We stayed at Heacham House in Norfolk and were absolutely disappointed and shocked at the level of cleanliness in the house.
Some of the toilets were not cleaned and neither were the surfaces in the bathrooms.
The sheets in some of the bedrooms had not been changed and had a very stale smell. The beds had hair on the sheets as well. When we complained, we were told that the cleaners would not come back to clean or change the sheets as it was normal to find hair on the sheets!!!
The general areas too were untidy and the floors were dusty and had not been cleaned properly.
We had to do a proper clean up ourselves and changed all the sheets. Luckily, we found new sheets in one of the cupboards.
Very disappointed and we will not be using this company to book our holidays again.

We holidayed in one of English Country Cottages accommodation and were disappointed to find it was hygienically unclean.
Customer services are terrible! Unhelpful when we lodged a complaint about the holiday accommodation afterwards and conveyed a clear message that they could not care less about our experience.

First: the cottage was almost impossible to find since the accommodation signs had been discarded.
Secondly: the cottage description did not match reality. Although the wording used on the English Country Cottage website was strictly true, the accommodation had been portrayed in a far glossier light than was actually the case: e.g. we were supposed to be able to cook a meal: there was ONE pan!
Thirdly: the lodge had recently been re-decorated, but the accommodation lacked many essential items such as a wardrobe in which to hang clothes.
In the event we had to leave early due to our daughter's accident, but a refund was not even considered by the owner. In our view: that was very poor.

Until this year had received a good service. However learned from the property manager that a cottage we had booked for this October had not actually been available since January this year. No communication from ECC. Account still shows booking live. Been trying to speak to someone for 3 days. Get fobbed off with being told the "relocation" team are looking into it. The property manager has herself spoken to them and they said they had spoken to me, which they haven't. No return of phone messages, or emails. They have had £500 of our money for nearly a year and I am unable to try to find another booking until I know that will be refunded.

Due to an unforseen accident I had to contact this company to see whether I could move my holiday to a further date . After a lot of backwards and forwards and much hanging on for the telephone to be answered I managed to secure a different date . I have no problem with the staff that dealt with this. I believe they are doing their best in the constraints they have in working for this company. What I do have a problem with is the mark up they have put on the holiday that I had to cancel. I originally paid £785 for the week. That same week is now advertised at £1369.00 . A mark up of £584.00 . I know some people will be desperate for a break so this holiday will probably will go at this price. I'm pretty appalled at the profit this company is prepared to make in what has been very difficult circumstances for a lot of people .

Appalling company and appalling customer care. I booked a holiday well in advance and paid for it only to find this company had relet my 2 weeks without informing me and without refunding. I only found out because of seeing bad reviews on Facebook and after numerous attempts to contact them managed to contact them on phone when I discovered this information leaving it too late to book elsewhere. They refunded as they had relet at a much higher price. Like others I would advise to avoid this company at all costs.

After a change of plan last year, I advised ECC that someone else would be taking over a booking I had made.
I phoned them and emailed them multiple times and even paid them to amend the booking and they are still chasing me for payment of the balance.
I can’t get rid of them and will definitely never book with them again.

II wanted to discuss our booking with this company as due to the uncertainty surrounding the covid regulations. hung on phone for two hours when I finally got to speak to someone they were very offhand & when I explained the reason the operator was very unsympathetic & told me I couldn't change the booking & my only option was to cancel it & lose half my money. When I asked her to hold for a moment while I consulted my wife regarding this I was cut off forcing me to join the queue again. I have used ECC many times & have always received excellent service but this time it has been absolutely appalling. I will be contacting the owners of the accommodation with whom we have a very good relationship to inform them of this situation. Unfortunately, I may have to use ECC again so that we can book the cottage again if not for that I would not use ECC in the future.

Daylight Robbery.

I booked a cottage for the first week in October, paid a £40 Booking Charge, a holding deposit of £60 and insurance premiums for two adults.

Due to serious health issues I called today and asked to cancel the booking as I will not be capable of traveling any time soon.

I was informed that I would have to pay a further £156 to cancel the holiday for personal reasons.

There was no desire to help or compromise. I just wish I had read the reviews on Trust Pilot before before I booked with them.

Avoid them at all costs.

Efforts to change a booking to another date have simply got nowhere. E-mails ignored. Kept endlessly on hold by "Customer Services". Promise on Twitter to return call not honoured.

Unable to go due to Covid-19 and money now probably lost.

This appears to be a very badly managed company which simple does not care about its customers in these difficult times. I will not be booking with them again.

This is scary. I haven't even had my holiday with English Country Cottages yet and just the mention of their Customer Service makes me cringe. 2 emails, 4 telephone calls with varying duration from 12 mins through to over 1 hour, all unanswered makes me wonder what I have signed up for. This company are the absolute pits! Please read a number of these reviews before you book with ECC, then DON'T book with them!

Terrible service. Wrote by email and by post to complain about our cottage in Cornwall which we rented in August from ECC and included photographic and other evidence. Cut off twice now in telephone conversations with staff and no proper explanation as to whether or how my complaint is being actioned.

By mistake I booked the wrong starting date so I immediately emailed English Country Cottages.
I realised I would have to pay an administration fee. I had no reply except an email to say a reply would be in a couple of days. I sent further emails which were not answered except with the same reply. I also made repeated phone calls to both phone numbers I was given. With some calls I waited over an hour but all calls were not answered. I spoke to the cottage owner who tried to help by making several attempts to call English Country Cottages herself but she also could not get a reply on her owner's direct line. We have rented cottages for over 40 years and have never had a problem with a company. If I had read other bad reviews for the company I would not have booked with them and certainly won't in future.

I have no words to explain how bad this company is!!

I booked accommodation to to stay with my family, I am in Australia, and the holiday in May was cancelled due to covid.
The 4 nights cost over 1200 pounds,
They do not return calls or emails, and if I do ever get through to anyone they just put me back on hold and never answer again.
Scumbags, dont trust them.

Warning do not use this company they will take your money and cancel holiday just days before you go,thank goodness we paid by credit card so eventually we should get money back.The holiday we booked in Suffolk had apparently never been available even though site was and is still showing it as available,this company part of Hoseasons are a disgrace to the travel industry in what are difficult times for all.

Booked a lodge for sisters 65th birthday on 4th september. today got phone call cancelling saying hadnt been open all summer. why take our booking and our money last payment only went out last week.Very disappointing trying to find something else now. Obviously trying to get more money for the lodge as everyone on staycation. would not book with them again. beware. this is happening to quite a few people we understand some with only a few days before they were due to go.

Do not use - this company is a scam.

Booked a 2 night break in August - phone was answered relatively quickly. They took full payment and said they would email confirmation but it never came. Money was taken from my credit card and there was absolutely no way of contacting them again. I waited on the phone for over 2 hours at a time, sent a number of emails and no response to anything!!! Thank goodness for Barclaycard fraud team who managed to get my money back for me.

AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!!!

Terrible - same as so many others! Needed to cancel an 80th birthday party accommodation due to Covid worries. 3 emails and no response, 2 calls for 40 minutes - cut off both times. I then went on Trustpilot and was horrified at the reviews so despite cancelling through the website, I got no confirmation email and felt I should to cancel my bank card to make sure they didn't take payment. What a hassle! So far we've lost £450 deposit and have not been able to find out if we have any other options. I just wouldn't feel secure using this firm ever again.
For note, we booked another holiday we needed to cancel due to Covid through Classic Cottages, and the service and contact was amazing - they get a big thumbs up!
