prior I was considering just working with what was proposed but went with their advice to pursue strategies that all failed epically. Throughout the process, I had to constantly identify errors in their documents: wrong years, spelling mistakes, grammar errors, contradictions, old draft versions being used, incorrect drafts being sent to me, and amendments made on outdated documents. I repeatedly asked them to reread their work properly before sending it to me, but the basic mistakes continued.

I became exhausted from effectively having to act as their secretary, proofreader and quality control. Over time, I lost all trust in them.

They also assigned a barrister they had never worked with before, and when concerns became obvious, they took no meaningful accountability and did nothing effective to resolve the situation as it unfolded. Deadlines and procedural issues were not handled properly, and the court’s findings and orders reflected consequences arising from failures by the legal team. Which made me look disorganised, flippant and with disregard.

At the final hearing, they failed to secure the key outcomes we had pursued. The result was that a father who had not seen or financially provided for the child in three years was granted the right to change her surname, and an extremely generous holiday schedule, 56%, among other outcomes. In my view, the result was catastrophic and avoidable.

Afterwards, I was effectively told that the other side had an aggressive barrister, that the barrister they had instructed came from a good chambers, and that we were unlucky. But family court proceedings should not be left to luck. Your family deserves better than that.

What perhaps sums up the lack of awareness is this: I had previously warned them that I was considering writing a review about my terrible experience. I held off. Then I received an automated request from them asking me to leave a review. They had not even recorded, or noticed, that I was an extremely unhappy client.

That same lack of awareness and attention to detail is exactly what I experienced throughout my case, and I believe it contributed to errors and outcomes that had a serious impact on my child and my family.

I would not recommend this firm for a family court matter. Find an alternative.

Thay do whot thay say, when thay say.
And the cost is high but not as much as you can expect from most.

The first most helpful thing about FLC is their Case Space - an online portal for exchange of communications, documents and management of the case. This was way more helpful than emailing back and forth with my previous solicitor who would apply a standard charge of £25 per email before even working on anything that the emails said.

The second most helpful part that I experienced was the FLC putting the documentation together that I required for court. This was done efficiently and was very helpful during my court appearances.

The last most helpful thing that they did for me was to arrange for a barrister to attend my final hearing. This ensured that I was able to get a favourable outcome in the end.
