100% recommend deeper africa safaris for an amazing once in a lifetime experience! Our guide (Ammy) was the most knowledgeable, welcoming, funny and kind person ever. He was always excited to be with us, and was always somehow in the right place at the right time for wildlife viewing. From seeing the rare white buffalo, to watching a caracal hunt and kill its prey right in front of us in broad daylight, to finding cheetah cubs early in the morning. Our tented lemala camps were 10/10, with the most scenic locations and most welcoming staff ever. They became friends with us, gave us behind the scenes cooking lessons and helped us practice our Swahili. Can't recommend deeper africa enough as this trip was unforgettable! I hope to return to Africa and Tanzania one day through deeper africa!

Karen was able to prepare us well for our two week safari. We could not have asked for a better guide, Ammy, to spend our two weeks with! Super knowledgable and fun to be around! All five camps provided great food, welcoming staff, and an opportunity for us to learn and practice the basic Swahili we were able to pick up. From seeing a rare, white buffalo in Tarangire to watching a, usually nocturnal, caracal hunt and catch an African hare in the Ngorongoro Crater to a hot air balloon over the great migration in the Serengeti, there truly is nothing like this anywhere else in the world. We hope to be back again soon for our talking/bucket showers!!!

Amazing Mountain Gorilla trekking in Uganda - My family just returned from a fabulous life-changing trip to Uganda for gorilla trekking and chimpanzee trekking! Once again, Deeper Africa guided us through an excellent experience - their local guides are outstanding, knowledgeable and kind, their recommendations for what do to and where to stay are terrific, and we had a magnificent journey. This is our second Deeper Africa experience, having climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and done a gorgeous safari with them a few years ago and they are the best! Can't wait for another trip to Africa with them!

Deeper Africa planned the most wonderful trip to Tanzania for our family. Our guide Albert Nanyaro fit right in with our family and was incredibly knowledgeable with the animals and birds and he made sure all of our needs were met throughout the trip. Everything was well planned out and we stayed at some amazing camps. And seeing the Serengeti migration was a sight that we will never forget. Deeper Africa had great communication with us before the trip to make sure we all had what we needed. They come highly recommneded by us!

From start to finish the staff at Deeper Africa went above and beyond to ensure our safari was the trip we had been dreaming of for years. Karen helped us design the trip based on our interests and Kristi stepped in with the pre-trip information, answered numerous questions, and resolved minor glitches. Albert was an extraordinary guide. A few days on Pemba, per Karen's excellent suggestion, was the icing on the cake. With Deeper Africa we were always in good hands.

We took our second safari with Deeper Africa this year and it was as great as the second. So many animals! Deeper Africa’s attention to detail in planning and executing the trip is stellar. We can’t recommend them enough. It will be the trip of your dreams.

Deeper Africa organized our first trip to Africa and did an amazing job. From organizing our group of 7, informing us what to expect, working with Covid requirements and providing us with top notch accommodations and a wonderful guide, the whole amazing trip went off without a hitch with one exception. I tested positive ( turned out to be a false positive) for our return trip and had to stay a few extra days but we were very fortunate to have Deeper Africa on our side. They worked the accommodations and plan to get us home which actually made our extended stay very enjoyable. We highly recommend Deeper Africa to any and all who wish to experience a trip of a life time. I would like to give a special shout out to Karen, Kristy and our wonderful guide Albert. All wonderful people.

This is the second trip to Africa that we have booked with Deeper Africa. The experience and loggings were amazing. The days are filled with one National Geographic moment after another. One of the most important part of any trip is your guide. Our guide was excellent. From finding every type of animal to take pictures of, to making sure that our travel was safe and comfortable, he was great. We are already talking about our next trip. These are trips of a lifetime. You cannot go wrong with custom planning them with Deeper Africa. They know the best lodges, locations and they have expert guides.

Great, everything went as planned no surprises saw a lot of animals and birds the guides were amazing and the accommodations were wonderful.

This was our fourth trip to Africa, all countries from Tanzania south, and each one just got better as we understood the unique regional character of the plant and animal world. Planning this safari with Deeper Africa took us beyond the world of traditional camp experiences and immersed us in the lives and culture we had so often flown over. Our 15-day camp to camp drive across the Serengeti from Tarangire to the Mara River in the North with Albert Absay, our first-class guide and immediate companion, was all we had hoped for. Additionally, a few days in Zanzibar was a great lesson in centuries of history colorfully and energetically related from Taib Hassan that quenched our particular interest in the world of spice and trade on that side of the world. Now just tinkering on what comes next.

Deeper Africa is the best outfit, I have ever used. They took care of every detail with no exceptions. Karen, her team and our guides went above and beyond to meet all our expectation and more. This was a trip of a lifetime and changed the way I look at the world. Thank-you from the bottom of my heart. I will never forget my trip to Africa!!!!

In short, Deeper Africa was phenomenal. Our trip was a party of 4 going on a 14day adventure safari to Kenya. Deeper Africa's pre-trip planning and preparation covered every detail down to the simplest things such as what clothes to bring, how much to tip for different services, etc.

It is one thing for a travel service to provide awesome pre-trip services but I think a better measure is the assistance a travel service provides when life throws a curve and things have to deviate from plan. Our trip definitely had a few of these.

First, 2 days prior to our departure, one of the people in our party tested positive for Covid. The Deeper Africa team was able to reschedule our entire adventure delaying things by 10 days allowing enough time for Covid recovery. This reschedule was no small feat because we had 4 different camps in 4 different areas of Kenya that had to be juggled around. Not just camps but flights, guides, transport, etc. Amazingly, Deeper Africa was able to accomplish this w/out us having to sacrifice any of our original plans, The dates may have changed, one camp had to change but the "new" camp was in the same area and actually turned out to be better and we still got to do everything we wanted to do. And because of the travel insurance Deeper Africa helped us to secure, the cost of the reschedule was $0.00 which is pretty impressive since the camps require payment in advance and generally will not refund payment if things have to change regardless of reason.

The 2nd challenge occurred when our flight had delayed departure causing us to miss our connecting flight from Qatar to Kenya. The airlines re-booked us on the next available flight but this flight was 5hrs later than originally planned and would have caused us to miss the bush plane flight to our 1st camp. As soon as we landed in Qatar, I called Deeper Africa and informed them of our predicament. They told me to give them some time to see what they could do. An hour later, Deeper Africa called me back and said everything was set. The bush plane company agreed to hold the bush flight until we arrived - this was pretty amazing since there were approx 20 other people on this flight heading to different locations. Furthermore, Deeper Africa arranged for someone to meet us once we landed at Nairobi airport to help us get thru customs, immigration, etc. With the help Deeper Africa arranged, it took us approx 20mins total to get our bags, get thru immigration and clear customs at Nairobi airport - just WOW!!!

The last incident was that the airline lost one of our party's luggage. When we contacted the airline, they said they had no idea where the bag was. So imagine arriving in foreign country and not having all the items you need for safari - a little different than just a beach vacation or tourist trip vacation. Anyway, the Deeper Africa guide that met us in Nairobi told us not to worry and that they would work to recover our luggage. We continued on to our safari camp as planned and 3 days later, our luggage arrived. Deeper Africa not only worked w/ the airline to track / recover the luggage, but they also had it shipped 5hrs+ to the camp where we were staying - now that is service!!

I cannot properly express in print how much we appreciated the services and support Deeper Africa provided. I not a person who shows much emotion but when I discuss our experience w/ people, my eyes light up, speech quickens and I'm visibly excited like a kid at Christmas which are things not visible in this written review.

Incredible, Amazing, Awesome, Phenomenal - Deeper Africa was all this and more.

A very comfortable and rewarding experience. we enjoyed having "our hands held" from the moment we got off the plane up until we left Tanzania. Staff we dealt with were friendly and professional. Our guide John was extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife, where to find them, their behaviors/habits, etc. As an added bonus, he was great company. But more than just escorting us and tracking game John shared much of his personal life giving us more than a glimpse into life of a typical Tanzanian.
The lodges or tent camps were all extremely comfortable - nicer than any hotel room I ever stayed in. Roomy, well equipped, fantastic views. staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough to keep you happy (including bringing fresh hot coffee to our tent at 530 am)
Food was delicious at every stop. One thing for sure, you won't go hungry on a Safari with Deeper Africa. we were fed as if we were on a cruise - even the picnic breakfasts and lunches were more than ample.
only one downside. our first day and last day were spent in Arusha at the Machweo lodge. Pricy but the food was very good, staff were friendly and with good nature tried to teach us Swahili. only problem was dining the last night, we had a flight to catch. staff were aware we absolutely had to leave by 730 pm. unfortunately, our dinner (and an expensive one at that) did not arrive until 725. we were not happy.
The other downside at Machweo was the "call to prayer" that began at 5am and every few hours thereafter. Very loud and disturbed much needed sleep.
Deeper Africa may want to consider a different location for first and last day - perhaps the Coffee Lodge.
Overall a fantastic experience and one I'd gladly do again with Deeper Africa.

We could not have had a better experience with Deeper Africa, and I will recommend them to all of my family and friends who want to plan an African safari in the future!

We had our Tanzania safari planned for October 2020, and navigating through all of the changes and then eventual delays due to covid was as low-stress as I could have asked because of Deeper Africa. Karen and her team communicated with us frequently, keeping us updated on travel restrictions and recommendations, and then when we decided to postpone our trip to 2021, they acted as our advocates in keeping our rates and camps the same. I can't imagine trying to plan all of the details of a safari myself, and then having to go through all of the changes to move everything to the following year - so thank goodness for Deeper Africa.

We also had the most amazing safari guide, Ombeni. I don't think there was a single question we had on safari that he didn't have an answer for - and we asked a LOT of questions! His knowledge and his passion for wildlife was deeply felt and appreciated, and we could also tell by the way the other guides interacted with him that he is well-respected and admired throughout the industry.

Everything about our trip - from the planning, to the adaptations we had to make due to COVID, to the actual experience of our 9-day safari and island extension at Pemba Island - was smooth, easy, and FUN! I can't recommend Deeper Africa enough, and I can't wait to book more trips with them in the future.

My husband and I spoke with many trip providers and settled on Deeper Africa because they provided such helpful information throughout our year of planning. They set us up with fabulous guides in both Tanzania and Rwanda. The daily Safari outings in Tanzania and the treks to see gorillas in Rwanda were unbelievably amazing. Each day was an adventure and we learned so much from our guides, Sultan and Nuuru.

In a word…phenomenal! From the arrangements, to getting us ready and the actual trip. The guides were phenomenal, the accommodations were great and the country was beautiful! A trip of a lifetime! Could not have asked for more!

Deeper Africa ensured that our safari met and exceeded ALL of our expectations - from excellent, personalized customer service to highly professional (and fun) guides like Ombeni and Bernard. They were available for questions and support at any time, made sure that we were highly prepared and felt safe traveling during the pandemic. In addition, they clearly care about their staff and give back in meaningful ways to local communities in Africa. We cannot recommend them highly enough and are already planning our next trip!
