Fraudulent Website Posing as Vietnam Government Visa Portal — Beware

I recently asked ChatGPT for the official website to apply for a Vietnam e-visa. Unfortunately, it provided me with the wrong link. Instead of directing me to the official government website (evisa. vn. gov), it gave me evisavn . gov — a website that closely imitates and poses as the official Vietnamese government visa portal.

The site looks very convincing. I completed the full application, entered extensive personal information, uploaded a copy of my passport and a personal photo, and paid what they charged as a USD $65 “visa fee” — which is significantly higher than the official government fee.

As I was leaving the site, a pop-up briefly appeared warning that the website might be fraudulent — and then it quickly disappeared. That immediately raised red flags. After investigating, I confirmed that it was not the official government portal.

Whether or not they actually process visas is beside the point — I was not willing to risk waiting to find out. I immediately contacted Apple Card, reported the charge, and changed my virtual card number and security code (a very useful feature). I then went directly to the legitimate government site (evisa.vn.gov) and applied properly, paying the correct USD $25 fee.

Even more concerning: the following day I began receiving official-looking phishing emails — one appearing to be from Facebook and another supposedly from Social Security — attempting to get me to click links and provide additional information. The timing was highly suspicious.

This website is clearly designed to mimic the official government portal and collect sensitive personal data while charging inflated fees.

I was particularly impressed with the prompt processing time; my e-visa was approved and delivered within the promised timeframe. Additionally, the customer support team was responsive and helpful, promptly addressing my inquiries. Overall, evisagov.vn provided a seamless and reliable service, making my travel preparations hassle-free.

Don't use this website for Vietnam visa. Like many others, it is intentionally not clearly stating on its webpage, and deceiving applicants using a name with "gov", and "official", in its url name, while it is a private company and not government. Do not use any company that puts "gov" in its naming and is not government. Unfortunately the government website does not work with some browsers, and/or credit card auth popups, but look somewhere besides this company.

They are simply doing the government application website for you, and not telling you. Even if you immediately request refund after submission, they will not give you a refund. Do not support such scams, and being foreigners first experience with Vietnam and creating a bad reputation. Teach them moderation and consequences for questionable ethics. You will obviously not be satisfied with their business once you know what they do. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
