Ordered a 7 litre Red Dragon. Was not too sure as first time I have ordered a large plant to be delivered. Should not have been worried as it turned up 2 days later in perfect condition. Opened up and you could already smell the sent. Congratulations to the nursery on their packaging also to whoever delivered it.
Sitting outside now and the bees have already started to visit.

I've purchased a few times from Cowell's for houseplants and garden plants. My experiences are from online purchases. The customer service I've received has always been excellent, a couple of times I've bought and then decided to put in a separate order later on (I always decided I want something more or to double up) in that situation I'm always happy to pay the extra postage but each time, I've always had a very nice follow up email to confirm if my additional purchase was correct or in error and then there's an offer to refund the additional postage.
The staff are always so friendly in their communication with me. My plants always arrive well packaged and in a healthy condition.

Absolutely outstanding service from Cowell’s Garden Centre
I genuinely cannot fault Cowell’s Garden Centre — this has been one of the best plant-buying experiences I’ve had, and it’s worth saying that I’ve placed many orders with Cowell’s over time and the service is always consistently excellent.
The plants arrived beautifully packaged: compostable bags, brown paper wrapping, bark mulch on top, and even cling film neatly secured over the pot to retain moisture and protect the plant in transit. Everything was very obviously packed with real care and attention.
The plants themselves were in fabulous condition and noticeably larger than expected, clearly labelled with full identification and care instructions. A lovely touch was the enclosed invoice featuring colour photographs of the plants, which is incredibly helpful and thoughtful.
The box arrived in perfect condition, delivered right way up by DX Express, and only two days after ordering — excellent turnaround.
What really sets Cowell’s apart, though, is their customer service. I’d accidentally ordered the wrong plant, emailed them, and received a reply on a Sunday. The issue was resolved immediately and without hesitation — no fuss, just brilliant service.
To top it all off, there was an information card enclosed with the plants, complete with the name of the person who packed the order and a smiley face — such a simple gesture, but it made the whole experience feel genuinely personal.
Having ordered many times, I can honestly say this level of care and professionalism is not a one-off — it’s how Cowell’s operate every time. They are so far ahead of the opposition in terms of quality, service, sustainability, and attention to detail that it’s not even a close comparison.

Not a true dog friendly business!
I will no longer be supporting Cowell's Garden Centre and express my disappointment regarding an upsetting experience I had during my recent visit to your garden centre. My partner and I are loyal customers. We visit at least twice a month, often more, and regularly spend a significant amount of money with your business. We’ve also attend your workshops and frequently recommend your garden centre to friends and family. Staff members such as Sandra at the checkouts can confirm how regularly we visit with our small white Maltipoo, and until now we have always felt welcomed and valued.
During my visit today, however, I encountered a situation that left me shocked and deeply disappointed. My dog had a small accident near a plant pot. Before I had the chance to properly address it, a member of your staff approached me and spoke in an extremely rude and inappropriate manner. I calmly let her know that her tone was unacceptable. Another colleague who witnessed the interaction later came over and apologised to me for her behaviour, which I appreciated.
Unfortunately, the situation escalated unnecessarily. The staff member who was rude went into the back to speak to the owner, who then came out and immediately demanded that I leave the premises. Despite me explaining that the incident was accidental and that I am a regular customer who supports the business, he refused to listen. He told me he “didn’t care about my custom” and pointed towards the exit, saying he only cared about “the couples at the front,” though I am still unsure who he was referring to.
As I attempted to comply and hand over the full basket of items I intended to purchase, he dismissed me again and stated that it was “not his job” to return the items. He continued pointing toward the exit while telling me to leave. I placed the basket on the floor and exited the premises.
I found the owner’s behaviour unprofessional, unnecessarily hostile, and completely disproportionate to the situation, especially considering your garden centre advertises itself as dog friendly. Accidents can happen even with well-behaved dogs, and I handled the situation responsibly and respectfully. Being spoken to and treated in such a manner was hurtful, embarrassing, and frankly shocking given the strong loyalty we have shown your business for years.
I hope you will take this feedback seriously. No customer, let alone a loyal one, should be treated with disrespect or made to feel unwelcome.
Testing brand new items before sending them out !
Ordered a set of lights , they came quickly however they wrote “tested” on the invoice and yes they were (never said they would do that when I bought them) , seal was broken on the box and the lead had a knot in it, I bought new lights therefore there should have been no testing involved which breaks the seal, this doesn’t seem very professional.

I don't usually do reviews but I must say that this is the best garden center so far. I usually buy online (mosty hebe varieties) and have ordered about 10 times this year if not more. Been there physically twice from Sunderland. Orders are usually processed within 24 hours and I get my plants the next day or day after. Plants are healthy, well cared for and we'll packed.

Great Service From Cowells
I do not tend to write many reviews. I was in two minds whether to order plants online as I have ordered from a few different suppliers in the past and they have either arrived damaged or tiny. Sometimes however to get the plant you are after you just have to bite the bullet and risk it. I ordered three grasses from Cowells, they were shipped out next day after placing the order and they arrived at my home address the following day. Great speed of delivery. They arrived in a large box which was reassuring. When I opened the box you could tell immediately that there had been care taken to package them. I removed the packaging and I could not have asked for better. The plants looked healthy and considering they were grasses there were no leaves even broken. The pots were not cracked or damaged and they were labeled on each pot with information labels also included. So all in all a great experience, I could not be happier. I would definetly order from Cowells online again. Well done Cowells for taking care of my purchase and not just crushing it in a box like some other suppliers seem to do.
Where good customer service really counts..
A plant I ordered was out of stock. (Hardly surprising, as it was so competitively priced).
I immediately received a very nice email from Hollie, who gave me the choice of a refund or another very similar plant of the same species, which I gladly accepted.
The plant was dispatched quickly, beautifully packaged, and received in lovely condition.
