Great customer service, great fit
Ordered a pair of tailored fit jeans to switch up my style (normally relaxed fit). It was tight, so exchanged following the website process. No hassles and a great fitting pair in less than a week. Measured dimensions are true to spec, unlike other jeans I have that are up to two inches shorter than label. Will definitely buy another pair when it is time.

I'm surprised to hear all the bad reviews. I've ordered 4 pairs of Jeans from dearborn denim recently and I love them. The only issue I've had was a week after buying the first pair the button popped apart, I could have whined and left a crappy review, but that's not me, so I got a pair of pliers and compressed the button back together, Voila! The button has stayed together for the past 9 months. Anyways great jeans, great price, super comfortable, and durable. I beat the shiiiiiit out of my jeans and these ones have taken the abuse.
Face mask fail
Bought one of their Medium size face coverings; found it gapped on both side of the nose so much it rendered it useless for filtration, because it let air in without coming through the fabric. Because it is a no-return item clearly stated on their site (not that I blame them, who'd want used face coverings coming back?), I'm back to blue shop-towel masks for now, using an unbent paperclip as a nose clamp to eliminate by-pass. So much for 'proudly made in America'. Save your money, customers.
I really wanted to like them but the…
I really wanted to like them but the jeans they sent were way too small (even though it's the size I wear in every other brand). Then, when I asked to exchange them I got terrible customer service.
The idea of creating a new company in Michigan is great, but this is not going to work.
Oh, and when I tried to post a review in their website, I couldn't. I guess their high website reviews are because they only post what they want. Dishonest!
Horrible Customer Service
Horrible Customer Service! I will never do business with them again!
The jeans are pretty good
The jeans are pretty good, but one pair I got fell apart and the customer service was absolutely terrible. I will not be buying from them again and it is a shame. I really did like their jeans but if they won't stand behind their product, then I can't continue to buy them.
Inconsistent Sizing.
Nice jeans, however, inconsistent sizing. Ordered 2 pair of the same size and one pair was much smaller. Contacted customer service and offered an exchange. However, which jean was a wrong size? Do you try an exchange on both? Sent back because of this and charged a return fee. Might suggest these jeans if you could try them on in person, but via mail, quality control is inconsistent.
Meh.
I really want to like this company and their jeans, but after buying my first pair, I am just not impressed. I went to the Hyde Park location hoping to find a dark wash 13 oz. pair, but they didn't have my waist size. After feeling the material, I opted for the 10 oz. dark wash instead, thinking that it would be more than serviceable. While I think I would prefer the heavier material, I don't think that would change my overall impression.
After reading reviews commenting about sizing issues, I decided that I would stop by the store rather than risking some of the challenges had encountered with exchanges, etc. I was glad I did, as discovered my size was exactly what I wear in Levi's, even though the Dearborn site suggested a longer inseam. As others have noted, the hemming process was easy and quick. However, the stitching on the hem is somewhat uneven. Though I doubt it's noticeable to others, I am aware of it and it bothers me. The leg opening is also wider than on my favorite pair of Levi's, which I don't like.
When I stopped in the store, I was the only customer. There was one employee working. While she the help she provided was efficient and generally fine, she wasn't especially friendly and didn't seem particularly interested in investing time with me as a customer. I had already made the decision to buy something prior to walking into the store, but my experience in it left me just wanting to make my purchase and leave as quickly as possible.
If I had to compare these to other jeans I'm familiar with, I'd say they look and feel pretty much like Old Navy jeans. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but given all of the glowing online reviews I had read and the amount of money I spent, I was expecting much more. Oh well, I suppose I'll just order another pair of my favorite Levi's.
Wished I could have read the reviews…
Wished I could have read the reviews before purchasing. I can confirm most of what's already said:
horrible returns organization
mislabeled product
bad quality.
don't buy from this company
don't buy from this company. Several of my orders have been shipped with incorrect size or color. Their customer service is easily the worst I have experienced in the internet age. Takes weeks to get any response if they respond at all, no phone number listed and the material is thin. I question long term durability as others have indicated. There are other made in USA options out there that I'll be buying from in the future.
Amazing for a SHORT time
The "pre-shrunk" jeans shrunk after just 2 washes (no dryer) in 2 months. They also bleed onto other clothes, bags, shoes, etc. in the wash and while wearing MUCH more than any other clothes I own. I invested in 3 right off the bat for the good reviews and now I can't wear any of them. Not at all worth the cost.
Do not do business with this company
Do not do business with this company. Submitted 2 orders online. Both either came back wrong size, or wrong style. After it took 2 weeks to arrive each time. Charged me for return delivery. I'm disputing. Terrible company.
BUYER BEWARE
I applaud Dearborn Denim's commitment to (relatively) affordable, fair-trade jeans. But their sizes run small, and their customer service goes back on its promises, making returns impossible.
In October, I ordered two pairs of jeans - a 38 each in Slim Fit and Tailored fit. I'm a size 38 in Levis and other brands across the board. The Dearborn Denim jeans I received were both too tight; they didn't make a higher size in Slim Fit, and I didn't like the color in Tailored, so I emailed in November and requested a refund. The customer service representative replied with this:
"We’re sorry to hear the jeans didn’t work out. Did you want to try a different size or style? We offer free exchanges. If you prefer to return, I’m happy to begin that process for you. Please note that $7 will be deducted from your total refund for return shipping and restocking."
That $7 fee was my first flag, but I agreed, and asked what next steps were for a return.
She THEN emailed me to say "Unfortunately, exchanges and returns must be made within 30 days of delivery. I see your order was delivered November 2nd, which is past our 30 day mark. For more information on this, please see our return policy on our website." She then offered me a free exchange, but as I'd already mentioned, they didn't have a size up and/or denim colors I wanted, so that wouldn't work out.
Seeking to make the best of a bad situation, I then went on their website to see if I could at least exchange for some t-shirts. But *then* I realized that is often the bane of 'high style' apparel shops: They apparently only cater to the very slight of frame. The highest size their t-shirts go is an XL, and I'm an XXL.
I emailed customer service again, explaining my situation: They told me they could process a return, then went back on their word, offering me an exchange instead. There's literally nothing in their store I can wear, but they didn't budge:
"I'm sorry the shirts didn't work out. As stated before, the order is outside our 30 day window, which is a policy in line with many other online retailers and stated on our website. We are unable to make an exception at this time. My apologies..."
The jeans are un-worn, with their original labels intact. I paid over $120 for the two pairs, money that I won't see again. I get that a smaller business can't offer perpetual returns like (say) Macy's, but smaller *also* ought to mean more flexible and understanding, not hiding behind corporatese about processing a very reasonable return that they promised they'd do. I'm highly disappointed; I'd recommend you take your denim business elsewhere.
Being from Chicago
Being from Chicago, I invested a lot into this Chicago company, owning well over 10-15 pairs.
The quality is an issue with these jeans, which I tolerated as being familiar with startups. The main problems are the dye process they use, and irregular stitching.
I recently returned a pair that the dye clearly failed on, which the process of return was fairly difficult. When receiving the replacement pair, the belt loops weren't even attached in places. When I replied back to them with a picture of the broken loops, no response. Sent another email, no response.
For the time being I've stopped buying from them, since I am supporting them, I expect some support when they make a mistake. That hasn't been the case.
Jeans are nothing special and they charge a fee for returns
Ordered these jeans because they were advertised as an incredibly comfortable fit with stretch material. Neither was true and they charge a $7 return fee. Another web entrepreneur start-up wanna be with a fashionable website, mediocre quality and bad customer service.
Just meh. Wouldn't buy again.
I ordered two pairs, one regular bluejean, the other black. The blue pair seems ok, but I had issues while working near a wall once where if I rubbed my knee against the wall, the dye would make streaks on it. Weird. Never had that happen with a pair of jeans before.
The black pair shrunk to such a degree after only a couple washes that they are now unwearable. Dearborn Denim's return policy is such that I doubt they'd refund or replace them since I've worn and washed them a few times now (how I'd know they would react so poorly to washing without washing them I don't know, but ok).
Both pair were purchased at the same time, same size for each. I know materials and cuts vary on stuff like this, but man, that's a REAL big difference between pants that are similar in most ways except color.
The price for these was great, and I wanted to support a US company, but after this experience I don't think I'd order again. Hard to know what you're going to get. Material seems really cheap even if the look is good. If they charged $5 more per pair and had better quality I'd probably change my mind.
Great Fit, less than stellar QC.
I ordered two pair of jeans. I love the fit and comfort. Although they are slim cut and body hugging in places, they don't restrict movement and look fantastic. One of the pair arrived with only one leg hemmed.
I bought two pairs of jeans excited to…
I bought two pairs of jeans excited to try this American made brand. I expected superior construction, high quality denim, and bulletproof integrity and customer service.
I received a pair of blue jeans that were fine. Not life changing but as good as any pair of denim I’ve ever owned.
The black jeans I got came with two unhemmed pant cuffs. Both legs were missing hems so the bottom of the legs were not complete. I didn’t know this until I wore them to work and then bent down to cuff them. When I cuffed them I realized they were not sewn, something impossible to see without having rolled them up as such. Both ankles have flaps of ragged denim hanging out.
When I wrote to have them replaced customer service told me I should mail them back where they would stitch them and send them back to me. What?
You are going to restrich a pair of jean cuffs when clearly something was wrong during the assembly process on this pair? Well what else went wrong? How long should I wait for something to fall off of them? Even if my assumption about the potential process is completely wrong due to the technical process of construction, that is completely irrelevant.
I put my trust in you as a consumer, you sent me faulty products, then put the onus on me to take my time mailing them back, waiting on repair, and waiting on return shipping? Get real.
You send me a new pair of jeans. When they arrive, I throw these junk ones in the same bag and they ship back to your address. If they never show up, you charge me again. When they do show up, we’re done. The replacement shipment comes with a prepaid return label in the bag and includes a tracking number. All of this information is updated and email updates are sent to me, so we both know no one is screwing anyone over.
Instead I was told it was my fault for wearing the jeans and they can’t send me new ones.
Oh, I’m sorry, I tried them on for 15 minutes, hopped in my car, drove to work for 10 minutes, and cuffed them. That’s as much time as a try on in a department store walking around in them.
Thanks? I guess I should have lied? No, you eat the cost of one pair of worthless mistakes and you send a pair out.
Excellence and quality do not apply to facets of an operation they apply to the entire thing, or not at all. Your customer service sucks and the quality of the jeans sucked. I was treated like I was the one at fault for your product being made improperly and then told I had to do the leg work and wait for your mistake to be fixed.
Take the above advice about how to operate better UX for customer service and implement. I won’t even charge you my astronomical rate. This ones free.
Buyer beware- not an internet company you want to buy your jeans from...
Order two pair of jeans months ago- they worked out well. Good fit, good stretch, but definitely the look or quality of better fashion denim.
Just ordered a black and washed pair. Took weeks to get these two jeans - kept getting emails on delays on fabric, washing and make. Honestly I don’t want to hear their production difficulties.
Jeans arrived, black fabric didn’t even look like denim - was at least two inches smaller. Sent back and they charged me $10.00 because the said they had to rewash. I couldn’t even get these jeans on, let alone wear them.
A very deceitful company- no product, no inventory, no consistency, no service- not worth all the wait, hassle and company integrity.
Not Durable, You Get What You Pay For
When you first buy them, you're totally psyched cause they fit great, look great, feel great and it's a great price. However, you get what you pay for and the jeans lack in durability. I have four pairs of Dearborn Denim jeans and the dye on the jeans rubs off on white couches, the jeans very drastically start losing their darker colors with time/wash. Spend a little bit more and get higher quality jeans that will last.
