The real Bunzl and how English nepo roots show
Having worked for a private company Bunzl acquired, I see issues that concern mend they come back to their English roots with monarchy level nepotism. Just a few examples, but suffice it to say that working for Bunzl is nothing less than un-engaging frustration.
Bunzl senior execs Insisted on Promotion of Kristina to VP of sales when GM and CFO turned her resume down for lack of experience or even decent academic credentials. With Customer Service under her she promoted Kim, a soon to be sister law, to handle the largest and most profitable account. When Kim screwed up Kristina’s excuse was “she’s new”. Sales people complain they get no support from Kristina. At trade shows she shows up but not at the company booth - she’s off shopping and playing. Then the Accounting department figures it out. She’s engaged to Thomas Driscoll who family business Driscolls Berries buys hundreds of millions of berry containers and liners from Bunzl Agri, so Kristina needed a job. Oh, before this she was working for a Bunzl unit that made boxes before it folded and went under. Not kidding. Now sister in law Kim is causing mistakes and errors for customers but protected by Kristina.
Jasper who was head of regional warehouses was a former truck driver for Bunzl and VERY to US senior exec Dan. Had many personal conversations with Dan and employees put two and two together; son in law. Yes, more English style nepotism. Jasper could and did break all sorts of company travel policies like renting expensive European cars on his travel visits in the US. Nice, but dumb as a rock and made bad decisions without consulting warehouse managers. Favorite: mandated trashing of pile of empty IT equipment boxes being held for 30 days in case of need to return new equipment. Could not return defective $8k power backup since packaging tossed. Thanks Scott Jasper! Jasper wanted company van sold and suggested sale at low price to a friend for the friends business. Wow.
In the US, they sent over a chap Dale from the UK to learn the US businesses that make up 60%+ of total revenue. Dale was getting his MBA in the US and working. He claimed his emphasis was manufacturing, yet he never asked one question to show any level of understanding. Refused to absorb concept of contribution margin, never asked about key issues like unabsorbed labor or overhead. Then, MBA completed, they whisked him away and promoted to a more senior position in the UK. Whose relative is he?
