After a recent firmware update, both cameras we utilize under the premium service went down. Was able to activate one but after several emails back and forth the company would not support the camera that was no longer working due to their update unless we provided proof of purchase which was not available. To make matters worse they refused to credit the premium service that has 10 more months left on.
Stay away from this product and company. Went from free online storage to pay for after purchase and then won't even replace a camera under premium service after they made it go down.

I have used the Canary solution for a number of years, and was satisfied with it. It did what I wanted with only a one-time payment for the camera. The free subscription was perfect for my needs. However, over the last couple of years several features has been moved from the free service to the subscription service. This is something other security systems has done as well so this alone does not warrant a one star, the free version was still usable although quite more limited than it once was and I understand that the costs of the service must be covered- but Canary then had the temerity to add full screen, unskippable ads to their app a few months ago, which they have shown more and more often lately - unless you pay for premium of course. The app is more or less completely unusable now. Unless you want to fork out for premium, stay away from this adware.

We have used Canary for years but made the decision to switch to Ring. Our Canary internet connection was very bad and often lost connection when we were out, which made the product totally useless. No other products in the house behaved in this way which leads me to suspect it is a product issue and not an Internet issue. We did not find solution with troubleshooting and kept ending at square 1. I do not recommend Canary to anyone, especially with the recent changes in fees

Also changing system bought canary system not long after they launched. Very little info provided by them now and keeps losing connection and have to reset each camera. Not much good when you’re away and cameras not working. Can’t see canary surviving long at this rate.

I have been using canary cameras for 8 years now and have over 20 cameras at several location. The support has never been great but the service used to be. Now without the new per camera Premium service the cameras are useless. Getting someone on the phone is impossible. It’s asham, this company started out on the right track but has lost its way. Very few product updates in years but the service fees have skyrocketed.

I stopped my subscription with canary as I was fed up of the cameras taking so long to go on line once I’d had an alert that if someone was at my door they’d normally gone by the time I was able to view it. Also quite a few missed movement where people came to the door, drove into the yard and the cameras didn’t respond to them.
I’ve been just using the basic service since but as of today the most ridiculous change. You get an alert to say someone is at the door, you only get to view it live but now before you can view live you have to watch a loud and ridiculous games advert video that takes so long that by the time you get to view anyone has gone. This renders them absolutely useless. Taking them out now and they will be your biggest waste of money buying the cameras as they are no longer fit for purpose, absolutely every other camera system is now more fit for purpose.
Now successfully have more traditional cctv and other smart cctv method. Loads more efficient and so far much better customer support in the Uk.

Bought the camera used (which is actually really good hardware).
But it is totally worthless due to the subscriptions and the app is littered with commercials, it could drive anyone crazy.
I´m lucky that i´ve read all the comments here so i didn´t do the mistake to buy a subscription.....
THe camera is going to the bin and i´ll change to another brand.
Beware, DO NOT BUY THIS!!

I have used canary for many years and by and large have been happy with the experience. However recent changes to the basic free service have meant that the cameras are almost useless unless you subscribe to the Premium Service which is expensive. They charge you on a per camera basis. So, I’m changing my provider and have just ordered the Eufy system which has local video storage. I’m sorry Canary has lost its way.

Used to be good but they have taken away the ability to view recorded clips and the ads make me feel like I downloaded a cheap app. Arlo is much better

I'm giving two stars only because the technology itself is decent. But the customer service experience is very frustrating. It's difficult to access and manage your account, you have to pay per camera for subscription, changes to the subscription require you to cancel everything and start over (or call customer service --- which -- good luck if you get ahold of them). I kept them for years only because I didn't want to invest in other cameras. Finally made the switch to another provider.

This company has a good idea 10 years ago now they have hit the bottom of the pond . After being a Member over a year I discover while on vacation my device was not sending push notifications to my phone after building maintenance came in while I was gone told canary to stop charging me for services until resolved they would email me every few days with stupid troubleshoootng fixes like making sure it’s plugged in a outlet really ?? They charged me a third time and i said.no i want a refund for at least one month they refused and went back to asking me to download a third party app and I refused . I feel scammed and cancelled the services do not charge
Me again or it’s Fraud total scam company desperate to stay afloat

Deceptive practices. Billed account prior to contract expiring and I guess I get that but I canceled on renewal date and they refuse to refund my annual payment. I asked for a copy of contract indicating cancellation has to be PRIOR to renewal and they ceased communication with me. Filed complaint with BBB and they tried to sell me more services as response. I refused their offer and again asked for copy of contract showing cancellation policy and again they ceased communication with me and now BBB. Cameras are not good quality and have less features/functions than competitors cameras. My advice find something better.

Now we are being bombarded by adds with this camera and even more features taken away. Adds open and take over your phone even when you don't click on them. You don't even get a 10 sec video of the motion detected anymore. I bought this camera 5 years ago when there wasn't a premium service, you just bought the camera and everything worked. Iv payed for premium service for the last year because nothing works unless you don't. Now your rammed with adds, no way! Over the years it's got more and more scammy. We just ditched this parasite of a camera, new Eufy on its way

Awful. Bad. Terrible. Stay away. Camera is expensive. They eliminate features all the time. Now I get a 10 second full screen ad congratulating me that I get to see ads any time I try to view my camera. Amazon sells 100s of cameras for $50 that blow this one out of the water and have free features forever. Please collapse as a company already so I can not feel bad about finally throwing this piece of junk away.

Scam! Sells expensive camera - then removes all functionality to sell subscription at ridiculous price.
Someone should take them to court.
Also, all their answers are meaningless copy-paste.
Best advice: Report the app to Apple to shut down this scam (go to the app store, scroll all the way down and select “report a problem”).
Answer to their copy-paste answer:
1. Talk feature is useless when ads prevent you from even accessing the camera!
2. You are out of line with competitors. I have now switched to Eufycam which works much better in every respect - and requires no subscription at all.
3. My useless Canary cam is going to the trash.

I bought this expensive camera first time in America. So far I was paying a huge amount per year ( 120€) so good.
I came to Germany and I decided to purchase more 5. More than €1.000.
Last year, after years paying €120,00 a year, I decided to not pay anymore. The service got worse and worse.
Right now I have:
- minutes of publicity to enter on the app. Like games, etc..
- the cameras does not connect anymore. Just do not appear the video. Only connecting.
- the customer service is a disaster. I have 2 cameras not working and they did not help with.
Advise? Never buy from this company. There are so many options without a fee and delivering a very good service. I lost my money I am advising you to not lose yours.
