Hotel/Nile Cruise on King of Egypt. I booked an Egyptian hotel/Nile Cruise…
I booked an Egyptian hotel/Nile Cruise with Broadway Travel. The staff were so helpful with the booking, especially with helping me sort out and print the right details for boarding the plane etc. I was very grateful. The first week of our hotel stay we mainly rested, with a couple of trips. The hotel was The Royal in Hurghada. The hotel was pleasant inside and had its own pools and beach area. Staff were friendly. We had a fantastic waiter. The food was disappointing but edible. Water supplied to the room and a fridge. Then onto the cruise. Before the holiday we had to change the boat as it was not now sailing. Eventually we were booked on MS Sultan. When we reached the boats we were informed leaving the coach that the Sultan was not in use and we had been “upgraded” to the King of Egypt. We were appalled with the boat as a whole. It was so tired and dated. Ugly, dark and uncomfortable, not a place to relax. First few days we enjoyed the variety of the food but as others joined the boat it became staler and less choice. There was such a poor variety of drinks. I existed on beer and red wind at dinner. After trying an undrinkable cocktail we stuck to beer. We were the only 2 English people among Egyptian and Japanese(?) people and felt socially isolated. There was no tv signal, no WiFi, no kettle, our bathroom was disgusting and I couldn’t flush the toilet as not strong enough to push down the pipe, which gushed water when pushed. Trickle of water in the shower, so rinsing took ages, although was always hot. The bath looked absolutely filthy. It was clean but so stained. Sink looked about to fall off the wall. Grouting a mess and brown stained. Cabin dark and couldn’t open a window. The bottom sheet on the bed wasn’t big enough to tuck in, so rucked up easily. One day the quilt was pulled up and pillows plumped but the bed hadn’t been made under the quilt. The pillows were like rock. To make matters worse we then passed through one of the boats to get to ours and it was the MS Sultan, that we should have been on. It looked really nice. The sun decks we were moored beside all looked much nicer too, clean bright loungers, plants, umbrellas, nicer flooring. So how did we end up on this thing??? I’ve never been so homesick. The staff spoke very poor English and nothing seemed worth pursuing. We had booked trips in advance and had the most excellent guide, Zak. He was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond. He managed to get us on all inclusive, instead of full board because of our dissatisfaction and helped with changing money and getting me an international SIM card so that I could use my phone and stay in touch with family. I fully recommend the trips but after accommodation like this I will not recommend that anyone else books a holiday like this unless they are guaranteed a decent boat.
