First, I’m a gym obsessed, results driven, and weightlifting running woman. I have been consistently working out for the past 9 years and transformed my body from naturally thin to strong and curvaceous.

Second, last year I got diagnosed with a severe lactose intolerance allergy. Fun fact, I workout and have had my own fitness company for 9 years so I got used to enjoying whey protein powder and seeing the results of all my hard work pay off.

Protein powder and whey in particular was my favorite! I have a cabinet stacked with UNICO Cupcake Batter, and Iso 100, etc. after my lactose intolerance, i couldn’t have any of them…. All of that money was wasted. And I became a bit frustrated. Then there was a desperation to find a vegan option….

My stomach and my workouts weren’t digging up on the vegan options either. Why? Because most vegan and whey protein powders are developed in facilities that also process milk, eggs and wheat. (I also have allergies to gluten, rice, soy, olive oil)!

Then here comes California Performance Co! I was really …. REALLY scared to try it. When I have lactose, my whole body umm… we’ll just leave it at, it’s not just a restroom issue…. More like, it inflames my stomach and body so bad that I can’t do much of anything for a week until ny stomach stops making me look like I’m 9 months pregnant. ( I usually have a 6 pack).

So I am SO APPRECIATIVE of California Performance Co. It not only gave me the usual flavor and mixing so well and easily into water! My favorite is Vanilla Sundae! The chocolate and mixed berry are okay.

Here’s things I like about This protein powder 💪🙂

1). I can actually have it without going to the hospital. ( keep in mind this is my opinion, please consult a doctor if you have dietary restrictions, be careful)

2). Vanilla Sundae is light, sweet. And not too sweet and mixes well into water or almond milk.

3). It is so much better for our environment.

4). It’s a fantastic protein powder that still helps maintain my muscles and my toned physique.

Things I think the company can improve on.

1). A bigger container. This one Pound bag is cute. BUT, I used to get giant containers of whey protein for the same cost and or up too $20.00 more. I would love an option for people like me that use this every day.And are avid daily gym goers ( I use two scoops).

2). Speaking of scoops. There is never a scoop added into the bags when I open them. ( makes sense for possibly weighing the protein powders) but no scoop? It’s just kinda silly to me.

3). Shipping. (this obviously is not the manufacturer issue) there has been several times that it takes about two weeks to get this protein powder. When that happens, it forces me to use less protein powder. Why don’t I just buy more? Because I am on a very tight budget.
(also and currently in Law School, so that full time and work? It’s a tad bit hard).

4). Accessibility.
It would be great to have this sold in Scheel’s, WholeFoods, Harmons, Safeway etc. it just would be nice to have it a bit more accessible.

Overall! I love this protein powder and it is beyond wonderful to have something that actually works for my body, makes me feel recovered and more toned. Is light and tasty, and mixes so well. Thank you for whom ever thought this idea up and followed through! You have a forever customer!

Tbh, nit my fave. The flavor profile was sweet. I’d liken it to cake batter. But not sugar sweet. Artificial flavor sweet. And it made me feel nauseous after I finished it. I got 6 samples, the one was plenty. Also I realized whey is whey, wether it’s lab grown or cow grown. So I should’ve anticipated the tummy upset, but I was hopeful.

Unfortunately, I felt pretty disappointed. I'm allergic to pea protein powders, so I tried both the vanilla sundae and chocolate flavors. They both tasted overwhelmingly artificial. I would rather they just use regular sugar if they want to sweeten the product this much. It's like a diet soda version of a protein shake. Otherwise, the vanilla is good and it dissolves better than any other protein powder I've had. I would absolutely buy more if it tasted better, but considering the price, it's not worth it in my opinion.

I ordered your vegan whey products because I am a vegan. I was drinking my second whey protein shake Sunday night and decided to read the label. I saw in tiny (albeit bold) letters that your vegan whey protein contains milk products. I spit out the drink in my mouth and poured the rest down the drain. I think you should be much clearer in your advertising and in font size and placement of the warning that your products contain dairy milk.

Best tasting vegan protein powder, I have found nothing else that comes close and I will be reordering. Thank you 😊

Been close to 2 weeks and haven’t seen it yet so not sure why you’d ask me how it’s been.

Vegan protein powders always give me a major stomach ache and make me feel extremely nauseated. Having eaten two servings per day for three weeks, I can safely say California Performance protein does not cause digestive problems at all. That's the positive. The negative is that the flavors added to the protein are too sugary and too salty. Chocolate is bland and sugary. Vanilla is too sugary, even cloying. Berry has no sugar, but is very acidic. I wish the company would sell a plain powder with no flavor added. I am perfectly capable of adding the flavors I like. The other negative, is the cost. At about 8 cents per gram of protein, it is 4 times the cost of pea protein powder. I'd be willing to pay the additional cost if they offered one without a flavor.

The flavor is good. I like the sweetness, but I would prefer it a little less salty. The powder mixes well.

BUT there’s HUGE problem with the nutrition label. It says one serving is 2 tablespoons, or 32 g. But 32 g actually measures out at 1/3 cup. If people follow the serving size they will only get 8 g of protein or so. We ordered three bags, and two of them are incorrect, while one of them has the correct measurement and comes with a scoop. Hopefully the company has fixed the problem, but they should put a new label on any of the incorrect bags.

Good vegan protein shake that tastes good.

The product you’re advertising as vegan isn’t actually vegan. It’s called “vegan whey”, but it’s not Vegan if it has milk in it. Straight up dairy milk in a supposedly vegan protein powder.

No after taste, no gas, no bloating, no aching or uncomfortableness at all. Perfect in every way. Vegan and loving this.

Love this company and the idea of vegan whey protein. I am vegan for ethical reasons but vegan (non-whey) protein powders can be gritty and not tasty. The chocolate and vanilla flavors are SO delicious! They dissolve super smoothly into water and are really easy to drink. However the mixed berry flavor is awful and tastes like cherry cough syrup. If you tried the mixed berry flavor and didn't like it, I would really recommend trying the other flavors.

I only wish they came in bulk sizes because 15 servings is not too many servings especially if you are really trying to lead an active lifestyle.

I was really excited to try a non animal sourced whey protein but this one missed the mark. The flavors were not that enjoyable and the product is quite expensive especially for the small amount in the bag. I tried the vanilla, berry & chocolate but didn’t really love any of them, although the vanilla was the best amongst the 3. This product could be great with some better flavors and cheaper price point.

The product is well presented. Great packaging! Most important, as a vegan, great taste!! No animal was harmed in the making. Love it

This powder is amazing. Normally whey protein upsets my stomach and causes me to lose my appetite. This powder just left me feeling calm and satiated. I just wish there was an unsweetened version.

The potential is there! You guys have done the work and this product is top of the line, an absolute game changer! Revolutionary! I love the science behind this product!

This stuff is just as, if not more, water soluble than the animal derived whey I used to purchase years ago. Taste is great, smooth. Better tasting than any other vegan protein that I've tried... but I have a few suggestions for the product.

1. I don't care about taste, so I think there should be an unflavored option available. I'm consuming this product for nutrition, not pleasure. I'm not sipping on this for a half hour. I put the powder in the water, shake it up, and drink it all within a minute. I'm interested in this supplement for sports nutrition.

2. If there isn't going to be an unflavored option, I'd rather have real sugar than have stevia. The previous company I bought naturally flavored whey from originally had 4 grams of sucrose in a serving size. Eventually the formula changed, reducing to two grams of sucrose and adding stevia. Ever since they started adding stevia, my digestibility of their product went out the door. For the price I'm paying, I don't expect this product to cause any intestinal distress. Which leads me to my next point.

3. Get all of the gums and fillers out of there. I don't think there needs to be three gums, and sunflower oil creamer in there. All of these unnecessary additives are ruining the potential of the product. I'm trying to facilitate my best exercise recovery possible using this product. Fill that volume with additional protein, sugar, or enzymes. I noticed that there's erythritol in the mixed berry flavor, and for that reason I will not be trying that flavor. Useless additives make this is less appealing to people who struggle with a history of digestive issues

4. Price. I completely understand that it is not easy to produce this product, and a lot of work was put into its development. I'm not saying that you guys need to lower the price, but at least allow customers to buy the product in a larger size for a better deal. Paying $30 for 15 servings is going to put a ridiculous dent in my wallet since I'm having at least one serving daily.

Bottom line: I want to buy it again, but I need to see improvements to the purity of this product to keep paying at the price that it sells for. I'm here for the protein.

Please don't take offense to anything written here. I wrote these things based off of my honest opinion, because I want this company to succeed. Thus, I hope you take my suggestions into consideration.

Nice to be able to have Whey again!

It doesn't blend as well as plant protein, but that might just be how it is. I've forgotten, because I haven't had whey protein in years. It tastes pretty decent. Either way, it's nice to have the option again!

The product wasn’t tor me. I’m lactose intolerant and thought I could try it and be safe, but it didn’t.

As the other reviews have said, this is probably one of, if not the, most smooth vegan protein powders you can buy. If you can stomach the cost, it's the best vegan protein powder on the market in my opinion. Though personally, I am allergic to a lot of vegan protein powders (soy and pea) so I think I may be a bit biased.

Vanilla is the best flavor out of the three. Chocolate is ok and Mixed Berry is truly horrendous. I could barely bring myself to finish the first bottle I mixed and I never made any more of it. None of the flavors were that great though: it's still protein powder of course.
