Deeper Africa provided us with professionalism, expert advice and we felt totally cared for throughout our journey. They assisted in helping us choose the right places for us to visit that met all our expectations. Every step of our travel was seamless. Thank you to Karen and all the Deeper Africa staff!

This was an absolutely wonderful trip. I have taken many trips over the years with numerous outfitters and this was among the best. They spent a lot of time talking with us and then putting together a personalized trip. Our guide, John Mndolwa, was fabulous -- great spotter, extremely knowledgeable about birds, animals, landscape, and a lot of fun to be with. Several people we met remarked what a great guide he was when they heard about our unique adventures. I did a lot of research before selecting Deeper Africa, and I am quite confident I made the right choice.

We had a wonderful experience with Karen and Deeper Africa. Their attention to detail was perfect and she put her heart into planning the perfect trip for our family. Karen also met with us and (separately) with our kids to educate us about the trip. She helped us pull off a fun and exciting trip for a group age 10 to age 82! And did it during COVID. Our guides were warm, well educated and fun. 10/10 I would recommend Deeper Africa.

This was my second safari with Deeper Africa, and there’s sincerely no other company I would trust to plan my African adventure. Karen and the Deeper Africa team worked diligently to completely customize a trip that would surpass every expectation, and truly outdid themselves (to say the least!). The camps, the wildlife viewings, the VIP treatment, the surprises–all more special than we ever could've dreamed of. And above all, it was the people that we met that made the trip as meaningful as it was. It was genuinely the trip of a lifetime, and we are forever indebted to Deeper Africa for the unforgettable memories.

Excellent adventures with Deeper Africa!
We booked a several week adventure through South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana through the wonderful folks at DA. The trip was actually supposed to be summer 2020 - but the world shut down... DA helped us roll through the punches and rescheduled everything for summer 2021. Even up to the very last minute Karen was juggling the crazy rules and restrictions due to covid-- and somehow managed to make a trip for 8 with ages from 10 to 82 successful. Great choices of safari camps, guides, trackers -- everything. It was especially good how much time they spent with the two little ones that went with us. They talked about how to behave, what to do and not do, etc. all in a child friendly manner. If I ever have the opportunity to go back, I wouldn't hesitate to go with DA.
Of course it sounds like everything was red-carpet and champagne -- it wasn't... The weather got cold on us (we went in Africa winter and didn't expect that polar vortex to hit South Africa!), some of the camps were a little under prepared (because we were the first guests in MONTHS due to covid), and South Africa and Botswana 100% shut down alcohol sales and service (which makes sundowners for those who imbibe a little less special). But ABSOLUTELY nothing that was under DA's purview was rough around the edges. Bravo!

Three generations of family traveled together on a fantastic journey that included Victoria Falls and a full week of game safaris.Traveling to third world countries during the Covid pandemic was challenging but Deeper Africa carefully guided us through all the hurdles. The game safari guides, trackers and kitchen staff treated us like royalty while we experienced the best of African wildlife including cape buffalo, lions, leopards, cheetah, elephants, zebra and many kinds of herding animals and birds. I highly recommend Deeper Africa if you want to exceed your expectations for African travel!

We will never be able to thank Karen and Deeper Africa enough for making our first trip to Africa such an incredible experience. The camps, the people, and the game viewing were all wonderful, and the last-minute flight and COVID testing hoops we had to jump through were all handled flawlessly by Deeper Africa. We were able to enjoy our time in Botswana and Cape Town without a moment of stress. We can’t wait to plan a return visit!

I could not be more pleased with my experience working with Karen and Deeper Africa. The Deeper Africa associates across Uganda and Zimbabwe were some of the most hospitable, generous, and friendly people I've ever met, and definitely the perfect people to make the trip of a lifetime so wonderful! I would love to travel with Deeper Africa again and would recommend them to anyone hoping to adventure to Africa. Everything was planned to a T, and the trip was full of special, completely unexpected surprises. Again, this was the trip of a lifetime, and I just can't imagine having done it without Deeper Africa!

After our first incredible safari in Tanzania, we knew we had to see more of Africa. And, given their flawless performance the first time, the choice among vendors was clear - a second engagement with Deeper Africa was an easy decision to make. I particularly like Deeper Africa’s flexibility in tailoring safari details to our particular desires — right down to securing a specific romantic “tent” in a camp at our request. (Saruni Samburu calls it “the best view in Africa” and we’re hard pressed to disagree.) Additionally, Karen’s efforts proved invaluable when a Dutch airline decided to cancel our specific return flight due to the pandemic. We were presented with several viable options to address the situation and wound up extending the trip another day.

As for our second safari itself, it fully met our expectations and then some. We have so many indelible memories due to careful planning and, of course, Bernard, our talented and very knowledgeable guide. There is something striking and palpable about approaching a rhino on foot. Or taking your time right at a watering hole to watch several herd of elephant take turns in almost orchestrated fashion. Or having one morning to yield right of way on a camp foot path to an adult giraffe strolling by. Or seeing five leopard (including 2 cubs) in a single day from the comfort of a private vehicle. Or listening to the hippo graze and argue right outside our tent cabin in the night. Or…could go on and on. Suffice it to say, pandemic considerations aside, we are indeed very happy with our return to Africa.

As a long time supporter of a well-known animal sanctuary in Kenya, I began searching for a reputable tour company to plan my Kenyan adventure. I found Deeper Africa's Elephant Walk Safari and began planning. When covid struck, I did not think I would ever be able to go, at least not any time soon as world-wide travel restrictions were keeping people in place. By October 2020, I was really feeling the travel itch and decided to give Deeper Africa a call and at least find out if future travel was possible. Much to my delight, not only was future travel possible, but because no one was really traveling then and Americans could visit Kenya, provided a negative PCR test, Deeper Africa was able to plan my holiday and get me to Africa within weeks of my initial call!

Initially, I was only planning to travel to Kenya for a 8 day safari and then fly to Egypt for a holiday afterwards. Karen at Deeper Africa took care of every single detail for my African journey, even things I had not considered, and left me to plan the Egypt portion of my journey. A week before I was scheduled to fly, my Nile River Cruise was cancelled (thank you, covid) and I reached out to Karen to see if she could extend my safari adventure. With only a week to plan it, she was able to get me onto a flight from Kenya to Tanzania for an additional 8 day safari to the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater! Karen is truly a superstar!

It would take writing a short story to describe just how magical my safari adventure was, but for the purpose of this review, I will just say that not only was my journey the most sacred experience I've had, but I also made lifelong friends with the amazing owners and my guides from Deeper Africa! The best part was that once I stepped off the plane, the red carpet was rolled out for me everywhere I went. All I had to do was show up and enjoy! I never had to think about what I would be doing the next day or what time to leave....my guides did all of this for me. I imagine that this must be what it's like for celebrities or people who have managers to help them plan their daily lives. All I had to do was tell Deeper Africa what experience I wanted, my budget, and Karen planned everything! It was perfect!

I saw every kind of animal, even the ones I didn't expect to see (rhinos, a leopard with a fresh meal) and ones I had never even heard of before! My two guides were experts on everything we saw both in the air and on the ground, as well as the plants and trees, which was just wonderful! They knew where to find those hard-to-spot animals (like a cheetah hiding under some brush to keep cool in the middle of the day). Africa left its imprint on my soul and I am already planning my next African adventure. Of course I will use Deeper Africa to plan it. Thank you for the most memorable adventure!

Deeper Africa put together my first safari: a trip to three regions of Tanzania in December 2019. I was wowed by the individual attention, the selection of camps, the follow-through, and the value. Being in Africa was a magical experience, and I was able to enjoy it more because Karen Zulauf and her staff had taken care of every detail and briefed me so well. They also were a pleasure to deal with. I already am recommending Deeper Africa to friends, and will turn to them again for future safaris.

Karen and staff planned our custom Tanzania safari. To begin with, Karen spent 2 hours on the phone with me asking questions to identify exactly what we wanted before we even determined we would work with Deeper Africa--which is why we chose DA. She asked us thoughtful questions about price, our somewhat middle-class modest budget, time, and comfort levels. She planned the bucket list trip of our dreams within our budget. We were somewhat unique in that one of our family members is in the zoo education field, Master's in Zoology--so it was really important to have guides that really knew what they were doing and could show and explain on a deep level. We had three different guides as we were in the Serengeti, Ruaha, and the Selous. The guides selected by DA were all extremely well-educated and expert at not only finding/spotting but at explaining on a complex level what we were seeing across the ecosystems.

Each person tried to make our trip special, from the beginning, when we were unable to shop in Arusha for gifts the day we arrived due to a late plane. Our driver contacted the Cultural Center and arranged for them to open early just for us so we could shop for souvenirs before we had to catch our bush plane flight.

The camps were all great and exactly what was promised, definitely glamping, and Coastal's bush planes did a great job of getting us around Tanzania. The Nasikia and Asilia properties all worked out well for our family (2 tents) and the staffs in each were attentive to our every need. A special place, a special trip, thanks to DA and Karen Zulauf.

Great staff "on the ground" in Africa too and they all did a great job of keeping track of a serious food allergy and also preferences as to privacy of accommodations, etc.

We just completed our second trip with Deeper Africa, and both trips have been amazing “trips iof a lifetime”. From the beginning of planning the itinerary, accommodations, and activities to having your guide put you on the plane home, Deeper Africa really takes the time to listen and respond to your individual needs. What also sets Deeper Africa apart from other operators, however, is the quality of their guides. Our guides have not only been exceptionally knowledgeable about a broad range of topics but also men filled with heartfelt care for us, their families, and the Africa we were so privileged to see. Our lives have been immeasurably enhanced by viewing the nature of Africa with these men by our side.

We just came back from an amazing 16 day safari trip though southern Africa and everything about the trip was wonderful and exactly what we'd hope to experience. Karen, along with her staff at Deeper Africa, guided us to places that were off the beaten path and, as such, we had such special interactions with staff and witnessed amazing things, undisturbed by other tourists. The pace of the trip and the order of the itinerary were perfect and everyplace was so different. We totally credit Karen for making our trip so successful. Not only were her itinerary choices excellent but Deeper Africa helped us and gave us great advice (packing lists, medication requirements, luggage requirements, cash requirements, etc.) so that we were incredibly prepared throughout the whole trip. All the people with whom we came into contact through Deeper Africa were fabulous. We didn't have to worry about a thing during our trip. Everything was totally smooth and planned for in advance.
This was a very big trip for us. We traveled as a family, my husband, myself and our two adult daughters. We planned and saved for this trip for six years. It was especially important to me that everything was perfect and everyone in the family had the trip of a lifetime. It was and we did!! And, even with such a demanding task as this, Karen succeeded in giving us a trip that was beyond our expectations.
I recommend Deeper Africa to anyone looking to have the trip of a lifetime in Africa. If we're lucky enough to have an opportunity to go back, I would absolutely use Deeper Africa again.

Deeper Africa was an incredibly thoughtful, thorough, and knowledgable resource. Every place that we stayed was PERFECT, and every detail was taken care of. Their staff is helpful and welcoming and was involved in every step of the process. I'm so thankful to them for putting together this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I am an Independant type of traveler. I had a complicated set of objectives and desires for my five week custom safari adventure through Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe. My experience included classic safaris, some in tented camps, some in lodges, driving over 2000km around Namibia, fishing, whitewater rafting, etc. Deeper Africa had great suggestions and solutions. It worked out great. I loved the interactive nature of the planning process, which resulted the trip of a lifetime.
