Not the official UK ETA website — charged £167 for a £20 application
I used e-visas.uk.com to apply for a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), believing it was the official government service. It is not: it is a third-party intermediary.
The official ETA costs £20, but my card was charged £167 (147 €). The site did not make clear that the total included substantial third-party fees.
I contacted the company on the same day to ask for a refund but they refused saying that the application was already sent to the governement for processing and could not be refunded.
After 3 days my application has still not been approved.
I felt misled by how the service and its pricing are presented, and I have since disputed the charge with my bank.
If you need a UK ETA, apply directly through the official GOV.UK website or the official UK ETA app. It is cheaper and you deal with the government directly.
**Title: Misleading UK ETA website — charged $238.84 CAD for a £20 application*
I am extremely disappointed with my experience with e-visas.uk.com.
I was applying for a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for a flight connection and believed I was using the official application service.
The official UK ETA costs only £20, yet my card was charged $238.84 CAD (US$163.54). I did not understand that I was agreeing to such substantial third-party processing fees.
The application was approved, but that does not justify the excessive charges or the lack of pricing transparency I experienced.
I contacted the company requesting reimbursement of the additional fees, but they refused.
I feel misled by the presentation and pricing of this service. Travellers should be aware that this is NOT the official UK government website.
**Save your money and apply directly through the UK gov website instead.**
AVOID THIS WEBSITE AT ALL COSTS
**MISLEADING, EXTREMELY OVERPRICED AND AVOID AT ALL COSTS!**
I ended up using this website by mistake because it appears as a **sponsored result at the very top of Google search results**, making me believe it was the official UK government website. I genuinely thought I was applying for my UK ETA through the official channel.
Only afterwards did I realise that I had been charged **£130 for an application that costs just £20 on the official government website**.
The pricing is outrageously misleading. The total cost was not clearly displayed before payment, and I was not made sufficiently aware of how much I was actually going to be charged. If the full price had been clearly presented, I would never have proceeded with the application.
When I requested a refund, I was refused on the grounds that the process had already started. So apparently, they can charge you an outrageous amount without making the total cost clear, but once they have your money, they refuse to give it back.
The fact that this website appears as a sponsored result above the official government website makes the situation even more frustrating. People searching for a UK ETA can easily mistake it for the official service, as I did. This experience has left me feeling completely misled and ripped off.
**£130 instead of £20. No clear total before payment. No refund.**
I strongly recommend that everyone avoid this website and apply directly through the official UK government website.
Check the website address carefully before paying. Do not make the same mistake I did.
This has been an absolutely appalling experience, and I would never use this company again.
SCAM
Misleading service and refusal to refund
I was charged €146 for a UK ETA through a website that I believed was official. Only afterwards did I realise it was a private third-party service. When I requested a refund, they refused, claiming the application had already been submitted. When verified my ETA through the official UK service I confirmed it has not been submitted. This is plain and simple SCAM.
The pricing and presentation were misleading, customer support has failed to resolve the issue, and I am now left fighting to recover my money. Avoid this website. Apply directly through GOV.UK and don’t make the same mistake I did.
Die Leute werden gescamt
Deceptive Copy Cat Website. Hidden fees and extreme overcharging.
Be warned: this website is a predatory third-party broker designed to mimic the official GOV.UK portal. I used this site believing I was paying the standard official UK ETA fee of £20. Instead, they buried massive, unauthorized "handling fees" in their system and pushed through a shocking charge of $238.84 on my credit card without clearly displaying the total price beforehand.
This is highly deceptive marketing that preys on travellers. Avoid at all costs and use the official UK government website or app instead.
A company you cannot trust. Support you cannot reach.
Based on my experience, this service is deeply unreliable, lacks price transparency and is impossible to reach by phone.
1. Unjustified £99 service fee on top of the £20 government fee.
2. Checkout total is behind a section closed by default (in contradiction to EU-law).
3. No amount beside the payment button.
4. Four applications paid for. Three ETAs received and verified.
5. Son’s ETA first described as approved. Later described as awaiting a decision.
6. Official government checker still finds no ETA for his passport.
7. Requested proof of government submission not provided.
8. Only voicemail when calling. No advertised “24/7 human support” experienced.
9. Generic replies. Direct questions left unanswered.
10. Refund refused.
BE CAREFUL, IT'S A SCAM
They say they charge £20 but then you get charged £122.85 on your card out of nowhere.
The website design is THE SAME as the government one so of course do this on purpose to confuse the customer.
They aren't transparent about their fees ANYWHERE in the website or what they include.
It was only AFTER I emailed them about the payment that they gave me the information of what their HIDDEN fees include.
This is a copy paste of the reply:
"-Government Fee: £20.76
-Processing Fee: £102.09
-Total Amount Paid: £122.85
What the fee covers:
• Two (2) complimentary ETA submissions for future use (e.g., passport renewal or replacement due to loss)
• Approval guarantee: Full reimbursement or assistance if your application is declined
• Confirmation of application receipt
• Thorough application review, including error checks and passport MRZ validation
• Document assistance and support with document submission and information verification
• 24/7 email support with ongoing guidance throughout the application process"
I DIDN'T WANT ANY OF THESE SERVICES. I WASN'T INFORMED THEY WERE EVEN AN OPTION. I WANT MY MONEY BACK.
Scam!
Scam!! You get your ETA but they charge 99£ extra (on top of the 20£ it normally costs) with you noticing it.
Looks like the official website.
Paid 5 times more than we had to.
We got the ETAs we needed, but they charged (in fine print under extra fees) 99GBP extra. Make sure you use the official UK app and save yourself the money.
Verschrikkelijk
Verschrikkelijk, ze hebben 145 euro en de extra 20 pond afgeschreven gebruik de site niet !
WARNING: GOV.UK copycat – charged £122 for a £20 ETA, refuses refunds, ignores data deletion requests
DO NOT USE THIS SITE. It is NOT the UK government.
This site is built to look almost identical to the official GOV.UK ETA service. I believed I was on the government website. It charged me £122 for a UK ETA, which costs £20 on gov.uk eta or the official "UK ETA" app. That's a markup of more than 500% for filling in a form you can do yourself in 10 minutes.
It also made me upload my passport scan and photograph. Your most sensitive identity documents end up with a Wyoming shell company (Compass World LLC / "eVisa UK Org", registered at a mass registered-agent address in Sheridan, WY). It's not the Home Office.
I realised within hours and cancelled in writing. Their response was a copy-paste refusal: "non-refundable". They ignored my formal GDPR request to delete my passport data entirely, and still haven't responded to it.
I DEMAND a full refund and the immediate, confirmed deletion of all my personal data, including my passport image. I've disputed the payment with my card issuer and reported this site to the UK National Cyber Security Centre, Google Safe Browsing and the domain registry.
If you're reading this because you searched "UK ETA": close this tab. Go to gov.uk. Pay £20. Your passport stays with the government, where it belongs.
Please be very careful
I Thought it was the official site to get a UK ETA but it is not . Anyway Instead of pay 20 Uk Pounds i have been charged of 145,36 Euro that is absolutely unacceptable. I asked money back but they refused saying that there are additional services included . Please be very careful this site must be avoided at all
Charge hidden fees
Total scam
Total scam. Professionally designed similar to official site. They charged me 150€ for a 20€ ETA, without any notice. I called a refund literally in minutes but they rejected. Do not use this site, use official one that ends with .gov
Absolute scam
Absolute scam. I apllied for a UK eta and the amount of 20 £ was shown and no additional fees. Without any info they charged by credit card for 145€. This is rediculous. Absolute scam. They shouldn´t practice in "hidden fees" and show the real amount in the application process so you can avoid it. I hope I get my money back through my bank.
