I had to obtain a DBS certificate for an acting job that involved working with children. In my ignorance, I ended up using Clearcheck. It is a complete rip-off. They charge an extortionate fee for providing the same service that you can obtain on GOV.UK for £21.50. They also ask for an ongoing payment of £8 per month if you want to share your certificate with anyone else. GOV.UK provides this service for no extra charge.

The GOV.UK application takes about 20-30 minutes and you will receive your summary certificate online within minutes. The full certificate will then be mailed to you within a matter of days. Do yourself a favour and use this service instead.

SCAM VERY MISLEADING

THEIR WEBPAGE ASKS YOU TO CHOOSE WHICH CERTIFICATE YOU WANT (Once you have already selected that you are an INDIVIDUAL) then doesn’t mention anything again once they have taken your money and your BASIC arrives.

Have requested refund several times and have basically been told it is my fault!
If you want A BASIC DBS- you can get it for £21.50 from DBS via .gov.uk you do NOT need to use Agent.

I am sending email to Ombudsman today and hoping for some accountability and a full refund.

Do not go on this site. I struggled so much with a dbs check and they kept asking for more payment. Eventually got it cancelled but today £8 has been taken from my account and I have tried to cancel but with no success as it does not give you the option.

2 years ago I had to get a DBS check for a job. Since then I've tried to cancel the monthly payment of £8 per month but they keep taking it from. My account. Every time you go on the site you go round in circles untill you sick of entering the details. I seriously thinking of taking them to court.

You can pay for a $39 background check. But based on where the customer might have lived, you could be paying hundreds $$$ more without being asked first.

It's deceptive.

When looking for a DBS, last week, this company came top of the Google search so I thought they would be legitimate??
Started my application for DBS check, initial on the check out was there £25 to pay, they ended up taking £86.50. Then I got an email from them asking me to verify my ID (which I had already done). They suggested a company called Verify Online who would have changed a further fee. I’ve contacted Clearcheck and asked them to cancel my application. I might need to get in touch with my bank to cancel any further charges from this company. All of this takes time and energy which I could do without.
I didn’t know that I could to go to gov.uk for the DBS. It's easy to deal with and cost £25.

Diabolical. Taking money for months after my cancelling and requesting a refund

this company take money from your account without permission. we are currently trying to get them to stop, we have tried multiple times. I am having to call my bank to tell them this is fraud. I would avoid going anywhere near them. what a waste of time and money.

Complete scam artists. This company should be investigated by the serious fraud office. They take unauthorized payments from your account. I will be making an official complain to the official fraud office.

I had to give 1 star to enable me to write this. Avoid. Scammers . Says £15, but when you pay the screen freezes or disappears. I was charged £101.50, and they proceeded to take another £101.50. All they give you is a reference number. NO reply to emails. They now have all my ID, scammed me, bank aren’t being very helpful, as they say I authorised payment, but I didn’t authorise over £200. Absolute scam. Use Gov.UK legit DBS, you get receipt, digital & paper DBS, phone number to call if any issues, checked at post office with all legit paperwork (if you don’t own a passport or driving license) I’ve always used Gov.UK, but needed a DBS quick & thought this was a legit company. I was WRONG. I’ve seen many people saying they also take a further £8 a month subscription???? I’m hoping my bank actually does something. As it’s NOT a debit card dispute, it IS FRAUD.

Do not use Clearcheck for your background checks. This company has deceptive and misleading business practices.

In September 2024, they offered a background check online for the clear price of $39.99. No where during the process are you told that there will be an additional $98 for the county criminal record search. In fact, it looks like it is included in the $39.99. The information about this surcharge is 7 clicks in, and never shown in the total before you pay on your credit card. you will only see the $39.99. You will see the $39.99 PLUS the $98 when you receive your invoice.

A woman named Mariana who has the worst job on earth will reply that there was a disclosure, and will even show you the ridiculous number of buried clicks that you need to reach that $98 amount that they just charge you without confirmation.

BE CAREFUL DO NOT USE CLEARCHECK. DECEPTIVE. YOU WILL BE CHARGED 3x what you expected to pay.

Last month, looking for DBS this company came on the top search. Started my application for DBS check, initial on the check out was there £25 to pay, they ended up taking in total £135 in different transactions. I realised that in less than 24 hours, I then decided to cancel my application and report to my bank that I don't recognise these transactions. After few weeks the bank had all evidence and reimburse me back. AVOID, THESE COMPANY IS NOT SERIOUS. After that I've been instructed to go to gov.uk for the DBS. It's easy to deal with and cost £25.

My partner has been scammed she believed she had a £15 payment taken. Have since found out this was £86.50. Use .gov site can get the same service for under £25. Yet again a third party overpriced service for something that is a lot cheaper and no avenue to contact. Shameful company.

Clear Check are scammers! They took £ 83 May 2024 for a DBS check and then £8 per month handling fee until I noticed! Emails are returning “ undeliverable’ and when you call the number you are cut off! They appear to be legitimate- hence using Gov. Uk on website. Steer clear from this scam! I contacted DBS ( whose advisor had recommended them) and they said they were nothing to do with them and were unable to help me.

I was supposed to be charged £8.99, but instead, I was charged £101.50. Later, they charged me an additional £15 after sending me another link.

Clear check Ltd is a total scam. Run away from them.
They divert the Phisical verification that is never going to accept your picture and it will count as failed recognition. Total scam.
Vverify works well if you need a fast dbs

Unfortunately didn’t read the reviews I have been robbed this site is a disgusting. I requested a refund soon as I realised they were no good. Got a refund of £27.50 when I paid £93.50.
I will be going to action fraud as they site needs to be stopped scamming people

Please keep WELL AWAY from this site. They store your card details, and continue to take small amounts of monies from your account, and even after you contact the bank, the bank can only put a block on further monies being taken for 13 months.

BEWARE

SCAM site. They charge you a small fortune £83 to gain a DBS then the website doesn't allow you to get any further, you then are directed to another site to get verified £15 that again doesn't allow you to complete the form. Their phone number looks like the one for the GOV.COM but is a bot
